Contract Bug?

I have a player who wanted a new contract in the summer but I could not afford the wage he wanted so he handed in a transfer request, bids came in for him only one of which met his minimum fee release clause and he was negotiating with them but it fell through. He now says he wants a new contact again and I would very much like to get him tied down and remove the minimum fee release clause but the game is not allowing me to offer him one.

Any ideas? A promise to offer him a new deal expires in two days so I would wish to get it sorted.
