Because he'll be added to the editor in the January update I tried cutting him.

http://s2.postimage.org/qmxn466kl/Beane.png

I don't think it's a good start and I can't refine the edges at all, his hair annoying. But here's my first go at a cut. What do you guys think?

Have a look for an early version of photoshop, i still use 7.0 and its very old compared to what out now, im guessing its cheap and the extract tool work great for cutouts.

Billy Beane

Btw i hope its not a con? and this fella will get an id in the new database, one for Mons to save..

Saved him in anticipation. What're you reckoning could be a con?

garyh-

Billy Bean has joined the back-room of the San Jose Earthquakes as a consultant, I'd be surprised if that warrants an FM inclusion, but I believe FuriousP is an FM-USA researcher, so I assume he's right
Great news!!!

It seems for now anyway, you can download the full version of Adobe CS2 see this Blog post. HERE

Yes, it's old, but it's still excellent for cut-outs.
what size do i need to scale an image to for the face pack?
and once i've cut it, how do i save/convert it to the right file type to put in the game?
I decided to give cutting another go. I downloaded the free version of cs2 Photoshop.

What do you guys think? It's obviously not perfect i know. One thing i have not been able to figure out is how to cut out the image so there is no background to speak of. I cut out the image, but it always has a white backround, so i end up having to cut it out using the wand on paint.net, where as the wand in Photoshop does nothing for, and the white background remains,

Any tips for anything at all would be well appreciated, i would like to get good at this and help out.
Still a bit of work to do there mate, persevere though. Watch my Tutorial on Basic eraser technique HERE And have a look at the CS2 Extract Filter Tutorial HERE

Combine the two techniques (Along with transparency change HERE and snow removal video HERE) and you'll be there

File -> Save As...
From the "Format" drop down list choose PNG,untick "As a copy",tick "Use Lower Case Extension"
"PNG Options" box will pop up,check Compression Smallest/Slow and Interlace None
i'm trying to do a cut out of Mattia Perin. This is what i've got so far.

http://s12.postimage.org/5laklhbgp/perin.jpg

Any tips on how best to finish off the hair? Also how do i tilt the head so it's straight?

I'm using GIMP
I think only blackmetalboom can help you about Gimp,as he showed here pretty good stuff considering the fact that Photoshop is way more powerful than Gimp. You have loads of Gimp tutorials on Youtube, just type "gimp hair" or anything you wanna know about it.It's difficult to communicate in this way if you're complete beginner.

I use Paint.Net, not GIMP so I won't be much help with it.

It may be worth checking out what "Plug-in's" are available for it as there may be an extration type tool available. The Plug-in that I use for Paint.Net allows you to turn a selected colour transparent, which is brilliant for getting rid of plain background, so might be worth looking for a tool which would do a simular thing.
my first ever cut. is there anything else i can do to improve my cutting?

That's really quite good for a first cut. Well done

I'm not sure what program and technique you used to cut that image. Back when I had the time to cut, I personally found Refine Edge on CS5 to serve my cutting needs. There's a tutorial in the OP, if you want to give that a shot.

Allow me, moreover, to suggest a few things which would improve your cuts. First of all, I personally prefer my cuts to be a bit more bright, so I brightened your cut a little bit.

Secondly I zoomed in on your cut, as there appeared to be some flecks of snow on the edges, partly as a result of the glare of the sun on the guy's hair-edges.

http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u344/maltamons/initialcut.png~original

You might think it tremendously minor, but when you look at cuts which have snow, on a dark background they jump out at you and it really improves a cut to remove the snow. Ideally, you don't have the snow in the first place, but if you finish your cut and find some rogue snowy spots, then you can use this quick technique (short YouTube tutorial) to disguise them.

http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u344/maltamons/afterediting.png~original

This is the final cut after my "treatment": http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u344/maltamons/WDO00Uo.png~original

What is the player's ID so I can compare him with any existing cut in the MP for possible inclusion?

Despite the long write-up, it's really not that big a deal and it took me only about a minute to "fix". It really doesn't take a lot of work to correct these small issues.

I hope you take this in the constructive spirit in which it is intended - hope we see more of your work soon

yeah i didn't use the black background action to check as soon as i ran it through the black its noticeable

Will give it another shot later after watching the tutorials in a bit

thanks

edit - don't think he has an UID it's Takashi Usami of Hoffenheim who isn't in the original DB

I'll add him to my no-IDs folder then.

To start off with an easier cut, try to find a source with a plain background. There's plenty in some of the requests in the teampack request thread, including some of mine
what size do you have to make the small icon's that appear in the name search?

I believe it's 18x20, but you do not have to produce them yourself for the purposes of addition to the megapack, as our site owner Rob has created a system whereby icons of all the cuts in each megapack update are created automatically and made available for download...
okay thanks i'll bare that in mind

I recommend that you use Photoshop CS5 and use the Refine Edge tool, of which technique there is a tutorial in this very thread's opening post.
My first cut out! I am quite new and have never done it. I think that it pretty well just now I have a question, I gimp2 use to edit and now I get this image is not in 180x180 because that is the right size for in FM? Who can explain to me how I can change this! or does it not matter for at, football manager and altered it yourself

They look good. There is a blue tint to them, but I'm sure that is from the original source photo's, but might be worth tweaking the colour slightly to try to get rid of it.

The only other things I would recommend is maybe rotating Cole's image slightly so it is straight (it is best to do this before cutting/resizing) and adding more to Sturridge's shoulders so they don't stop suddenly.
Hi

I did this Chris Hughton one because I had the old one of him in the yellow Norwich shirt and the boxed off shoulders were doing my head in.
I'm not sure if it's a good start, but I was quite proud of it.

Posting it in here to see if the clean-up squad can give me any advice, and then I might post it in the Alt. image thread...(?)

Are the edges too sharp?

«This comment has been edited»
[Hmmm... what goes here?]
The edges are a bit too sharp and I would generally recommend that you include as little below the chin and above the head as possible, in order to give prominence to the face.

But it's not a bad start at all!

Thanks! And I thought as much.
Do you have any tips about reducing the sharpness of the edges? Blur tool?
