March - May 2017: Crunch time!

It was certainly do or die for Gladiator, on the cusp of lifting the Eccellenza Campania, but in our way were Arzanese and Hermes Casagiove. First opposition of March were Hermes Casagiove, a must win to cement our place in the top two positions. It ended in misery! 2-1 defeat now left things wide open, but apart from that...

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/P3mDRqsPESYIjyVNLH5qWOI8FWmcrSvV7vgz3mwH.png

Almost a score of unbeaten matches but not to be.

However, we needed to maintain focus into our next match with A.V. Herculaneum. A pretty dismal draw where we should have taken something, perhaps it could be a bottle job. Finally we found some form by humiliating Olympic Salerno with a hefty 4-0 victory to keep our heads in contention. Another home match followed against Nola, in what was the most heart stopping match I've encountered in this save thus far. 3-1 down at half time to an amazing turnaround in the second period bagging a 5-3 victory. Priceless! That put us top of the pile on goal difference with Arzanese and Hermes Casagiove playing each other next. Getting caught up with what was happening elsewhere, we forgot how to play football against struggling RPF (not bothered to type their name). Only our third defeat in the league but could turn out to be a bitter blow to our chances as Arzanese had won their match 2-0 and we had to go to them away from home on the last day. Meaning this is how the table looks going into the last day.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/PHqUjuNTnfKRl11ONtO9O2W9dlCDvXucjKjdrg4V.png

B*llocks! Only a win would do away to Arza, with Hermes away at Isola di Procida on the last day. Three points adrift is massive but we would be champions if we won as head to head would be in our favour. A draw would mean we would have to rely on Hermes being held and succumb to playoffs. What a horrid situation.

Was it to be our year? Or did we bottle it?

IT'S THERE! I CAN'T QUITE BELIEVE IT! Backs to the wall in the second half after a Malafronte penalty gave us a slender lead. Lord knows how we didn't concede but we won more than just the match, the title is ours! Serie D here we come!

Somewhat surprised how Malafronte didn't win over my fans but Bonavolonta did show some terrific form to take the cake. Not sure how D'Elia was my signing of the season as he was more of a backup. Cacciatore frankly was the better signing. Carfagno had another delightful season on the right wing with his delicious crosses. Thoroughly impressive starting XI with an exception of Sacco who also showed great promise towards the end of the season.

It's amazing how the board almost wrote me off towards the end of last season to not letting go of me. Delighted to sign a new deal and am now an untouchable figure. How funny a 12 month difference makes.

But wait, there's more!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/db2mpQqSi5LVueriwAIOvyStXbGZSA8NeT6fay2Z.png

Our reputation now increases meaning we can now tie players down to proper contracts as opposed to amateur contracts. Meaning there was one thing to do..

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/6GKxcmNccaPuOW2SQdIDgk685Uz6SZbL7ExpMBdy.png

Signed, sealed and delivered! Malafronte shall be at the club for another year.

Final round of stats to show who was on the hot streaks during the season. Might get rid of a few players who are now growing old, might hang onto Maschio for a testimonial but time shall tell. Gelotto I think is retiring too.

Well, only time will tell who we get in Serie D and if we can stay up. Definitely one of my best seasons on FM16 thus far.

@Dan; They're like a rash, they keep coming back.

January - February 2017: On for a magical 20?

http://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/team/834849.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T6G2G8U8MpDe9C5aXoJVjEDM5wQ5sx4tjsXvL9yj.png

2017 had a warm welcome with plenty of cheer...and puzzling moments. Starting off with a close match against San Giorgio, coming out on top. However the next four were beard stroking to how we couldn't muster up victories, held to two scoreless draws with Isola di Procida and Sibilla Soccer where we should have won and two score draws against Casalnuovo and Sarnese in which we had to come from behind to escape with a point. Put a real dent in our plans as we were losing ground on the leaders Arzanese. A tweak in mentality meant we focused more on attacking to nab us wins, and the wins came flooding in. Picciola, Solofra and Eclanese all on the receiving ends of defeats, keeping three clean sheets in the process.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/3QoqmUpY30B6Y8t7LimjGn9Q4gkmorbOSXmtzWOJ.png

With that, it leaves six games remaining and keeps things very interesting at the top.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/yHwQl9csCHeryJp1cXMc9fBsjwqnrRCDlXnJMPDl.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/KPJsE1Ahhb9xWirLar7du60K0jgDzUcZAwKaGEKE.png

STILL not top, and is now being sorted alphabetically, meaning Arzanese scrape their arses on top going into March. Still all to play for, even when Hermes Casagiove are breathing down our necks. Could be a nervous finish.

