Finding players with release clauses in Football Manager 26 can be a game-changing strategy for building a competitive squad. Release clauses allow you to sign players for a fixed, predetermined fee, often below their true market value and avoiding lengthy negotiations and bidding wars.
However, compared to FM24, identifying release clauses in FM26 is less straightforward, especially when using the Recruitment Player Database.
How to Use the Recruitment Player Database
One of the most effective ways to search for release clauses in FM26 is through the Player Database under Recruitment is using filters:
Navigate to the Player Database:
- Go to Recruitment → Player Database
Set Up a New Search:
- Click on Edit Search
- Select Add Condition > Contract > Clauses (Release) > Minimum Fee Release Clause and set a value of your choice, too see everyone with a Release Clause set Is At Least > £1.000
- You can add up any criteria you want, like age, position, specific attributes

⚠️ In FM26, the Player Database no longer includes a “Minimum Fee Release Clause” column, which makes searching a little more difficult. You now have to open each player’s profile to see the clause value, instead of having a clear overview directly in the database.
How to Use the Squad Page
When visiting a team's squad you can actually add the “Minimum Fee Release Clause” column (don't know if they forgot to put it on Players Database or if they forgot to deactivate it on Squad View)
Navigate to any Team Squad
- Search or click a team and head to the Players section

Add the Relevant Column:
- Right-click on the table header (any column)
- Select Insert Column > Contract > Clauses (Release)
- Minimum Fee Release Clause

How to Use the Contract Page
As mentioned before another reliable way to find release clauses in Football Manager 26 is by checking the Contract Page of individual players.
Search for Specific Players:
- If you have a player in mind, check their contract details by clicking on their profile.
- Head to Personal Tab
- Check Contract Tile

💡 Tip: Check 🇪🇸 Spanish Leagues
Spanish football regulations stipulate that every professional player contract must include a release clause. Although elite players, like those at Barcelona, Real Madrid, or Atlético Madrid, often have astronomical release clauses to deter potential suitors, Mid-table and lower-tier clubs, however, may include much more affordable clauses due to budget constraints, making these players prime targets for savvy managers.
