the way it is going we could see most leagues/sports cancelling fixtures for a few weeks

IMO Italy have made the right call there are far bigger issues than football

IF it does result in the season being cancelled only see 2 options they go with the table/s as is or they void the season altogether lets hope it doesnt come to this but it may have too

Bah, just play the games behind closed doors if it comes to it.

Lot of scare mongering.

just found this on the official release from Italy-

''Under the new decree, people will only be able to travel between cities for emergency reasons and can face fines and up to three months in jail for breaking quarantine rules.''

dont think playing sport even footy falls into an emergency reason

over the next few days think we will see other nations/UEFA making some decisions IMO think Serie A etc will end up being void for 19/20 and you never know where it will end its a minefield now eg the lockdown kicks in today so Atalanta can play but will they be allowed to travel back into Italy

also-Roma and Inter all play in Europe this week (only Inter at home)

Juve Napoli Roma and Inter next week (2 games in Italy)

this is subject to change and can see other nations/uefa taking similar action if it gets worse and Italian clubs will be unable to complete their European fixtures so are their opponents given a bye? some big decisions to be made

but if you follow the logical conclusion also the country is in lockdown so clubs cant travel to any other venues too,

no Italian clubs should in theory be playing any games after today until 3/4/20 ? as it would mean they are travelling out of their region or clubs from outside Italy are coming to them

if its lockdown surely it means that, there will probably be clarification on this later today

Looks like serie a is going to be cancelled options being looked at

include staging play-offs, not having a champion for 2019-20 or declaring the current standings final.

So... leagues in Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, France, Denmark and the USA have been suspended along with the previous ones in Italy & Switzerland, with the Champions League & Europa League stopping games and Euro 2020 in severe risk of postponement, Arsenal's manager tested positive for the virus, Real Madrid have quarantined their entire squad, Juventus and 2nd tier German side Hannover have had players also test positive, Leicester and Man City have put players in self-isolation, and that's just today. Fuck me this is dreadful.

Its a worry the Premier League's initial call was to carry on as if nothing was wrong was the right one.

Not just football as well either, given the US basketball, multiple tennis tournaments, MotoGP, Formula E and others have cancelled events, as have film shoots, film premieres, concert tours and the rest. And that's not forgetting the utter clusterfuck that is the F1 race in Australia, which seems to be at the moment both going ahead and not going ahead.

The amount of potential income missed really tells the enormity of these decisions. Money usually trumps everything but now sports leagues and many other businesses around the world are forced to take a big hit because there are no other options. The joke that "when a nation like Italy cancels its football matches things are really severe" is actually a very serious truth.

All elite English football suspended until at least 3rd April.

Correct decision. Would rather the season be voided though for obvious reasons.

So, what have we found ourselves watching sports wise to fill this void? So far I have taken in up to fifteen minutes of snooker, bowls and bowling.

yes mate I am so glad I didnt lock in 12 month subs for Bein worked out slightly dearer paying monthly but worth it now

from what I have been told we are probably looking at a 4-6 month time period before we could see things get back to normal at this stage who knows more important issues than sport

BBC reporting both Euro 2020 and this summer's Copa America have both been postponed to 2021, with a football journo from The Independent tweeting that UEFA have June 27 as a provisional first date to reschedule the Champions League Final.

I can't help but feel that's too soon. Think it needs to be a July date to be on the safe side. His Tweet read "Good luck with that", which is I get the feeling what a lot of people must also be thinking.

yes indeed

reports are that the tv companies/sponsors are putting pressure on as they have committed a lot of money upfront and they will seek compensation if the comp isnt fulfilled by a set date(obviously this is out of UEFA's hands as who knows when anything gets back to normal)
so sounding like as always ££££££ is the driving force

yes seen that not surprised and who knows at this stage what will happen to the so called 'big' leagues

when it starts back do they complete this season and then for certain have the next season impacted on due to starting dates transfer windows contracts etc etc or even a vastly reduced league fixture programme for 20/21

cant see anything football wise getting back to 'normal' for months so its a big call to make my feeling is the powers that be want to complete this season no matter when that will be and then the 20/21 season could be virtually cut in half its doable but you wont play all teams home+away so it would be logistically hard to make that fair to all eg some EPL teams would play 10 home games out of 19 and some would get 9 but we will see hopefully soon enough but there are far bigger issues than football now

When do they expect to even finish the UCL & UEL?

Or even how? One legged ties rather than two?

they may not get finished, or if they do get played it should only happen when there is no threat to life via transmission so we are possibly months away from that in Europe in reality

That's the thing, if they delay it then it'll probably overlap next season's depending on when it starts.

Everything up in the air anyway. We'll not know a thing until at least end of July/August.

Initially I was for just deciding the season using the current tables, but I'm aware that would just annoy a lot of people and lead to a lot of further arguing to serve nobody that well, particularly from anyone relegated in a close fight.

My instinct is that they'll resume behind closed doors, possibly using neutral venues as was suggested, as the financial cost to both PL & EFL returning their TV money is enormous, maybe even ruinous in the case of a lot of lower league clubs. Whether that can happen before July is another matter, given both the fact the new cases needs to be significantly reduced and even when you're in a position to return, player fitness is going to be lacking.

There also needs to be some kind of meeting at a FIFA level to create better contingency plans in advance of another major disruptive event in future so we can see less of a sense of ad lib response.

From what I've heard and read, the closed doors matches are going to happen for a while, but we should be able to see normal matches by the end of the year. I mean, "closed" matches like that aren't really the same, but still, most of us watch it on TV anyways, and it beats a total halt on everything football related for months.
