MARTINEZ PROMISES EVERTON IMPROVEMENT

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has promised an improvement in his Everton side after his side finished a disappointing 11th in the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League table.
The Merseyside club endured a difficult season last season, often occupying a place just above the relegation zone. It wasn't until a run of 5 wins in 6 games over the months of March and April that Roberto Martinez's side managed to open up a substantial gap from the relegation zone. The blue half of Merseyside will no doubt look back on results at Goodison Park, such as the 3-2 loss to Crystal Palace and the 2-0 loss to Sunderland, to find where improvements can be made. Improvements that manager Roberto Martinez has promised to make.
Speaking to BBC Sport earlier today Martinez said: "I will be brutally honest with you, last season was not good enough from our point of view. To miss out on European qualification was bad enough but to not finish in the top half is an absolute disgrace for a club as big as this. Everton are not a bottom half team and this season we will be looking to put that right and finish in the top half where we belong. With all due respect to the likes of Crystal Palace and Swansea, we should not be finishing below them in the table, we are a lot better than that."
"The fans did not deserve the level of performance they received from us last season, especially at Goodison Park and I have to apologise for that. Only winning 7 out of 19 home games in the Premier League is not going to get you into the top half of the table and this is what we will need to address for the coming season. We need to make Goodison Park into a fortress, a place where teams fear visiting. Our fans are the best fans in the Premier League by far and the support they give us week in week out is nothing short of phenomenal. It's time we repaid them for that support."

Juventus eye England international

Reports have surfaced stating Italian giants Juventus are lining up a 25 million pound bid for England international left back Leighton Baines.
Everton's England international left back Leighton Baines could become Juventus' first summer signing with manager Massimiliano Allegri reportedly lining up a £25 million bid for the 29 year old. It is believed that Everton are keen to retain the services of Baines and only a bid of up to £40 million would convince them to sell one of their key players.
According to a source close to the player, a move to Italian giants Juventus would be a hard one to turn down.
"Don't get it wrong, it's not about money for Leighton and it never will be for him. He's just not that type of person" said the source.
"However, if a big club like Juventus come in for you it's always going to be hard to say no. Juventus are afterall one of the most recognised teams in Europe. Leighton is extremely happy at Everton at the moment and he's looking forward to European nights returning to Goodison Park, but if Juventus are serious about trying to get him, it's something he's definitely got to think about."

Naismith makes Tottenham move

Tottenham have finally completed their pursuit of Everton's Steven Naismith, capturing the Scotland international for a fee of 13.5 million pounds.
Scotland international, Naismith, was a regular member of the Everton starting eleven last season and played 39 times, scoring on 8 occasions. Tottenham's interest in securing the services of Naismith was made apparent early on in the summer with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino stating that he 'liked the look' of Naismith.
BBC Sport managed to catch up with both Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettinoo and Steven Naismith as they left Tottenham's training ground earlier today.
Naismith said: "I am delighted to have finally signed for Tottenham. As I've said before Tottenham are a great club with great fans and I am really excited to get started. I know I will have to fight for my place here but I think that will make me a better footballer. It's been a few years since Tottenham won a trophy so hopefully we can win everything there is to win this season and make the fans proud."
Mauricio Pochettino added: "I am very happy that Steven has decided to join us and I'd like to welcome him to the club. Steven is a terrific player and should definitely push for a starting place in the side. He's an Scotland international and his performances at Everton have shown us just what he is capable of. I would not have bought him if I didn't think he was ready to partner Harry (Kane) upfront. I look forward to seeing the two upfront together."

Garbutt Signs New Deal

Luke Garbutt has committed his long-term future to Everton by signing a new contract at Goodison Park.
The 22-year-old left-back has agreed a new five-year deal, pledging himself to the Club until the end of the 2019/20 season.
Garbutt, a product of the Everton Academy, made his Premier League debut for the Club as a 20-year-old at Southampton in the 2013/14 season, replacing Leighton Baines. He continued his career progression during the 2014/15 season, making 10 more first-team appearances including four in the Premier League, and a sense of genuine belonging and real ambition underpinned his decision to stay at Goodison.
"It's an honour to commit my long-term future to Everton. I’ve been made to feel very welcome at the Club since I signed my scholarship six years ago. Over the years, I have grown to have an affinity with the Club and I feel a sense of belonging here. Under the manager, the future looks bright and positive and I want to be a part of that. It is a great Club to be a part of and the staff and supporters have been great with me from day one."
"Last season was great for me in continuing my development, my personal highlight being the Europa League adventure as I gained a lot of experience in those games playing against top quality opposition. Everything we went through last season and the experience we gained as a group will only make us stronger as a team ahead of the new season. And with all the young players we’ve got such as Rom, Ross and Stonesy - all of them key players, too, the future of the Club couldn't be more promising."
