Football Manager 2024 is all about strategy, both on and off the pitch. Signing top-tier players or wonderkids often requires going beyond simple transfer bids. When a club is unwilling to sell a player or demands astronomical fees, you can employ subtle tactics to unsettle them. This guide provides a two-part breakdown: first, when targeting a player at another club, and second, when managing your own players to prevent disruption.
When you’ve identified a must-sign player, follow these steps to influence the situation in your favor:
Assign Scouts
Before making any move, send scouts to watch the player. Assign a trusted scout to track the player for an extended period, ensuring thorough reports and detailed knowledge. This scouting activity will likely attract media attention, potentially getting the player to notice your club’s interest.
Attend Their Matches
Take things a step further by attending one of the player’s matches. Your presence in the stands will be noticed by journalists and potentially spark rumors. The player might feel flattered by your direct interest, increasing their willingness to join.
Go to targeted player’s Club > Schedule > Select the Match you want to attend > Attend Match
Declare Interest Publicly
Navigate to the player’s profile and select ‘Add as Transfer Target’ and set them as a Top Target. When asked about your interest in press conferences, praise the player but avoid mentioning your readiness to break the bank. Subtle public admiration can sow seeds of discontent at their current club.
Make Incremental Bids
Start making transfer bids, but keep them reasonable yet slightly below the player’s valuation. Repeated bids, even if rejected, signal your seriousness. Over time, the player may grow frustrated if their club refuses to negotiate, potentially leading them to request a transfer.
Shift Blame to Their Club
When your bids are rejected, use media interactions to hint that the selling club is being unreasonable. For example, emphasize your desire to bring the player in while blaming their club for obstructing the move. This tactic can pressure both the club and the player.
Enlist Star Player Influence
Leverage relationships within your squad. If you have a player who shares nationality, former clubs, or a friendship with the target, ask them to publicly endorse your interest. Players often trust their peers, and this strategy can make your target more eager to join.
