Player comparison in FM26 is a useful but more limited tool than in previous versions of the game. You can only compare a player with someone from your own squad or a player you have added to your shortlist. This means that if you want to analyse a potential signing properly, you must shortlist and get a scout report on them first.

The comparison screen helps you quickly see who fits your tactics better, who is the stronger option for a specific role, and whether a transfer target is actually an upgrade on what you already have. Once you open the tool, the game offers five different comparison types, each highlighting a different part of a player’s profile.

How to Compare Two Players

  • From Search head to the Player Profile you want to Compare
  • Click on Comparison

A pop-up will open where you:

  • Click Select
  • Choose between a player of Your Squad or from your Shortlist

Now the Comparison shows you 5 different types of comparisons:

  • Overview
  • Attributes
  • Statistics
  • Positions & Roles
  • Report

Overview

The Overview tab gives a quick snapshot of both players side by side.

It  includes:

  • Best roles for each player
  • Coach report summaries (number of pros & cons and star ratings)
  • Preferred foot and height
  • A radar chart comparing broad attribute groups such as Attacking, Technical, Vision, Mental, Physical and Speed

Use this tab for a quick first impression of which player fits your tactics better and what the general strengths of each player are.

Attributes

The Attributes tab breaks down every technical, mental and physical attribute.

Each attribute is shown side by side in a horizontal bar format so you can see:

  • Where one player is clearly stronger
  • Where the gap between the two players is small or big
  • How they compare within each category (Technical, Set Pieces, Mental, Physical)

At the bottom you also see:

  • Technical average
  • Mental average
  • Physical average
  • Set pieces average

This makes it very easy to find out who is better suited to a specific role or playing style.

If you are choosing between two players for the same position, this is the most important comparison.

Statistics

The Statistics tab shows performance data instead of attributes.

Competition Stats

This section shows:

  • Total appearances
  • Goals
  • Assists
  • Cards
  • Player of the Match awards

This helps you compare real match output.

Stats per 90 minutes

This is the more useful section. It includes:

  • Goals per 90
  • Assists per 90
  • Key passes per 90
  • Pass completion
  • Shots on target ratio
  • Tackles won per 90
  • Tackle completion
  • Distance covered
  • Average rating

Per 90 stats give you a fair comparison even if one player plays fewer minutes.

Use this tab to see who performs better in matches, not just on paper.

Positions & Roles

This tab compares how each player fits into different positions and roles.

It shows:

  • Which positions they are natural or competent in
  • Star ratings for each role in the selected position
  • A positional map showing the suitability of each player
  • Role star comparisons such as Inside Forward, Winger, Playmaking Winger, etc

This tab is especially useful when:

  • You want to know who should play a specific role
  • You want to convert a player to a new position
  • You want to check if a transfer target fits your system before signing them

If two players have similar attributes, this tab often decides who fits your tactic better.

Report

The Report tab shows your staff’s evaluation of the player.

For each player you see:

  • Pros and cons
  • Current ability and potential ability star ratings
  • Match personality notes
  • Squad status or suitability

This is more subjective compared to the Attributes or Statistics tabs. It blends scouting knowledge with real match performance.

Use this tab for long term squad planning rather than match day decisions. Don't forget to ask for a Scout Report first otherwise the player report would be empty.
