We all know your tricks - say something with the intended purpose of riling someone up, get called out, play the "differing opinion" card and result to petty insults. It's nothing new and it's as sad an act as it's always been.

Petrov's retired in incredibly sad circumstances and people are commenting on what a shame it is considering the influence he had at Celtic and Aston Villa. No one's claiming he one of the best, and you know that - you only made that comment to provoke a reaction, not contribute intelligently to a debate.

He wasn't a great player, agreed. Certainly better than average though.

For an EPL player? He was run of the mill really but that standard is very high and people seem to take it as a slight when it is not

Rafael deserved to be sent off there is no doubt to that but MoTD showed Massey asking for a yellow. The reaction of the Chelsea players appears to have had an extra effect. Retrospective action needs to be brought in for simulation like Luiz and for the player waving a card (which is supposed to be punished anyhow).

There's a different between a false rape claim and some dumb 18 year old getting drunk, getting pumped and going "OMG I WUZ TOTES RAPED".
Do you know what the difference is? Someone who's been raped won't tell anyone and won't go to the police for fear of being judged or to try and forget it ever happened. The later will tell everyone and won't go to the police because they're lying and they'll get found out.
The system works. It's not strict enough, but it works.

It doesn't work or they would be able to come forward. I know the difference and I have seen the devastation of both sides. Each time the damage is far on the false claim which is more common than is believed but it is hard to prove.

Not ignorant but rather overstated. The problem with the supposed reality to rape reporting is that hardly any thought is ever given to the reality of false claims and they are almost as damaging in the current climate. As for statistics though, I do no care for them as I prefer to picture an individual rather than a statistic as stats don't give the whole story

Stop watching soap operas. False rape claims are about 0.0000001% of all cases, and very few rapes are actually reported.

False claims are far more common and you cannot prove your last point

It's important to remember that even in the present day many victims of rape and other sexual abuse don't come forward, despite the radically different social landscape compared to the 60s and 70s and all the efforts by law enforcement and social organisations have made to improve the treatment of victims since then.

Accusing someone of rape puts a very heavy burden upon the shoulders of the victim, especially if the person you accuse is famous or otherwise influential. Many victims simply feel that they can't carry that burden and choose to remain silent.

If a high-profile case like the one with Savile creates enough trust in the police and the justice system to make other victims of rape and sexual abuse to come forward, that's a very good thing. Saying that it "stinks of opportunism" entirely trivialises the absolute hell the victims of these crimes have gone through.

Well done Captain Obvious. How about the impact of a false claim on the victim of the claim?

Over that amount of time I doubt it is more than word against word. The police are just trying to look active over this to hide the many corruption and brutality cases against them
