Man City reach second ever UCL semi final as PSG cruise to their first

https://i.ibb.co/6D95Y0G/de-bruyne-mci-whu-1920.png

Man City were made to sweat for a place in their second ever Champions League semi final but prevailed thanks to goals from talismen Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero.

Heading into the second leg with Leipzig, they knew that a win would send them through and the comfort of two away goals from the first leg had given them some breathing room. Any nerves from the home fans at The Etihad were quickly calmed as De Bruyne stepped up to take a free kick on the edge of the area after just 17 minutes and duly popped it up and over the wall and into the back of the Leipzig net.

Aguero doubled their lead just after the half hour mark helped by some sloppy play by Leipzig as they looked to play out of the back, instead handing the ball straight to Ilkay Gundogan who took full advantage to slip in Aguero. The Argentine made no mistake in doubling the hosts lead, knocking the ball past the charging goalkeeper and slotting into an open net.

There would be a moment of panic for the home side late on as Timo Werner capitalised on a scramble in the City box from a corner to momentarily give the German side a glimmer of hope. However, City kept the ball for the remaining few minutes without alarm to progress to the last four of the competition, a feat they have only achieved once before when they lost 1-0 on aggregate to eventual champions Real Madrid in 2016.

They will play Bayern Munich in the semi finals after the German champions needed extra time to beat Lyon away from home in a game that saw Benjamin Pavard sent off for a reckless challenge on Martin Terrier in the first half.

Robert Lewandowski had levelled things on aggregate inside five minutes after a Cruyff turn gave him space on the edge of the box to unleash a powerful left footed strike beyond the goalkeeper.

The sending off rather evened things out and neither side looked like throwing caution to the wind as the prospect of extra time soon became a reality. The deciding goal would come just minutes into the extra period, substitute Philippe Coutinho cleverly dropping a shoulder to turn his marker before finding the back of the net with a deadly accurate shot to the far corner.

Things were much more straightforward for five-time winners Barcelona as they dumped out the last remaining Italian side Atalanta with a 4-1 victory at the Nou Camp. Goals from Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann settled the tie within half an hour, although Josip Ilicic's goal on the stroke of half time gave the travelling supporters something to shout about.

Dreams of a magical comeback were quickly squashed after the break as Arthur Melo made it 7-2 on aggregate to ensure the European giants would make the semi finals for the second year running.

PSG will be their opponents after stunning Atletico Madrid with a comprehensive 3-0 victory in the Spanish capital to reach their first ever Champions League semi final.

With little goalmouth action for the majority of the first half, two back heels in the build up allowed Angel Di Maria to run free into the box with seconds to go before the half time whistle. His low shot was saved but the rebound fell kindly for Mauro Icardi who made no mistake in giving PSG the lead. Edinson Cavani, saviour in the first leg, then popped up with two goals in the second half to silence the home crowd and hand his side a place in the last four, an achievement that's alluded them despite the involvement of Qatari investors since 2011.

Neither PSG or Man City have ever made a Champions League final but both could feature in the main event on 30 May, although they will have to get past two teams that between them have won Europe's elite competition 10 times and reached 18 finals.

Leverkusen surprise Inter, United earn crucial away goal

https://i.ibb.co/Q9mW25x/b04-1819-weiser-havertz-1920.png

All four Europa League ties are still up for grabs following the first leg matches, although Inter Milan will have to overcome a two goal deficit in Germany if they are to qualify after being beaten by Leverkusen on home soil.

Kai Havertz scored one of the goals of the season to take the lead on 11 minutes, picking up the ball just inside the Inter half before running at the Inter defence. His sharp cut inside made space for a shot from 25 yards out which curled into the top corner with what seemed like minimum effort.

Inter dominated the majority of the game but were again undone at the back midway through the second half. Moussa Diaby played a neat one-two with Charles Aranguiz giving him space in the box before shooting low and to the right of the goalkeeper's right hand and into the back of the net.

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw against Basel but grabbed a crucial away goal thanks to Mason Greenwood's quick thinking after having the rebound of his own shot fall to his feet inside the box. Samuele Campo ensured that Basel were very much still in this tie at the half way stage, unleashing a half volley that left David De Gea with no chance of stopping it.

Istanbul Basaksehir provided somewhat of a shock in Greece as they beat Olympiakos 1-0 to hold a valuable lead heading back to Turkey. Eljero Elia scored the crucial away goal from a brilliant lone breakaway that saw his speed completely outpace the Olympiakos defence before keeping his composure to slot into the corner.