But looking at our form, we've been absolutely rock solid this season. One defeat in the league and now up to 19 matches unbeaten and aiming for a magic 20.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/SmfVSFIDKUMx5FzoOBpIM7oRQS7o9ONiFtncQIYC.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xXRwlsbbmirlKu8BoxnrihfmPbMQWvHvurrS2DuI.png

Not much on the transfer front, absolutely nobody came in in the January transfer window. One departure was Luca Prisco, our right winger who could never seem to make it into the first team and he departed. However, there was a heart in mouth moment with Malafronte...

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/8trvEPKlVXY8unz9OeNmlq8MUxdFNtMW8vmNxn7y.png

Thankfully a false alarm.

Speaking of the devil, he's been in flying form (although a bit of a January blip, but back to form now) with 25 goals and 11 assists. Lots of 7+ average ratings meaning our team definitely has put in a great effort. Also saw the return of goalscoring Carlo Sacco finding his way again with some impressive performances of late.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/yWsO0a8hCtEDoOIwBAsnolgqHJNb1wpuht8n8ZKR.png

This may all be gravy, but what happens next?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/bltBFUx2dB8SK8Z8iYOKfo0Kwj95xTROC5Cb9Tjg.png

Holy sh*tballs this could get rough.
A six pointer against Hermes Casagiove could be make or break for not only the title but playoff hopes too. AV Herculaneum will be tough too as I've yet to beat them, however they are slumping in form which could play to my advantage. Olympic Salerno and Nola at home also big matches before an away day to Real Pontecagnano Faiano. Last but not least, possibly the decider of the title or playoffs, away to leaders Arzanese. Depending on how the run-in goes, I could reserve a cliffhanger to the second season, but only if we haven't already won it by that stage. Lots and lots at stake with my unbeaten run on the line. Here goes nothing.

@Dan; Who?
___________________________________________________________________________________

October 2016 - December 2016: Arza who?

http://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/team/834849.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T6G2G8U8MpDe9C5aXoJVjEDM5wQ5sx4tjsXvL9yj.png

Back to FM after a hefty set of exams, and came back to a staggering month of glory. Despite our cup run being disrupted mainly due to us fielding a weakened team to San Giorgio, we had our hopes kept high. Five points behind Arzanese, we knew the chase was on. Starting off comfortably by dispatching Eclanese comfortably 3-0. Following that was a hiccup against Herculaneum where we probably could have won, but a draw is better than nothing. Led kindly into a second leg defeat but that's where things took a massive turn. Four, yes FOUR back to back wins, unheard of when it comes to this club. All of this made possible by one man, Alessandro Malafronte. Olympic Salerno felt the wrath of Malafronte bagging two, though he should have scored a hat-trick. Malafronte scored another brace in a 3-1 victory against Real Pontecagnano to keep us hot on the heels of top spot. Arzanese at this stage started dropping points, kindly inviting us to cut the gap with a vital 2-1 win over Nola, leading in nicely to the crunch match at the top....And it's fair to say I walloped them. Not only walloped, but bludgeoned them to death, decapitating them, sticking the head at the end of a pike and showing it to their remaining travelling support, and it put us top on goal difference. Only for our plans to be halted by a frustrating encounter with Calpazio.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0uhrxLT6Xn8Md8r9Vb3Vesh3NDxBU2FeBbyuNHtg.png

How the hell did I not manage to take the three points?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/PWt2EVaRVHgLK1lyfaZ5D9s0XBTGvIS0bvng8h5l.png

Still leaves us well up for a title challenge going into 2017, but still glancing over our shoulders. Still a much better campaign compared to the first season!

It now gives us one of our best streaks, going unbeaten in 10 11 matches! (Also notice the last line).

