Ajax and ten Hag have started this season is wonderful form, playing 10 games in the Eredivisie, winning 8, drawing 1 scoring an impressive 37 goals and only conceding 2. They've also performed very will in Europe, notably beating Dortmund in a very convincing 4-0 victory. In this video, we'll analyse their possession dominant tactic and create that in Football Manager 2022.
Ajax play what some people would say is a 4-3-3; however, ten Hag has used both a 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 so far this season. So far in the 2021-22 campaign, Ajax have used the 4-3-3 40% of the time and the 4-2-3-1 33% but the 4-3-3 shapes is very similar to the 4-2-3-1 in practice.
The single pivot in the 4-3-3 is usually joined by the left-sided midfielder (mostly Ryan Gravenberch) whilst the right-sided midfielder will play significantly higher up the pitch, closer to the front 3 resembling more of a 4-2-3-1.
