I finally bit the bullet and bought a Blu-Ray player for £55. My first purchase was The Pacific boxset for £12 - I've only watched the first episode but it looks fucking stunning. Going to order some films tonight.

I just download Blu-Ray films and transfer them to that, it auto downloads the metadata (covers, info etc) making it all look lovely when scrolling through your files on your tv. I've had one a couple of years now and its probably one of the best purchases ive ever made.

I'm really not that fussed about getting a next generation console until more games come out. The Blu Ray player only cost me £50 and if I end up getting a PS4 in a year or so I'll still have gotten my money's worth.

Meh, sounds pretty cool but all I really needed was something that plays Blu Rays and that's it.

Whilst we're on the subject, are there any essential Blu Rays anyone would recommend getting? As in ones that are especially beautiful in terms of visuals and sound in that format?

Amazon have a deal at the moment where you can get three Blu Rays for £17 so I got six for £34. There were a fair few I could choose from but I went for 50/50, Bladerunner, Boogie Nights, City Of God, Inception and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
