With this Out-of-Possession role the Wide Covering Defensive Midfielder is asked to provide defensive support in wide areas, moving across from his typical position to help his team defend against wide threats. This means that when the opposition attack the flanks on his side, instead of protecting central areas more like a traditional Defensive Midfielder, he will look to shift across and support his Full-Back, often doubling up on the opposition's wide attacking threats.
You’ll notice the Wide Covering Defensive Midfielder role applies across the pitch but when the team is pushed deep, the player tends to protect the central areas more. Works best paired with a Wide Outlet Winger, covering up for him and mantaining the defensive balance.

- Supports full-backs defensively when no winger tracks back.
- Doubles up against wide threats to prevent overloads.
- Can leave central gaps when drawn out wide.
