Considering these teams are pretty much universally agreed upon to finish around about 6/7th they really are both shockingly average.

I think we're heading for about 8th/9th to be honest.

Poor yet again, especially in front of goal. Can't wait for Son or Njie to start playing just so I don't have to witness Dembele being played out of position or Lamela on the right wing ever again.

Watching MOTD, do pundits actually watch the match or are they given a 5 minute highlight package and make assumptions from it?

They kept talking about Newcastle being dirty, while replaying the same two challenges over and over, because they were the only two in which a Newcastle player made any contact on. - It wasn't even a dirty game.

Arsenal were probably the dirtier side, as they did a lot of cynical fouls, which the referee just wasn't booking them for.

Isn't that common knowledge? As an explanation for how Shearer and co always only manage to muster cliches while the MNF guys are able to provide more in-depth analysis having had more time to watch the games.

Tbf, and i know people will turn round and say "its their job" but they cant exactly watch every full game before recording can they? Agree with the some of the bollocks they come out with mind

I thought they have multicast screens for the live 3pm games, a bit like sky's soccer saturday.

I usually record MOTD and fast forward through the analysis parts so I don't really know what they're saying. Judging by what snippets I do see, I'm clearly not missing anything worthwhile. Especially seeing as Martin Keown was the one slagging us off for being dirty.

I do wonder though if we're getting more yellows/reds than we should be because we're getting a reputation as a dirty team, similar to Blackburn and Bolton when they were BPL mainstays. The ones Mbemba and Thauvin were booked for didn't look like bookings, even if Wijnaldum didn't help by getting booked for sarcastically applauding the only Arsenal booking (least that's what I heard - I missed the first ten or so of the second half but heard on radio that was the reason).

The club are apparently going to appeal Mitrovic's red, but in all reality, why bother - I don't think we've had a red repealed in about ten years.

Yeah this is true. But I want to know if anyone is actually watching the game. Like a researcher, anyone?

In fairness if you raise your boot you have to go off. Mitrovic with a real toebreaker.

Watching the game I felt like our team needed body armour playing against Newcastle. How anyone could argue with Mitrovic's red is beyond me.

Not watched it yet but did they even mention Nobles first challenge yesterday or just the fact that he shouldn't have seen a straight red?

The Arsenal bench and players clearly didn't think it was a red. No one cared.

It was at 1 mile per hour ffs.

They might have done in the analysis. But they didn't show it in the game. I think the commentator said the whistle had already gone, making it sound like it was for violent conduct or something.

I watched the Spurs - Everton game for about 5 minutes and seen a guy get kicked in the head, and Cleverley stretchered off after a horror challenge. The ref did nowt.

One idea I saw previously was the concept of a halfway card between a yellow & a red, with a 5/10 minute sin-bin for offenders. That might've worked better than a straight red.

Studs up, over the ball, raked down the lower half of the shin; how on Earth is it anything but a red card? Toon going down to 10 men made it more difficult for us than it would've been if you'd had have 11 on the pitch anyway.

Mitrovic's was a red card, also Sissoko and Thauvim were lucky to stay on too and Arsenal should have had a penalty.

I got the impression from the game that he gave Noble a yellow card for his challenge in the first half then realised he'd fucked up and just waited for the opportunity to then send him off, Coutinho's sending off just made it even easier for him

There's no speed in the challenge and Mitrovic doesn't have any body weight behind it. Look at the reactions of the players, Mitrovic, Cazorla and Monreal and the Arsenal bench just don't react.

Thauvin ffs.

Grazes Coquelin's ankle, before two seconds later Coquelin does a ridiculous dive

We don't really crowd the referee anymore in all honesty. If we did you'd be moaning that we're trying to get a player sent off. It was reckless by Mitrovic and a definite sending off, even the Newcastle staff had their mouths open in shock. There can be no complaints and Newcastle gave away cynical fouls constantly throughout yesterdays game and it's reflected in the card stats.

And nice of the fella who made the vine to crop out Coquelin's ankle where it got stuck in the grass where Thauvin tackled him so he had to jump to avoid damage

Thauvin's was awful, you clearly see Coquelin's ankle bend and could have been a bad injury. Fuck me Shola give it a rest.

Saying that, the video above magically cuts out the bottom part where the contact was lol.

EDIT: Just seen Jorge has said the same thing.

I don't man crowding the ref. I mean no one appeals for a free kick, no one seems upset, no one is doing anything. The Arsenal bench look completely nonplussed, no one even stands up.

If you don't want yourself to get ligament damage it is a normal reaction. You need to get off the floor otherwise being planted could lead to serious injury.

Why would he get ligament damage?

He gets the contact. And then does a fucking barrel roll and rolls on the floor.

What like his ankle bending completely one way and would've gone further if he didn't jump in the air? Do you know how ankles work? They're not meant to bend like that mate.

It's incredibly similar to the one Dier (I think) did on Cleverly in the Spurs game and was inexplicably not sent off for.

That one actually caused injury and its luck, and nothing else, that the same thing hasn't happened to Coquelin.
Shola

The Dier one was from behind and two footed. The Thauvin one was a studs down one footed challenge. Coquelin would be extremely unluck to get injured from that.

Mitrovic is lucky to be alive ffs. Gabriel could have killed him with a kung fu kick to the skull.

Thauvin's is a weird one as he makes contact with a different ankle to the one it looks like he should hit, but foul and booking is fair.