Sevilla will feel they could have won by more at home to Shakhtar Donetsk but will have to settle for a slender 1-0 advantage heading into the second leg. They wasted a golden opportunity from the spot after VAR was called on for a handball shout, Ever Banega getting underneath his penalty kick and sending it into the crowd. Luuk De Jong's header from a corner proved to be a match winner and they will feel confident heading to Ukraine in a week's time.

Messi hat trick lights up Quarter Final first leg

https://i.ibb.co/rk7ZDvz/messi-free-kick.jpg

Lionel Messi, as he so often does, stole the show during the first round of Quarter Final matches by scoring a superb hat trick to put Barcelona in firm control of their tie with Italian side Atalanta.

The Argentine maestro scored two brilliant free kicks, the second of which came from 30 yards out, to ensure the Spanish giants travel back to the Nou Camp with a healthy advantage and three away goals.

Josip Ilicic had given the home side a glimmer of hope in response to Messi's two first half goals but when Messi lined up a free kick 30 yards out with just over an hour on the clock and curled it beyond the goalkeeper you felt that was the tie done and dusted.

In Munich there was a major shock as Juventus' conquerers Lyon beat Bayern Munich 1-0 thanks to a 57th minute winner from Moussa Dembele.

Lyon had to soak up some serious pressure for the full 90 minutes with Bayern dominating possession but creating very little against a resolute defensive set up. The visitors relied on counter attacks and it eventually paid off, Dembele finding space inside the box before slotting beyond Manuel Neuer.

Meanwhile, PSG and Atletico Madrid and Leipzig and Man City played out thoroughly entertaining 2-2 draws. In Paris, PSG had to come back from 2-0 down to give them hope of progressing to the semi final in Madrid in a week's time. Joao Felix cut inside and curled a perfect shot into the far corner to open the scoring just before half time before substitute Diego Costa headed in a Kieran Trippier corner to double the advantage.

The introduction of Edison Cavani from the bench changed the momentum of the tie, however, as the striker reacted quickest to Kylian Mbappe's parried shot to half the deficit. Drama soon followed as Cavani thought he had scored the equaliser with just minutes to go only to see it ruled out for offside by VAR. With seconds remaining he did get the equaliser, though, thanks to some neat play by Neymar and Marco Verratti opening up the Atletico defence for him to slam the ball home.

It was a topsy-turvy match between Leipzig and Man City which saw the two star strikers steal the show with a brace apiece. Timo Werner twice put the hosts ahead but Sergio Aguero responded each time, the second coming with just eight minutes left on the clock to set up a mouthwatering second leg in Manchester.

Portsmouth win back-to-back Wembley finals

https://i.ibb.co/whS30xF/harness-portsmouth.jpg

Portsmouth secured back-to-back EFL Trophy titles with a hard fought but deserved 1-0 victory over Salford City at Wembley.

The reigning champs, who beat Sunderland on penalties last year, were in control for the majority of the match but were made to wait until the 76th minute before breaking the deadlock.

It was a goal worth waiting for, though, as Marcus Harness lashed home a ferocious first time volley after Kyle Letheren was forced into a diving punch by James Bolton's wicked cross from the right.

Portsmouth had the majority of possession and chances throughout the game, two of which fell to striker John Marquis who failed to hit the target from close range.

Salford looked to try and break on the counter attack but were met by a solid Portsmouth defence on most occasions. Their best chance fell to Brandon Thomas-Asante just before half time as he struck a half volley inches wide of the top corner.

Portsmouth have now won three titles in four years after winning the League Two title in 2017 and will now be looking to break into the League One play-off places over the remaining two months of the season.

Wycombe jumped up two places into third whilst Fleetwood Town dropped two places in the play-off battle and the biggest mover was Bristol Rovers who edged into the top ten with six points from a possible six. Bolton and Southend played out one of the worst games of the season, as you might expect, with a 0-0 draw, but Bolton have now closed the gap to Southend to one point, even after their 12 point deduction at the start of the season.

FA Cup Quarter Finals

Leicester knock out Chelsea as three 'big guns' remain

https://i.ibb.co/q9zf24p/goal-jamie-vardy-cropped-163e9o590sec610syhgzocvx9s.jpg

It was a rather one-sided set of results in the quarter finals of the FA Cup as Leicester City, both Manchester sides and Arsenal all kept clean sheets to progress to the semi final stage of the competition.

The first game of the weekend saw the third and fourth placed sides in the Premier League, Leicester City and Chelsea, do battle at the King Power Stadium. Rather surprisingly, the away side provided very little quality throughout the 90 minutes and succumbed to two first half goals from the hosts: first Jamie Vardy from the spot and then James Maddison on the stroke the half time whistle.

