He should have saved the last one and Aguero's penalty would have been saved by a goalkeeper with greater reach. If Krul had been in goal it could have been a different story.

The Dutch subs were Janmaat for Martins-Indi (on a yellow card, looked likely to go at any time), Clasie for De Jong (back from injury, probably not 100%) and Hunterlaar for RVP (back from injury, looked fucked).

Not sure what else he could do with those to get Krul on. Cillessen had a decent game as well again, I thought, which is probably why Krul doesn't just get picked from the start.

I don't understand why LvG just didn't start with Krul from the beginning, particularly if he knew he was going to play two half fit players to begin with and there being a chance of penalties.

Knowing that the team that shoots first wins 60% of the time, starting the shoot-out with Vlaar is absolutely indefensible. Great way to completely negate the advantage. Huntelaar should have gone first.

And honestly, neither team in this semi-final deserved to play in the final. Argentina have been shite since the start of the tournament and Holland stopped playing after the group stage. Would be a travesty to football if Argentina win the final.

Apparently both Huntelaar and Robben refused to go first, so Vlaar stepped up and took the responsibility.
