Season 1 (2016/17), Update 1
Introduction
Buffon's comment last season after the team secured promotion to the Lega Pro.
So who are you Parma Calcio 1913?
Well, I don't think I should talk much about Parma. I believe most of us know this team very well.
Alot of great players have played in this team throughout the years, and one of my goals is to make this list much longer.
Training facilities are just amazing for a team of our level, and I hope we will be smart enough to maximize our players' abilities. Our youth facilities are good too, and of course they will improve over time.
Who am I?
Many eyebrows were lifted when Roberto D'Aversa resigned few days after Parma secured their promotion to Lega Pro. I, Anthony Lucciano, or just Anthony, 23 years old local kid, is his successor. I'm expected to bring immediate success, and promote once again this year.
Well, that was it.
P.S.
As you probably have already noticed, my English isn't that good, so I hope I don't make too many mistakes.
Thanks for reading

Season 1 (2016/17), Update 2
August
So during the pre-season I highlighted some of our key players for this season.
The first one is Alessandro Lucarelli, our 39 years old long-serving CB and also our captain who should hold the defense.
The next one is Matteo Scozzarella, the best box to box midfielder we have and one who I expect to carry the rest of the team to the next league.
The last one, our prime striker, Emanuele Calaiò, arrived this year and should make instant impact.
The rest of the squad:
After going through our squad, I noticed that we really need a DM and another striker for the rotation, so I signed this DM on free transfer:
Abdou Aziz Thiam, only 19 years old, released this summer from AS Monaco for free and I couldn't miss the chance to sign this nice player.
Second and last, we signed Marko Dugandzic on loan from Ternana Calcio until the end of the season. not bad.
Possibly our tactics for this season:
Friendlies:
It wasn't a good summer for us, but we cashed in some good money for bringing home pretty much popular teams. Also, we finished it better with an 4-2 win over HSV and 2-1 over Frosinone.
Coppa Italia Lega Pro:
Although this thropy isn't so important, I really think that we shouldn't give up on any available thropy so we gonna take it seriously.
We were drawn in group D alongside Forli FC and Santacangelo Calcio. I didn't think it should be too hard for us, and I was right:
So we qualified easily from our group and now we await the next round draw.
Lega Pro Girone B:
We also had the first games in the league.
The first one was away against Alto Adige, which I expected to win smoothly.
So we won, but definitely not smooth. just 1-0 and not that good performance from our guys. Hope it will get better.
On matchday 2, we hosted AC Reggiana, title and promotion contender to the dell'Enza Derby.
We played really bad and can count ourselves lucky to get a point from this match.
League table:
So August is over and I don't really know if we should count it as a good month or bad one. I guess we need to wait and see how things will go few months ahead.
Grimnir
I double my previous wish of luck!

Season 1 (2016/17), Update 3
September
Heading off to Filippo Inzaghi's Venezia. After scoring just 2 goals in the opening matches of the league, I changed some player instructions in order to give us some better attacking options. Calaiò gave us the lead with his head after 20 minutes following Scavone's masterpiece cross. At this stage, I thought I'm gonna write that my tactic change worked, but guess what? the match ended another narrow 1-0. Damn it.
Home game. Against Mantova, which is predicted to finish 12th. But they are overachieving so far. I expected us to get another 3 points here, but we were shocked by their lead only 7 minutes into the game. Things got worse when Thiam, my signing, earned a deserved red after collecting 2 yellow cards in the 26th min (!!). During the half time, I tried to motivate my players to atleast get a draw, but we didn't really play well and lost. First lose of the season, and hopefully the last.
We already won Forli this season, in the cup, but before the game it seems like they play much better than us so far. They're coming to this game from the 1st place, while we're only in the 4th. The first half finished off 0-0, really even match. Since the beginning of the second half we started pushing forward and took control over the game with some shocking misses, but in the 79th min we got our chance: penalty. But Dugandzic missed TERRIBLY, not even on target. The match finished 0-0 and I'm not satisfied again.
