Cheers guys, should be pretty interesting. I haven't done an A-League save since FM15, always tend to struggle with the restrictions for transfers, not much leeway and lack of funds.
Below are the transfers the club has brought in this season.. Most of the new players were brought in by the club in real life, I signed two players, Steve Kuzmanovski who's had a run in the A-League already with Melbourne City but didn't have much success, although he still remains an exciting prospect. And Carl Stewart who I've used a few times in past FM's as part of my Watford save and did pretty well in cup games.
In terms of pre-season friendlies, the games are always too easy as outside the A-League the teams are pretty poor, but it's definitely what you want in pre-season anyway so your players get their fitness up and to get accustomed to the tactics. Towards the end I decided to test myself against a much bigger club which was Anderlecht and surprisingly did really well to earn a 2-2 draw.
The FFA Cup which runs mostly in pre-season, with the semi's and final being played very early into the competitive season started very well for us against a State League team, I played a quite below average squad and managed a 3-0 win. Up next was fellow league rivals the Central Coast Mariners, really tough game but managed to go through in extra-time by being awarded two penalties. In the quarter-finals we came up against Adelaide United, who to be honest are probably one of the better teams in the league. Once again it took extra-time to break the deadlock and secure a spot in the semi-final.
Four teams then into the hat for the Semi-Finals draw. Sydney FC, Melbourne City, Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne Victory. Ideally I would've loved to have the Sydney derby in the Final of the FFA Cup but the draw decided it would be best to hand out two derbies for the semi's. Melbourne City vs Melbourne Victory & Sydney FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers. Both games should be fantastic!
Next update will include the first month of league football and the wrap up of the FFA Cup.

Huge win, kinda aided by 2 penalties in the first 10 minutes that were slotted past the keeper by van der Linden our CB and even managed to complete a hattrick of penalties with another in the 88th minute. Basically walked into the final.
FFA CUP FINAL
Came up against Melbourne Victory for the Final of the FFA Cup, pretty big rivalry and my first game against one of the title contenders. Was hoping to get my first piece of silverware but it just wasn't meant to be. I'll definitely blame it on the run of league fixtures and it being poorly booked 2 days after a match, my players started the game on 80-84% condition. We still managed more shots altogether and somehow getting 60-40 possession but Melbourne were just too good on the night and made their chances count.
The first 3 months of league football has been pretty average, still trying to work out what tactic to run with this squad and injuries have been ridiculous thus far, came to a point against Wellington Phoenix at home where I had to have a bench of Youth players and ended up losing that game at home. But given the poor start we still manage to find ourselves in 4th place.
Next update will contain January and February..

LEAGUE TABLE
Below is the current league table a few teams still with a game in hand including us. Currently 3 points behind the leaders Melbourne Victory, who we will face at the start of next month at home.
Next update will include March and the AFC Asian Champions League Group Stage.

Both March and April consisted of the final run in the league as well as the start of the Asian Champions League Group Stage. We started off really well, going on a little winning streak before playing away to Gamba Osaka where we lost 2-1. Following that loss we went on to lose another 2 in a row across all competitions including a huge match against Melbourne Victory. We managed to pick up 3 wins in the last 3 games of the league but sadly the game against Melbourne proved too costly as we missed out on the minor premiership by those 3 points.
Below is the final league table. The way the A-League works is that the top 6 qualify for a Finals Series. 1st and 2nd enjoy a week of rest whilst 3rd-6th play an elimination game. 1st and 2nd will then come in and verse the winners in a semi-final for a spot in the A-League Grand-Final.
A-LEAGUE FINALS SERIES
The two teams going through from the first elimination games were Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United who finished 3rd and 4th respectively in the league. We got drawn against our city rivals Western Sydney Wanderers and I couldn't of been happier as this would be our 5th time facing off this season and we had won all 4 previous games against them. And so it continued.. Can I just say Adam Le Fondre is an absolute beast and also broke the league record for the most goals in a season during this match!
We then found out who the opponents would be for the A-League Grand-Final and as predicted, MELBOURNE VICTORY absolutely smashed Adelaide to earn their spot.
The final was an interesting game. We scored from a long distance freekick to make it 1-0 and shortly after we get awarded a penalty which Adam Le Fondre buried into the bottom corner. Melbourne scored shortly after half-time but 2 minutes later Le Fondre doubled his tally and put us 3-1 up. Melbourne went on to have a bunch of shots but our keeper was tremendous! Final whistle blew and we are Premiers!
CHAMPIONS!
Up next will be the Asian Champions League games and a season review!

Thanks mate! I've realized something quite bizarre heading into the Champions League. Van der Linden has been bought by AZ Alkmaar on a free, Siem De Jong's loan ended and same with Daniel De Silva's loan. So I will be without 3 of my best players heading into the final game of the group stage and the knockout rounds if I progress.
