Are you doing Economics and Politics now? I forget what you were doing.. BSc?

My Masters is going ok, it's research based so I am just graded on my thesis (25k) (submission next Sep), and then one essay (4k) for a methodology lesson that is compulsory (always representation or feminism, yawn.). The real time swallower for me is that I'm doing Latin and French on the side so I barely have time to research my thesis....

Have an interview today for a pt teaching job in local impoverished schools, outreach n all that jazz. 17 quid an hour if I get it...

I am, yeah. My original degree was BA Economics but I changed to BA Economics & Politics at the start of my second year. Really glad I did as I much prefer the Politics and managed to sneak a 2:1 in both of my essays last term. Too bad my Economics let me down.

I'm in my final year of Physics. Finding it pretty enjoyable after doing a placement year, and having 10 hours less contact time than previous years helps. I'm hoping to get a first, but there is some pretty hard stuff we're doing so far /o\.

I don't have to worry about my research project for a little while as it doesn't start until like March/April time. Although I will have to write a research proposal before then, but we haven't even been given the list of topics yet.

Other than that I'm getting back into the hang of things now. Reading academic papers again was a bit of a hurdle, I much prefer Batman comics.

Just realized it's already been a month.

First of all, my timetable is a dream. I only have four modules this semester so my week-end start at 1:00 PM on Wednesday...

It is also much easier to access coursework and learning ressources. Back in France we had to fight to get the slides, some professors wouldn't even give them and the online portal pretty much abandoned. Here it's all available immediately, plus they give a printed versio each time with space for notes. The online library is also great

Real business start soon, but hey that's what I came for.

Sounds good.

I've got a list of universities in France where I can go next year and I've narrowed it down to either Lyon or La Rochelle. Struggling to choose between the two, which would you recommend?

I didn't know La Rochelle had an university

Lyon is the biggest town in France after Paris, it's about the same size as Manchester or Leeds. Loads of students, with three universities. Good nightlife (good enough to attract people from surrounding cities like Saint-Etienne or Grenoble)

La Rochelle is a modest coastside town, much like Norwich I'd say. I've just looked it up for the uni and they apparently have a very good reputation with business and science class.

MSc?

I'm doing an MPhil, so it's not taught. I had to apply with a research proposal :/.

Norwich isn't on the coast, and it's not a town.

La Rochelle will be 10x nicer than Norwich too. Cheers though om4ever. They both sound really nice places but I might be leaning towards Lyon, don't have to decide just yet thankfully.

Eh. If you're going to uni, you'll probably enjoy it more being somewhere busy than somewhere quiet like La Rochelle though.

True, although Norwich is one of the nicer Cities in the country imo.

The medieval bit is rather picturesque.

Yep its a taught MSc. Got modules and workshops now but then a big 6 month lab project next year. I'm pooping myself about it but looking forward to the challenge. Hopefully it'll lead somewhere good.

It depends on what you're looking for. I actually prefer Brighton to London but was trying to find a compromise.
