So I was having a look through these here forums when suddenly the Conquer the World Challenge caught my eye. I figured that I should try to put together a proper story instead of just updating the challenge thread, so here goes!

My name is PT, and I've been working abroad in the IT field as a consultant, and the Cubihell working environment is killing me. Slowly. Very. Slowly. A couple weeks ago Ken, an old mate of mine, who is currently the Chairman of a local small club in Uppsala, Sweden, called me up and asked if I'd like to come back home to try something different. He had only hinted at what he meant, but it later became all too clear when I met him for coffee during a quick trip to Stockholm.
"You did what?", I said, choking on an old, dry, supposedly "freshly made" sandwich bought at the coffee shop. "You can't just go ahead and tell the board that you are bringing in a 'specialist' to assist the club with the coming season! At least not without talking to me about it first!"
Ken looked at me, and winked, "Oh come on P, it'll be just like old times when we played around with those start ups way back when! I handle the cash and marketing, and you get your hands dirty. Joking aside, the previous guy managing the team was too boring. And besides, I need someone whom I can play Football Manager with in the weekends!"
I just stared at him, speechless. "Oh man. You are serious aren't you? Well, I am getting crazy sitting in a cubicle all day, that's for sure..."
Uppsala - Two months later
I was settling into my fairly small flat, still wondering how Ken had managed to give me a salary of 7K SEK per week. I still can't believe that I resigned my old job, just like that.
Oh well, I have been wanting to try my hand at football management at some point, so let's see what we have at our disposal here at Gamla Upsala SK:
This is the current senior squad. All of them conveniently have contracts that expire at the end of this season, so we will see what happens. I will also be taking a look at the U21 and U18 squads to see if there are any interesting players there.
Surprisingly enough GUSK have a senior affiliate club too; local top division club Sirius. Although they were newly promoted, we can always hope for them to send us some players on loan. The upcoming friendlies are as follow:
Most of those clubs are very high up in the league system, so I wonder how we will fare against top competition. At least the best paying matches are at home!

Ekerö IK - Gamla Upsala SK
As I am sitting here in the dugout, watching my guys warm up before the whistle, I briefly wonder what the heck I am doing again...
"Great. Rain during my first match. It must be a sign of things to come..."
Upsala Nya Tidning, Mar 11:
Our local boys GUSK are going to Stockholm to kick off the pre-season friendlies. And boy did they do so in style!
After 28 rainy minutes, Pedersen smashed a great volley in the top right corner, making the 1 hour trip to Stockholm instantly worth it!
After the half time break, we saw GUSK make a large number of substitutions, presumably because the new manager wants to see as many players as possible in action.
The didn't present much action in the second half and was rather dull, and Pedersen's goal was the lone goal all game.

I put the newspaper down and chuckled to myself. It definitely felt much more exciting than the paper made it sound. Fair enough, who normally cares about a pre-season friendly between a local Div 4 club and a club from an even lower one?
The next friendly sees us play IFK Göteborg, who are in the top tier and one of the best teams in Scandinavia. I can't wait to see what the local paper will write about that one.