Home game against Teramo. Another mid-table overachieving team. If we cant get the 3 points here, I dont know how this season will end. Scaglia was first to put us on the scoreboard with a nice shot after 18 minutes. I can't really talk much more about this match, because there weren't any other events until he ended. 1-0 to right side. I'll never complain on narrow wins anymore
To wrap up the month, we went away from home to face Santarcangelo, one of the teams that should fight against relegation. This was one of those games which nothing happens, and the only event occurred near the end of the game, and happily it was Scaglia who scored and brought the points back home.
Table:
I can't say that i'm pleased with the way we play, but we have enough time to improve and right now everything can happen either way.
My PoM:
Luigi Alberto Scaglia. Wasn't playing like Messi, but he brought us 6 points this month by himself.

Season 1 (2016/17), Update 4
Reaching mid-season
October:
Bassano is a top half team who are currently playing right at their expectations. They come to this match from the 8th place but we need the win to contest the first place. Scozzarella gave us the lead after 15 mins of play with a nice free kick. Lucarelli made a crucial mistake which helped Bassano to equalize. Just when I thought that we aren't capable of pushing forward to win, Calaiò finally found the net after an amazing dribble by Nocciollini from the right side in the 76th min. We were smart enough to hold our lead, and the big news came from the rest of the league: Our rivals lost points which sent us top for the first time this season. Lets keep it up boys.
Next up were Maceratese, an overachieveing team who are currently having a nice season. We want to expand our winning streak to four straight wins. Things started not so well with the injury of Scozzarella, and right before the half time we found ourself behind. Maceratse had a truly easy game because our players just refused to show up and it was reflected on the scoreboard: 0-2 after 54 mins. Our nightmare continued with another one in the 66th min. To sum it up: our worst performance so far this season and the final score justified it: 0-3 to the bad guys.
Just like we didn't have enough problems over our head after that lose, Scozzarella, one of our key players, won't play football for the next 3 months.
Padova came to our fortress and we really needed some convincing win to raise back the morale. We took the lead after they GK made a terrible mistake and put in a funny own goal. We held our lead to the rest of the game and came back with another 3 points in our pocket.
The rest of the games in October:
November:
I don't even wanna comment on this game. complete disaster for us. I only hope for quick reaction.
Crazy game, where we pulled back twice, but we need to start winning again.
Cup:
Second round drew us against Cremonese, who are playing way below expectations and been struggling in Girone A (twin group of our league). Calaiò gave us the lead from the penalty spot not long before the half time whistle. Munari secured the win with a fine header in the 86th min. Cremonese scored one minute after our goal, but it wasn't enough for them and we will face Como in the third round.
Back to the league, we welcomed another promotion contender, FeralpiSalò. We knew they love the ball, so I went for counter attacks for this game, and it didn't really went well. But counter attacks shouldn't work well all time, because after 75 mins we finally had a shot on target and Baraye delivered us the 1-0. We were smart enough to hold that minor lead and win.
Last game for this month, we travelled away to face AC Ancona, who are having a nice season and find themselves in the 6th place before this match, definitely playoffs material. Things started very bad for us, with such festival in our defense which gave Ancona the lead after just 12 minutes. Our response came early when Scaglia scored a nice counter attack in the 30th min. Scavone had a great chance to complete the come back but he missed terribly, and Ancona punished us from the other side after exploiting another hole in our defense. I sent everyone up but nothing helped. Bad lose makes us lose the first place after a while.
December:
There aren't many better opponents like Pordenone for us in order to get back in track, And I fully expected my team to get a win no matter what. Calaiò had a great chance to give us the lead after 20 mins, but he missed and proved again that we should look for better striker. Calaiò missed again near the full time whistle, and when you miss such chances you can't complain about how you didn't win. Disappointing 0-0. We gotta improve before the top spot will be unreachable.
Rest of the matches until the end of the first round:
AlbinoLeffe was the first convincing win I had this season so far. Finally everything worked like I wanted and I told the players how happy I was. Then came a solid win at home against Lumezzane. It seems like the goals are starting to come finally.
Table:
Overall not a bad first round, lying at first spot but Bassano has 1 less game. I think we're capable of more and I hope we will take control over the league until the end of the season and secure the automatic promotion.

Season 1 (2016/17), Update 5
January
Cup - Third Round:
The road continues. We'll play against Livorno in the quarter finals.
