Installation Instructions

Step 1) Where to put Football Manager Graphics

Once you've downloaded a Football Manager Graphic Pack and extracted it you should be left with a single folder on your computer. You're going to need to move that folder into a special location where Football Manager can find it.

Apple: Where to put the FM Graphic Packs on Mac

You will need to copy the folder to this location:

/Users/<yourname>/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2022/graphics

You may find it difficult to find this exact location, to make it easier, use the following instructions:

a) Open Finder

b) Click “Go” from the menubar and select “Go to Folder” (alternatively press Shift+CMD+G)

c) Copy in the following: ~/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/

d) Open the “Football Manager 2022” folder

e) Open the “graphics” folder (or created it if it doesn't exist)

f) Move the downloaded files into the ”graphics" folder

Windows: Where to put the FM Graphic Packs on Windows

Simply move the folder to the following location:

Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2022/graphics

What if I don't have a graphics folder?

If you don't have a “graphics” folder simply create it 🙂

What if the downloaded files ends with .zip, .rar, .7z

If you have a file that ends in .zip, .rar or .7z then you'll need to extract the files before installing them. These files are called “archives” and are a way to compress a folder into a single file for downloading but you'll need to open them and get the folder that's in them before installing. DO NOT put these files in your graphics folder, it won't work.

Extract the files first and then put the extracted files into your graphics folder. If you're not sure how to extract them, look at these guides for windows or for mac.

What if the downloaded files are in parts e.g. “part01.rar”, “part02.rar” etc

If you have downloaded a pack in multiple parts ending in “part01.rar”, “part02.rar” etc then you do not have to extract them all individually. Just extract “part01.rar” and the rest should all be extracted automatically.

Step 2) How to refresh graphics in Football Manager

Unfortunately even though you have the folder in the right place Football Manager won't automatically pick up the new files. You're going to have to go in and tell Football Manager to reload your graphics.

Simply follow these instructions:

a) Open Football Manager

b) Click Preferences on the start screen (or if you're already in a game FM Logo > Preferences)

c) Click the “Advanced” tab

d) On the right hand side select “interface”

e) Scroll down the Skin Heading

f) Uncheck “Use caching to decrease page loading times”

g) Tick “Reload skin when confirming changes to preferences”

h) Click “Reload Skin”

And now your graphics should be appearing.

You should go back into the preferences and follow the same steps but this time tick “Use caching to decrease page loading times”, this will help with the long term performance of the game, but needed to be unticked to install these graphics.

@Derek the size seems to have increased alot from 1.4GB to 14.91GB

Is it just new files or are we lacking some optimisation when saving?

@Footygamer

Let me have a look at it and I’ll come back to you but the files are being optimised when saving. I’m just travelling for a couple of days but can look at it on Friday.

I’m not sure what the original logo count was but I agree it’s a big jump in file size despite the increased logo sizes to 512px. I didn’t use any of the logos from the previous pack due to this.

I’ll do my best to get it down in size and I’ll touch base with Murray also to get his opinion.

@Footygamer  I actually had a chance to look at this mate before heading off.

Based on the information on the previous pack in the download section heres a comparison between the two packs.

FMV Logos 21 - 58,396 total logos.

Approx 19,465 images at max size 225px. 206px actual logo size if you exclude the empty space around the logos.

FMV Logos 22 - 223,389 total logos.

Approx 74,463 images at max size 512px. No space around logos.

When comparing the packs and with other megapacks it's not just a case of looking at the number of files but also the size of each logo as this makes a huge difference to the overall file size.

In terms of optimising I generally merge any layers when finished the logo (if necessary depending on the style) and then export → save for web → png-24 and use Bicubic Sharper as a quality setting. This is the lowest option I'm comfortable with because if I use anything lower such as png-8 I lose a lot of quality, particularly around edges. I use this method of exporting for web as its resulted in the lowest file size compared to simply saving the file normally as a png file.

I've had a chat with Murray about how we prepare the logos and it is exactly the same apart from the logo size and the empty space being removed in my version.

However, I'd absolutely love to get the file sizes for this style and our other megapacks down and would appreciate any suggestions or help you guys could give.

They can definitely be improved, if you take the Watford logo as an example and stick it through https://tinypng.com/ it drops by a whopping 68% from 107.5kb to 33.9kb

If we can drop it 68% from 15gb to 5gb that would be a big improvement.

I bet you can't even tell which is which after either

I can run compression on them, but the compression I run on the cut out faces meant they stopped working on older versions of the game which is annoying.

@Footygamer  I was able to find a TinyPNG plugin for photoshop which seems to be working great so far.

I'll run this with all the logos and see what we end up with. Thanks as always for the help mate.

So I compressed it all down from 15GB to 2.8GB yesterday and I think it's okay.

But I did spot a few that are bad before compression.

The compression can be done online by server, which is the best if you want anyone to contribute because they won't all need the Tinypng plugin.

Or if you're sure you're going to do every image yourself then I guess it would be fine to just use the photoshop plugin.

You might also want to double check how the Tinypng plugin works, it might be making a request to the website everytime.

If you try and run it against 220,000 images and it takes 1 second for each it's going to take 2.5 days.

I'll have a look and see what I can spot in the pack and fix them before compressing but we will obviously work to improve the quality of the packs over time, particularly the lower level teams.

I haven't had the chance to use the Tinypng plugin on the actual pack yet but I did a trial run with it on a test folder of 250 logos and it took just over a minute. However, what I've noticed with photoshop batching in the latest version is that it's slows up pretty badly around the 10,000 logo mark.

Can I ask is it a plugin you're using for the site to compress the files?

No, I don't even own Photoshop 😀 It's all scripts using something called PNGQuant

Running it on the server means I can just set it running and not think about it rather than faffing about on my own computer.

It appears to be missing - unless I'm missing something! The link from FMG takes me to a link in the SortItOutSI downloads section, but when you click on the 7.7gb file entry, no download link appears in the mirrors list. Any help would be much appreciated!

I'll re-upload the pack on FMG now mate and let you know when it's ready over there. I'll let Footygamer know the file is down here and we will get that sorted too.

I can't download the FM2022 logo packs. Let me explain. It's the biggest file that's the problem. The first. The download starts but 2 minutes after the download ends. This is the same for the FMG Standard Logos and FMG Logos packs. How to do ? You can help me ? Thanks. Sorry for my English I am French.