Newcastle United hosted holders Man City but, despite generating several golden opportunities to score, were unable to find the back of the net as Sergio Aguero proved the difference maker with his deadly finishing sealing victory with two first half goals.

On Sunday, Arsenal visited the resolute Sheffield United under bright sunshine at Bramall Lane and it would be the visitors basking in glory come the full time whistle thanks to a blistering start that saw Chris Basham head into his own net inside three minutes and Mesut Ozil bend one into the far corner 15 minutes later.

The quarter finals were wrapped up by a rampant Manchester United who had Bruno Fernandes on top form against Premier League strugglers Norwich City. The Portuguese star found the net twice whilst Fred also found himself on the scoresheet to set up a mouth watering clash with Arsenal in the semi final.

Between Arsenal and Manchester United they have lifted the FA Cup 25 times, whilst Man City are the reigning champions and have won it six times in total. Leicester City have never won the FA Cup but will hoping to reach their fifth final and set the record straight.

Barcelona sneak late winner as Juventus are dumped out

https://i.ibb.co/8cL8PtV/1583614670-087907-1583618510-noticia-normal.jpg

Barcelona avoided a potential exit in extra time thanks to a last gasp goal from fullback Jordi Alba to knock out Napoli 3-2 on aggregate at the Nou Camp.

Napoli had taken the lead through Arkadiusz Milik in the first half but Luis Suarez put Barcelona level before his last minute effort bounced back off the post and into the path of Alba who couldn't miss from only a couple of yards out.

Elsewhere, two-time winners Juventus were dumped out of the competition after being held to a goalless draw by Lyon in Turin. The French side took a 1-0 lead going into the second leg and were able to stay strong at the back despite being under heavy pressure for large periods of the game to book their place in the quarter finals for the first time since 2010.

There was another goalless draw in Manchester as City made use of their 2-1 lead from the first leg with Real Madrid and shut up shop at The Etihad.

The final team to complete the quarter final line up was Bayern Munich, who trounced Chelsea 4-0 on aggregate following a 1-0 victory at home.

Wolves knocked out on away goals by dramatic late equaliser

https://i.ibb.co/PmnDHXH/2862615.jpg

It was heartbreak for Wolverhampton Wanderers as they conceded a dramatic late equaliser to Olympiakos, mirroring scenes at The Emirates in the previous round, to go out of the competition on away goals.

Olympiakos had taken the lead in the tie through Mathieu Valbuena on 15 minutes but goals from Joao Moutinho and Raul Jimenez in the second half looked like securing a quarter final place for the English club. However, Mady Camara would change all that with an equaliser just four minutes from time to crush Wolves' hopes of reaching the last eight of a European competition for the first time since 1972.

Manchester United secured their place as the only British side left with a boring 0-0 draw, whilst Inter Milan, Basel, Shakhtar and Bayer Leverkusen completed a safe passage through as favourites in their respective ties.

Five-time winners Sevilla dumped out Roma 1-0 away from home in a tense affair and Istanbul Basaksehir also produced a 1-0 away victory to knock out Danish champions FC Copenhagen.

Napoli hold their nerve to win shootout

https://i.ibb.co/vQ4386j/047c0-15687594593539-800.jpg

Napoli's clinical spot kicks proved enough to see them through to the final as they saw off Inter Milan in a nervy Coppa Italia Semi Final second leg at the San Paolo Stadium.

They were unable to find the net in 120 minutes but all five of their penalty takers managed to score whilst Alexis Sanchez proved to be the villain for Inter despite winning on the night.

The evening had started so well for the visitors when in-form striker Romelu Lukaku lashed home a first time strike following a loose header from Napoli defender Kostas Manolas.

Napoli slowly but surely began to get into the game as Samir Handanovic proved up to a long range effort from Fabian Ruiz before blocking a near post flick on from Diego Demme with his legs.

The second half took a long time to get going but Napoli continued to create the most chances - Handonovic pushing wide Lorenzo Insigne's powerful effort and substitute Dries Mertens wasting a golden opportunity from a near post cross.

With scores level on aggregate at 1-1 after 90 minutes, the game headed into extra time, providing Inter with a new lease of life. It was David Ospina's turn to keep his side in the game, first saving from Lautaro before keeping out goalscorer Lukaku.

Despite the game suddenly becoming end-to-end, neither side could find the winner and so the tie headed to a penalty shootout. Unfortunately for Inter, Sanchez's opening penalty was saved by Ospina and whilst they scored their next three it wasn't enough with Napoli's takers remaining calm to clinch a final match up with Juventus.