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/orPAvmwKUFu9b3GUXdS8b09pRfN0mDXsDSFeTEp4.png

And of course the press were hounding about the performances of Alessandro Malafronte and his recent form. His future hangs in the balance due to some clubs after him and he may become a big fish in a small pond. 22 goals in 23 starts and 3 sub appearances. What a man.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nFCG4UN8vuFqSVXtEQeeUVPmISSo6YlGftIOl4ZC.png

As for the rest of my team, everyone is playing their part and the squad harmony looks good apart from one complainer who can't break into the first team. Whether I'll make transfers or sales is another decision.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/oTbRd4Cgckdw7enJi29eg3oql1IjgR7mXpmzQ32B.png

Our next two months look like this:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/DY9PMlvwUT5SssCONXjrKLhdGbyCFEPNa9QCns28.png

Itching for revenge against San Giorgio in our next match at home, especially for the cup exit. Sibilla Soccer are the only side to defeat me this season, making sure they don't do the double over me. Few away days, but the majority look like winnable matches with a good few in the bottom half of the table. Can we keep this good run going? Only time will tell.

October 2016: Ten and out..

http://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/team/834849.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T6G2G8U8MpDe9C5aXoJVjEDM5wQ5sx4tjsXvL9yj.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/yJ6TM79S0KXPFcg6dVRYBLt8sAjQk7pDMAwAQ70b.png

Carrying from where we left off, we managed to swiftly keep our good form rolling with a goal glut against Picciola, followed by a dramatic 90+3 minute winning goal against Isola di Procida. This great winning streak only made it to ten as a spanner was thrown into the work by a bogey team of mine called Sibilla Soccer, a 1-0 defeat within the last fifteen minutes condemned us to our first defeat of the season. It also spread to our cup form with a very stupid defeat to Gemonese 3-0 to level the tie at 5-5 on aggregate, only for an early extra time goal to send us through 6-5 on agg. Sarnese were our next victims with a comfy 1-0 win and then a delightful display at San Giorgio helped us along further with a superb team goal capped off by Cacciatore.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/FIbJaixWpPaZBd7KeIWi4WTC3eaEsCBdxUnGToZo.gif

Despite that, we could only muster up two draws our matches against Hermes Casagiove and a rather frustrating stalemate with Solofra to cap off a productive month.

It now leaves us five adrift of Arzanese at the apex but early days so far, there is still hope.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/t2k1oT0AB6aY6e73m50f2EogdQwaS6KRc2iltTDq.png

Our third round draw in the Coppa Italia Campania has been kind to us with San Giorgio again. Hoping to unleash more punishment.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/4AvedQhLcVwR9p9d9gwLBcB4KEMmDy1Ifi2e9GdN.png

Some stats to get an idea of how valuable our signing of Cacciatore has been. Outstanding stuff so far along with Malafronte. Carfagno raking in the assists as usual.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/XlRRDMKMUYImXFJBmYDY7gx2yyHTsislq2lrTgIv.png

Next update will be towards the end of 2016, bit more spread out in November and December. The crunch match against Arzanese will be crucial, that's if we hold our own in the league. Herculaneum will also be tough. The others should be quite winnable.

September 2016: Pressure? What pressure?

http://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/team/834849.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T6G2G8U8MpDe9C5aXoJVjEDM5wQ5sx4tjsXvL9yj.png

Well then...quite a month indeed! Eight games, eight wins. Granted some of them did come in the cup, nevertheless it has left our spirits high and stamps our authority for the beginning of the season. Two league matches were a priority and we had plenty to cheer about; Calpazio started us off on the up with a well obtained victory but the Casalnuovo match was sheer domination so coming away with only a single goal was a little underwhelming.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/shoSmUI8yGjRQKvuHmNSyOjomKNCQB50C91a0Xjr.png

Despite the opening day victory in the league, the jury was still out, meaning my fate would be sealed if an unexpected defeat against Audax Cervinara came about.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/6DRnUhhc9Kh8Z3rjk1ycPmYj60l76Tz3spt5NYdq.png