Alto Adige is one of the four title contenders at the moment, and they travelled all the way to Parma to meet us, the current league leaders. Last round we won 1-0 away and we want to complete the swoop over them. The good news before the match is the return of Scozzarella, but he's not in shape so he might get some minutes near the end of the match. After 30 boring minutes, Scavone finally broke the ice with an impressive volley and put us infront. Four minutes later, Calaiò got a present from their goalie but missed (again). Near the end of the match, Frattali saved us 3 times in the same attack to keep our lead alive, and the final score was 1-0. That narrow win counted as the fifth match in a row without conceding, which is really positive.
The next game is away vs Reggiana. We had a nightmare start as they took the lead only two mins into the match. Their lead lasted almost 50 minutes, right before Thiam scored his first goal for the team with his head from a corner. Nothing happend until the end, and just like the previous meeting, both teams finish at 1-1.
The game at home against Venezia also started pretty bad. 23 minutes in, we already found ourselves behind. Lucky for us, Scaglia, the one and only, netted the ball only 10 minutes later to balance the game. Scaglia didn't stop there and completed the comeback deep inside the second half with a lovely free kick. Scavone finished the game with the third goal right before the injury time to give us the precious win.
After the game we reached January and the team had 23 days off. There weren't any transfer activities due to the club's poor finances at the moment. I really hope we can improve that part as soon as possible.
The 'break' is over and we have an unfinished story with our next rival, Mantova, who won us previously. The game was total garbage until the 70th min, with only 1 shot on target for both sides, but then Calaiò released one hell of a volley to finish Nunzella's terrific cross from the left and put us in front. Just nine minutes passed, and the same move happend from the right side this time. Iacoponi found Calaiò and our striker expanded our lead. Mantova simply didn't show up and that fact helped us get the sweet revenge.
Cup - Quarter Finals:
So we wanted to show Livorno just what we're made of, but unfortunately the first half was b-o-r-i-n-g. Not a single highlight. Both teams woke up during the second half, and the first to mark his name over the match was Scaglia who finished a volley after some messy defense from Livorno. The away team started pushing to get the equalizer and had some fine chances to do that, but our defense done their job and we're ahead to the semi finals.
Back to the league to host Forlì once again this season. Definitely a top-half clash as they come from the 3rd place while we lead the league at the moment. Things started great for us as Iacoponi scored a really lovely volley from outside the penalty box to mark his great performances lately after just two minutes. But Forlì never intended to give up, and our lead lasted less than eight minutes and we're equal again. The first half ended 1-1 but both teams played great and the match could still go either side. Forlì didn't play well in the second half, but they found themself upfront after an harsh mistake by our defense. We tried our best and pushed everyone up to secure atleast a point, but the final whistle was blown and we've lost both the match and the first place in the table.

Season 1 (2016/17), Update 6
February - March
Last round we won Teramo at home, this time we want to do it away. The game started with opportunities for both sides, and goals for both sides. 15 minutes in the score was already 1-1. Our guy on fire, Iacoponi, has picked an injury and we had to sub him out very early. The boys seemed very calm and sharp and Calaiò gave us the lead near the half time whistle. In the second half, we took complete control over the game, and it was reflected on the scoreboard: 3-1 to us.
Cup - Semi Finals Leg 1:
Instead of sealing this tie after leading 2-0, we found ourselves not very comfortable towards the second leg at their home.
League:
Another solid win at league against the last place. The good news are Bassano's lose which takes us 4 points above them right before the big match between us.
Going away perhaps for the most important game of the season against our closest rival, Bassano. Bassano took the lead after 9 minutes with a great move. Things got worse when our CB, Di Cesare, sent off directly following an ugly tackle. Our first half performance was really bad and I tried to show some aggressiveness to wake them up. 12 minutes in the second half the game was balanced again following a red card to Bassano. At this point I sent everyone up and it was worth it: Scozzarella scored outside the penalty box within the 70th minute. The game finished with a draw and I'm happy.
Cup - Semi Finals Leg 2:
Partying all the way to the finals. Foggia, the current holders of this competition, will be our rival.
League:
Very boring game. Zero highlights, zero things to tell you about
I thought we'd have an easy game due to their early sent off, but Padova showed that there is a reason for them going on playoffs. But still a win.
We've got my first intake of youths, and I'm completely pleased of Cristian Liuzzi, who's predicted to be one of our best players in the future. Remember the name.
