Free Kicks

Hey everyone, now I don't currently have the new FM game (gotta buy a new car in the next couple of days and then gonna get a new laptop and FM13) but I was wondering if SI have improved the Free Kicks in the game?

I ask this because I would like to know I there is any point in trying to sign a set piece (specifically free kick) expert as I know that it is almost impossible to score a free kick in FM12 as I completed a season earlier tonight and scored 0 direct free kicks all year with a taker of 19 and 18 and yet Liverpool scored 4 when there highest taker was 17

it's easy , if you want to score from freekick, buy ,, Gylfi Sigurdsson " he's the best there is!

Not having played through an entire season yet and I have yet to manage a team with a truly talented free kick taker, but given there is an entirely new match engine, I'd say there is a good chance that there'd be more free kick goals than there was on FM12 and FM11.

I've played nearly a whole season, and not scored one despite having takers of 16-17 and only conceded one and that was only because my goalkeeper caught it and then a second later, dropped it into his own net...which was annoying.

I can't see an increase in this for this year's ME, but maybe I've just been unlucky.

That's what I couldn't understand, free kicks used to be determined by the free kick and technique attribute but in recent games its just based on whether or not its your team taking it, if its you then it's either saved, over, wide or in the wall, if its the opposition then it could go in

It was very inconsitest on FM 12. I had one guy who scored about 6 free kicks, but from the same amount of matches, using the same player, he failed to score one.

Look at it as being realistic. IRL John Arne Riise is a freekick specialist, during his Liverpool days he often bagged goals from them, last season for Fulham barely scored any. Even the best free kick takers don't score that often. On prior games it has been very easy for people with FK's at say 18 to score regularly, ridiculously so at times. On FM 07 a regen of mine scored 17 Direct FK's in one season, cool as that was, not all that realistic.

I understand that it isn't realistic for a player to score with every free kick but surely the probability should increase with having a higher stat

I had a player who scored free kicks from the edge of the area every time on FM12.
On this game, my team (Chester) have scored about 4 in one season.

I feel as if there's more of a problem with corners rather than free kicks, I know there was a glitch last year but this takes the beetroot this year.

I have signed Joe McKee for Rangers on a Bosman. 20 for freekicks and puts them away 90% of the time. He was the same in FM12. Great player. Played in CM but his attributes were perfect for a ST (high finishing, penalties, composure etc).

It might be me being deceived by the small sample size, but it seems like they've finally got the free kicks right in the latest patch.

Funny thing, I was talking to a friend over skype about how I never ever scored on free-kicks for some reason.. I think I scored atleast 7 straight after that and my player still scores alot on free-kicks still

Yeah, after playing further they have definitely made free kick goals more frequent. I think I've scored 6 or 7 in all competitions after half a season.

As of yesterday i brought and new pc and downloaded FM13, I only had time to install it, start a new game and get 1 match in before i had to stop but it's good to know that the free kicks are at least another bow to add to the teams string. I really didn't like the free kicks on FM12 as rather than being able to play as a smaller / lower divisioned team with a decent free kick taker then you had a chance of getting goals when you lacked the quality to get many balls through to the strikers.

Also if anyones interested i shall be starting a career with Everton that will be posted from tomorrow onwards.