Safe to say, we took care of it professionally, sticking seven past a helpless non-league team. We built on that with wins over Calpazio (again), Real Poggiomarino, Boys Pianurese and G. Carotenuto. Professional job to top the group table without a scratch.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UJ0Vybhj85bq2uglzbWUylYIrZUAW31TWYB7ZnaB.png

Brought us a Second Round tie with another non-league team of Gemonese. First leg won comfortably 5-2. Away goals don't count if I recall correctly, so should be safe to qualify to the next stage. Even when the competition isn't a priority.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cfsbsnw26ASUd1gH6JtbI4UUwJrM1aOUGGtaq4HI.png

Elsewhere, the league table looks well for us if we can just continue this run into the rest of the season. Third place for now.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/CWRvKh2Qqa4KzoIIZ46LhNoJLNXUNEHitLee3s3F.png

The squad has been continuously rotated and so many have played out of their skin so far. New signing Cacciatore has not disappointed with gleaming displays along with Malafronte to grab eight goals each. Unfortunately Sacco has been a bit sub-par but has scored three. Funnily enough we've had eleven different goalscorers in the month of September alone! Carfagno with his golden right boot, grabbing 7 assists on the right side of midfield, Maschio with 4 on the left hand side. Everything looks shipshape.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/kw0JaHourzIOXcz6uqAtjdjlCw5rWyLP1BxLraey.png

More league matches this month and will hope to maintain our glorious start of the season. Bottom club Picciola are next for us, but two banana peels lie in the wake with Isola di Procida and Sibilla Soccer warming us up to the away leg against Gemonese. Five away matches in a row? Serious car-sickness.

June - August 2016: Reaching into our pockets

Not much has gone on since my last post, few friendlies here and there, some transfer business, the usual. The board are still casting an eye on my performances after last season's trainwreck but to avoid a repeat, some serious investments were required.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/vsa14mXPCLdXYFRqMYSvVjFWpJBqoiMTBh6L5koh.png

On the outs were a few bits of dead wood who I left were surplus, including the complaining Mattioli. Sad to see Pagano leaving, but he was too old at 39 to be making the first team. De Miglio too was too old. Others were not suited to my tactics.

Few deadline day deals were snapped up, including a few loans. More details follow in the spoiler.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/JI3jMd67MMuFndptn8LmVjuYA1HWoYImZHtQcQcx.png

Cristian Cacciatore - 31 / ST(C) - free transfer from Pineto

Expecting big things from this lad, well equipped with fine striker stats. Perhaps the composure can be improved, but has solid set piece skills. Quite well rounded and could challenge for Sacco's position up front.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/chbnKcvmXzK6CRVh1WMWUvI8cKusYVvVUS3krHNC.png

Marco Notaro - 22 / AM(C)/ST(C) - free transfer from AZ Picerno

One of my potential stars, though his stats could be well improved. Good physicals and a team player. Normally don't play with central attacking midfielders but will have to change it around. Might work well as a substitute striker too.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/8lmqQvbKZztwkjWNcIbBnkI4kF2VG1AvZDb8w5gU.png

Pietro Vincenzo Bencivenga - 18 / D(L) - on loan from Lupa Roma

With De Miglio out of the equation, we needed strengthening in the left back position. PVB is young and 18, meaning he fills in the Under 19 quota (2 are required in first team). Good tackling stats for this league, marking is a worry but will give us extra players in the position until the end of the season.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/a1QDa5f8QTgL9MkTFiC8Li7PoOcsGMK1t64xLP0j.png

Simone Ghezzi - 18 / AM(C) - on loan from Manfredonia

Another young loanee to help with the U19 quota. Unfortunately restricted to only an AM(C) but is competent in central midfield. Could be a decent Shadow Striker but is seen as more of a backup.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/v2DSzyaRVAMg4tG22E1hosttQlplz7y0dWzNGht3.png

Matteo D'Elia - 17 / AM(C)/AM(L) - on loan from Chieti

Similarly to Ghezzi, another backup for the U19 quota. Will be difficult to try accompany Matteo in an AM(C) position again but gives us options, plus also gives us cover on the left should Maschio get injured. Not the most well rounded, but a team player. Again more of a backup.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9Pl5z5M55bkNAZWWnqXopBZnvzayt5JVapiKVI7m.png

