French giants prepare staggering bid for David De Gea

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea could be on the move this summer after sources close to Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain revealed Laurent Blanc is preparing a £40 million bid for the Spanish international.

Manchester United fans had little to cheer about last season as their side slumped to their lowest finish in Barclays Premier League history, but the performances of goalkeeper David De Gea was a shining light. The 23 year old made 37 league appearances last season and was rewarded for his fine form as he made his first senior international appearance for La Roja.

New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal may soon have an issue regarding De Gea as reports suggest that Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain are preparing a £40 million bid for the 23 year old and plan to pay him £160,000 a week.

"PSG are looking to build for the future with the best players money can buy and David De Gea is the best young goalkeeper in the world right now so it's only natural that they want to make him a PSG player as soon as possible," said the source.

"Laurent Blanc knows he'll have to pay big money to make him a PSG player and a plan is being put into place. The board agree that David De Gea is worth the investment and now we must wait to see if Manchester United are willing to do a deal to sell him. It will also depend on the players desire to swap Manchester for Paris," added the source close to Laurent Blanc.

De Gea has two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford and it's believed that United manager Louis van Gaal is considering naming the Spanish international as his vice captain ahead of the new Barclays Premier League campaign.

It's also believed that De Gea, who has made 94 league appearances for the Red Devils since his arrival from Atlético Madrid in 2011, is close to agreeing a new contract that would see him earn a reported £110,000 a week at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney confident of Premier League title challenge

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes the arrival of new manager Louis van Gaal this summer ensures they will challenge Chelsea and Manchester City for the Barclays Premier League title this season.

After leading the Netherlands to a third place finish at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will be preparing to lead the Red Devils, who finished 7th last season under David Moyes, back to the summit of the Barclays Premier League. England international Wayne Rooney believes the arrival of the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager will ensure United can challenge Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City for the Barclays Premier League title.

"The new manager has won a lot of top trophies in his time and everyone is excited to get back to business under the new boss. Last season was extremely difficult, things just didn't work out and everybody wants to ensure that doesn't happen again, we need to work hard everyday in training and challenge for top trophies again as soon as possible," said Rooney.

Rooney himself endured a difficult summer as England failed to win a game at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil and crashed out in the group stages of the tournament following defeats to Italy and Uruguay. The striker believes the experience will have only strengthened his resolve to help lead Manchester United back to the summit of domestic and European football.

"What happened in Brazil was deeply disappointing for myself personally and the entire England team," revealed Rooney.

"We prepared well and were very confident of progressing out of the group, but a few things went against us and we finished bottom of a group we had aimed to win. The experience was extremely bittersweet. Obviously you're honoured to represent your country at a World Cup, but you're not just there to take part, we went to Brazil with the aim of winning our group and we'd set an aim of reaching the quarter finals before the tournament started," added the Manchester United striker.

"In the end though I think the experience will only make me more determined on helping Manchester United challenge for the Premier League and Champions League. That's where this club belongs and anything less isn't acceptable," said Rooney.

The Red Devils face a tough start under new manager Louis van Gaal as they take on Chelsea at Old Trafford on the opening day of the new Barclays Premier League season before travelling to London to face Tottenham Hotspur a week later.
