Udinese Calcio

Ciao all… if not nothing more than a means for me to track my own vcareer, I have taken control of Udinese Calcio in a hope to bring them a bit of success! Whilst being farily well known, not least due to their success in the early 10's and Watford, Udinese are a club whos trophy cabinet dissapoints. With nothing to show, I hope to finally win something with Udinese and be the first to do so.

A club which has had their fair share of top players, a selection of which are pictured above.

However I wont be playing the save in a traditional way and will try to impose some rules on myself to make the save a bit more intersting and realistic:

  • No purchasing of wonderkids. Whether they are wonderkid by media description or listed as wonderkids on any well known lists, I will avoid signing these players to prevent me winning the champions league at a canter with a Sesko-Moukoko front line… not only is it unrealistic, it is boring.
  • Wage cap of €50,000 p/w. My current highest paid player is Thauvin on €41,500 p/w and this will again add realism and will also mean I may not be able to retain my best players, forcing me to be creative.
  • Using the existing youth. Udinese haven't realy ever produced much homegrown talent, instead using the transfer market to their benefit. Alex Meret is the only player I can currently think of who has gone on to be a success in the modern game. Udinese's greatest ever player, Di Natale, played for Udinese for 16 years and basically had a 1 in 2 ratio… however was not homegrown. If i can bring through some players who may not be tipped to be world beaters and develop them I will be happy.
  • Use older players. An element of calcio has always been the use of players deemed past it by other leagues, so signing some over 30's who represent good value for Udinese will also help keep the save a bit different.
  • Maximum transfer fee of €10,000,000. Keeping in line with the ethos of the save, splashing out tons on players isnt going to be something I'll look to do… better vakue can be had for les money.
  • Finally, capture a bit of what made Udinese the team they were in the early 2010's. For a couple of years they were ateam with a bunch of semi-unknown players, such as Badu, Asamoah, Armero, Inler, Pinzi, Basta, Vydra… players who weren't particualry highly regarded and made for a bit of an odd team. Scouting well in unusual places will allow us to build a team like this.

Club Background

Financially, we are ok. €7,000,000 in the bank with a positive forecast, i will be keen to keep this outlook positive. It doesn't look likely we will every build a huge transfer budget and I assume our percentage of profti will drop at some point this season however this is what I want, tens and tens of millions to spend wont test us.