So we kick start things off in Italy with the Coppa Italia. Four of Italy's finest are all bidding for a place in the final with Napoli up 1-0 on Inter Milan from the first leg and AC Milan and Juventus all square at 1-1 following a controversial late penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo. Here's how the games played out.

Juventus hold off Milan in seven-goal thriller

https://i.ibb.co/TqjxbXd/hi-res-96ec5d7accbf2ee18667310df04e6813-crop-north.jpg

Juventus and AC Milan produced one of the all-time great matches in Turin but it was the 13-time winners Juventus who prevailed thanks to a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo.

The two Italian giants shared seven goals as momentum shifted back and forth throughout the 90 minutes in a game that saw both teams take the lead before Juventus grabbed hold of the tie late on in front of a packed home crowd at the Allianz Stadium.

The night had started well for the hosts, Ronaldo forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma into an early save before beating the Milan keeper at his near post on 10 minutes to put Juventus ahead in the tie.

It wasn't long before Milan got up to speed and after a well worked move Zlatan Ibrahimovic was left cursing his luck as his fierce shot from the edge of the area struck the inside of the post and stayed out.

Ante Rebic and Samu Castillejo squandered chances to level and were made to pay by Sami Khedira - the German international swivelling on the edge of the area and firing his right footed shot past Donnarumma, who was once again furious to have been beaten at his near post.

Things were looking bleak for Milan but a mistake by Blaise Matuidi on the edge of his own penalty area gifted them a chance to get back into the game. Castillejo reacted quickly, sending Ibrahimovic through on goal and the veteran striker duly obliged with a powerful finish to pull one back five minutes from the half time break.

It got even better for the visitors seconds before the half time whistle as the same duo linked up again on the counter attack - Castillejo lifting an inviting ball into the box for Ibrahimovic to head Milan level.

15 minutes passed at the beginning of the second half without incident before a scintillating passing move from Milan led to their third. Ismael Bennacer and Ibrahimovic completed a wonderful one-two on the edge of the Juventus box and with Wojciech Szczesny rushing out to meet Bennacer, the Algerian midfielder calmly slid the ball to Castillejo who couldn't miss with an open goal in front of him.

Juventus now needed two with Milan's three away goals but responded to going behind well, bringing on Aaron Ramsey to add fresh legs to their attack.

It didn't take long before they were level, Khedira playing a defence splitting pass to put Gonzalo Higuain, who had been quiet up until then, through on goal. He slotted the ball past Donnarumma who was powerless to stop the ball from hitting the back of the net.

With ten minutes to go Juventus had their winner. Juan Cuadrado found space on the right before unleashing an inch perfect cross right into the path of the on-rushing Ronaldo who slotted away the first time volley with ease.

Paulo Dybala almost added a fifth but dragged his golden chance wide of the post in the final few minutes, although it proved irrelevant as Juventus held out for a famous Coppa Italia victory.

Juventus will face the winner of Napoli vs Inter Milan in their 19th Coppa Italia final.

Lol ayy I did this on my YouTube channel, interested to see how it turns out for you!

Oh great, I’ll have to check it out. Going to be an interesting comparison.

As a Bristol City fan I’m most interested to see if we bottle it in-game as much as we do in real life 😂

I wanted to use the time spent self-isolating without sport to replicate what might have happened had football (and the world) not gone into lockdown. Therefore, using the amazing work by @AML with his latest DB updates that use the real results/fixtures, as well as some Excel magic for the lower leagues and FIFA20 simulation for the cups, I'm going to finish off the 19/20 season as if Coronavirus had never happened. Let's see how it goes.

These are the leagues I'll be covering: English Premier League, English Championship, English League One, English League Two, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, German Bundesliga, French Ligue 1, Portuguese Primeira Liga and Dutch Eredivisie.

I will also be covering all major national cups that are yet to be completed and both the Champions League and Europa League.

Here are a reminder of the tables as they stand.

#518880 A-League Salary Cap Bug

Anyone know how I can get around this? Just joined Sydney FC and I'm having to complete player registration for A-League midway through the season. Despite my players' wages not adding up to more than the £29k salary cap (minus the Designated Players) it's saying it is. Then when I leave pretty much all of my players out and add in the youth players it says the players not included will be let go. I only have about 15 first team players anyway so I really don't understand what I'm supposed to do.

I've attached screenshots. Any help is much appreciated.

First story I've read on here in ages. After three separate stints reading through I've finally caught up. Top work mate, absolutely storming through most of the countries (shame about the bloody Welsh!).

Look forward to seeing if you can overturn Barca's lead at the top.
