Terzić's Dortmund 4231/4141 FM23 Tactics!

Borussia Dortmund has favoured a 4-2-3-1 throughout 2022–2023, although they are adaptable enough to give each of their mavericks a chance to play. After Reus's recovery from an injury in 2023, it has been even more challenging to integrate Brandt, Reus, and Bellingham into the same system because all three players essentially play as "number 10s" while they are on the field.

Borussia Dortmund typically uses a 3+1 formation to build out from the back, with the '6' dropping in between or to the left of the center-backs. Then, in order to make room for "up-back-and-throughs," they advance by placing others between the lines or floating around.

When the full-backs retain their width, Julian Brandt, Jude Bellingham, and Marco Reus may all go towards the ball at various points to receive. Because he prefers to invert higher on the field, Raphael Guerreiro benefits from having the more direct winger on his side.
