Selling players in Football Manager 26 is a core part of squad building. Whether you are clearing out deadwood, freeing up wages, or raising funds for new signings, understanding how the selling system works will make your saves smoother and more successful. FM26 introduces a few changes and tools that give you more control, but also more responsibility, over how players leave your club.
This guide walks through the main methods of selling players and when to use each one:
Transfer Listing a Player
The most common and straightforward way to sell a player is to transfer list them.

To do this:
- Go to Squad and select First Team
- Click on the player
- Open the Actions menu
- Go to Transfer
- Select Set Transfer Status and choose Transfer Listed

You can then set an asking price or allow the club to negotiate freely. For players with good form, reputation, or reasonable wages, this is often enough to attract interest. Offers will arrive in your inbox, where you can accept, reject, or negotiate.
💡 Be aware that transfer listing a player can sometimes reduce their perceived value, especially if it is obvious they are surplus to requirements.
Using the Transfer Room Out
FM26 introduces the Transfer Room, which is a more targeted way of selling players.

Transfer Room Out shows clubs that are actively looking for specific positions or squad roles. If one of your players matches their needs, you can offer them directly to that club.

This approach works well because:
- You are targeting clubs that already want that type of player
- It feels more realistic than mass offering players
- It can lead to quicker and more relevant offers
💡 It is especially effective for squad players and role players rather than star names.
Hiring an Intermediary
When a player attracts little or no interest, hiring an intermediary can be the fastest solution.

An intermediary acts as a middleman who uses their contacts to find potential buyers. You pay them a percentage of the final transfer fee if a deal is completed.
To hire one:
- Open the player profile
- Go to Actions
- Hover over Transfer
- Select Hire an Intermediary to Sell Player

You will be given several options, each with different:
- Timeframes
- Expected transfer values
- Fee percentages
💡 Intermediaries are ideal for offloading unwanted, overpaid, or difficult-to-sell players. They are not guaranteed to work, but they often succeed where normal transfer listing fails.
Selling Players Through Loans
Sometimes the best way to sell a player is not to sell them immediately.
Loaning a player out can:
- Reduce your wage bill
- Increase their match sharpness and form
- Improve their market value
💡 You can include optional or mandatory future fees in loan deals, which can effectively turn a loan into a delayed transfer. This is particularly useful for younger players or those returning from injury.
Negotiating Smartly
When offers arrive, take time to negotiate properly.
Key things to consider:
- Sell on clauses for younger players
- Installment payments to improve cash flow
- Wage contribution savings
- Performance bonuses
💡 Do not be afraid to counter offer. In FM26, clubs are generally more willing to negotiate than in earlier versions.
Timing Matters
The transfer window timeline plays a big role in selling players:
- Early in the window, clubs have money and are more selective
- Late in the window, desperate buyers may overpay
- Free agents will lower their wage demands after the window closes
💡 If a sale is not urgent, patience can lead to better deals.
