We’ve already covered how to search for players, so now it’s time to focus on what comes next: actually signing them. This is where deals are won or lost, and where smart decisions can make a huge difference to your squad.
Doing Your Homework

Before making any offer, we should take a moment to properly assess the player:
- Scout reports → Strengths, weaknesses, consistency
- Injury history → Any long-term risks
- Contract situation → Expiring deals can mean bargains
- Squad role expectations → Will they accept their place in the team?
💡 We might find the perfect player technically, but if their expectations don’t match our squad, the deal can quickly fall apart.
Talk to Player's Agent

This is one of the most important habits we can build.
- Right-click → Ask Agent About Availability
This gives us:
- Expected wages
- Rough transfer fee
- Player’s interest level
💡 This step saves us from chasing unrealistic deals and helps us plan properly.
Making the Transfer Offer

Once we’re ready, we submit an offer. Key parts of a deal:
- Upfront fee
- Installments
- Add-ons (bonuses, appearances, goals)
- Clauses (sell-on %, buy-back)
💡 Instead of increasing the fee outright, we can structure deals creatively to stay within budget.
Negotiating the Deal

Negotiation is more flexible in FM26, but still requires patience.
- Clubs will counter more often
- We’ll need to adjust offers carefully
What we should focus on:
- Don’t accept the first counter
- Adjust the structure, not just the total
- Remove unnecessary clauses
💡 Often, we can reach a deal by spreading payments rather than increasing the price.
Contract Negotiations

Once the club accepts, we negotiate with the player. Key elements:
- Wages
- Signing bonus
- Agent fee
- Squad role
- Contract length
💡 If wages are too high, we can:
- Lower them
- Compensate with bonuses
Timing Our Moves
Timing plays a huge role in transfers.
Early in the window:
- Higher fees
- Higher wage demands
Later in the window:
- Prices drop
- Free agents become cheaper
💡 If we’re patient, we can often get much better deals.
Using Loans Strategically
Loans can be a powerful tool when buying players.
- Optional future fee → Low risk
- Mandatory future fee → Delayed purchase
- Wage contributions → Cost control
💡 This is especially useful when we’re working with limited budgets.
Managing Our Budget
We always need to balance:
- Transfer budget
- Wage budget
Sometimes, we’ll need to:
- Sell players first
- Restructure deals
- Adjust budgets
💡 Smart deal structuring lets us sign better players than our budget suggests.