Another players to watch:
Andrea Manduca:
Alfredo Mazzoleni:
Daniele Pecci:
League:
Surprising draw with, possibly, one of the relegation candidates. Not good.
What a collapse. We shouldn't play like that so late in the season.
Our next game, home vs Fano, was picked for a fan day. Maybe that will get us back on track?
Yes ! A great win, and totally inspiring goals. Another week on Everest.
Table:
* I accidentally deleted the table picture and already progressed in save, so I'll just tell you that we lead the table by 3 points ahead of Bassano. Sorry for the inconvenience *
Results Overview:
What's expected next ?
Can we secure the league and complete the double ?

Season 1 (2016/17), Update 7
All or Nothing
Approaching the final stage of the season. Time to see if we did the double or lost everything?
Matchday 33 against Sambenedettese. Should be an easy win.
Well, not easy, but another 3 points. After this game we secured participation at playoffs. We still want the crown.
Cup - Final first leg:
At home, I expected us to get a good result. We had a penalty after 6 mins, and Calaiò scored and sent us upfront. After 37 minutes, we've been given another penalty, and Calaiò scored again !
In second half, like many times before, we took many steps backwards, and Foggia pulled one back 15 minutes before the final whistle. Then, Calaiò went off on injury. Final score: 2-1 at home. A little worried. Calaiò probably finished the season, might return to one of our last games.
Without Calaiò, a game at home against AC Ancona.
Another solid win and another step to the championship.
Round 35, away at FeralpiSalò.
Seriously ?? Disappointing draw keeps the 3 points margin between us and Bassano.
Cup - Final second leg:
After winning 2-1 at home, we travelled away to finish the job and collect the first thropy in my era. I told the players that I want an early goal to cancel Foggia's away goal from last game, and they did it. Iacoponi went up all the way from our defense to score an header and give us the lead. Only 3 minutes have passed and Foggia pulled it back to 1-1 after a massive hole between our CB's. The second half was quite boring, and both teams played pretty bad. We had our game killer Scozzarella who sealed the deal at the 88th minute with a great goal outside the area. The thropy is ours !
Also encouraging, we're the first team ever to win every game in this competition. quite an achievement !
3 games left to the league, and we lead by 3 points. We need to be super concentrated and secure the league, maybe with a little help if Bassano will slip points. The first one was against a team who have already secured their place in the playoff, Pordenone. Last time it finished drawn, this time we need more than that.
Letting a goal so late in the game, and Bassano secured their win also not much before the final whiste there. Things are getting complicated.
AlbinoLeffe. Our last game at home for this season. Anything but win would be very disappointing.
Table before the game:
The game:
AMAZING. Bassano lost their tough game, and Scavone scored for us in the 91th min. That means - We are the champions, and we did the double !
Scavone's title goal:
https://youtu.be/Xee-VM4RGMg
Some interesting media messages:
Our last game against Lumezzane wasn't important for us, so I let my assistant manage it.
And he managed to lose.
Then suddenly popped up a new competition: Italian C Super Cup. This competition puts Girone A, B and C winners in 1 group to decide who's the best team of this tier. Fine by me.
The first game took us away to Girone A winners, Alessandria. They weren't predicted to win the league but played above expectations and progressed (very easy) to Serie B. Good news for us, Calaiò returned from his injury and we really needed him.
Really crazy game. Only a draw against ten-men Alessandria..
The second game, again away from home, against US Catanzaro, Girone C winners. We needed a win to progress since Catanzaro has lost to Alessandria. Any win will be good for us.
Our players were really up for this and showed their ambition to win the thropy since the beginning of the match. Very one-sided win gives us our third thropy this season. What a debut season for me to remember.
League Final Table:
POST SEASON:
So a very good year for us. We managed to win every competition we played at, which is very nice. But we need to keep both or feet on ground because Serie B is a whole different level and our current squad isn't even close to compete on promoting further to Serie A.
In the meantime, Here's some media to sum our season:
The negative part of this season was the finances. The club has debts and at the moment it's really hard for me to improve or ask for anything outside the pitch since we don't really have the money. Let's hope for a better financial year next season.
That's it for now.
Next Update: Season 2 (2017/18) - Pre-Season.