Baggio Camorani - 17 / AM(C)/ST(C) - on loan from Pomigliano

Yes, another attacking midfielder but is seen as the first choice. Mentally steady with decent physicals. More of a technical player but will be used as a rotation player.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/d8jkrJS2chbfLHFMPSqDCFF1XDzrppsOgIHbwmWb.png

Fabio Rovrena- 32 / DM/M(C) - free transfer from Gaeta

More experienced choice to accompany Bonavolonta in midfield but also gives us someone who can actually play as a defensive midfielder to give us extra cover. Looks very solid and could help us fill the gap between our defense and midfield as I left it had been left exposed.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Xz9iOjnnM9OmJfXmYfSSy7F08h1bFTf6fL41dtz1.png

Nice to see our profits have increased for the season, despite that we are an amateur team and we require no transfer or wage budgets. The loyal fans have stuck with us to garner some much needed gate receipts.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/4TYzaNytBG4aivvGW7zBxQ4owNdO6BRcHLX0habe.png

Pre-season also got into full swing with a few wins here and there, the only defeat was due to a new assistant manager coming in since our previous one left for another club.

http://i.imgur.com/aBHlmlG.png?1

Also got the draw for the Coppa Italia Campania group stages. Only myself and Calpazio are league sides, the rest are non-league. Should top it with ease, touch wood.

One final bombshell, I came across this...

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UEsi9A14soIoRhRYI6ez16QOXtSY7Za0lKZeBcVu.png

What even?

Anyways, September is around the corner and I've a lot of matches taking place. Majority of them in the cup, two matches against Calpazio in the matter of days. San Giorgio could be tricky, but I expect a result against Casalnuovo. Maybe then the board will restore their faith in me.

March 2016 - May 2016: A tough battle with the board

http://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/team/834849.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T6G2G8U8MpDe9C5aXoJVjEDM5wQ5sx4tjsXvL9yj.png

End of a disappointing opening season with barely anything to shout about. Luckily, my job is still in tact following my target requirements being smashed gaining 13 points from 5 matches. Although the case, we still ended up in the bottom half of the table with a disappointing 9th placed finish.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/yH4Xa87TlViLMNPGkXPFiKSPfgOtqurCHzVIg623.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/khOESYb61Qsxa07btvFGYnV1PFVfyG1hyNb4W0SZ.png

We may have taken the pedal off the gas too early on the home stretch to our season, losing our winning streak to a draw to Casalnuovo. Then things began to get hairy again with defeats to Isola di Procida and a big defeat to Sibilla Soccer to cause us falling down the table. The final game of the season was far from pretty, two red cards (one for either side), very scrappy and lacking in any goal mouth chances whatsoever, we missed out on claiming a top half finish against Mondragone when other teams above us on the day slipped up. Oplonti and Stasia both went up, while Virtus Volla, Portici and Nuova Boys Caivanese were relegated.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/FtZJ6nvn32JZqG3yEPkXlDQBWpTb745Hx5AuLCTg.png

My future still hangs in the balance and next season will be crucial to see if I can perform, new signings will be needed to strengthen our side and hopefully advance to Serie D. Ninth place did not go down well with the board, but the Coppa Italia Campania was totally out of our hands, as Sorrento went on to win the cup in the end.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/k7GqF9Lri0z28XPik0PahHXunlff7XZy16Z02euE.png

Quite surprised about Bonavolonta taking the fans' player of the season. Felt that Sacco or Carfagno deserved it more, but each to their own.

Time to get started with the new season and hopefully get some bargains to give us a better chance than last season.

February 2016: The End(?)

http://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/team/834849.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T6G2G8U8MpDe9C5aXoJVjEDM5wQ5sx4tjsXvL9yj.png

The pressure is certainly mounting on me and the board have me on my final tethers following a disappointing campaign. And from the looks of it...they are running out of patience.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9gXn6zLuSKX4seL4n2jjMRCM8LG821Hm4ep3M2pE.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/1JRE2Cyf45RITT0pKJbWjrKhk71wMfNclMkgglf9.png

A fair target set for me, especially since they had originally set it to 9 from 5. So, I must kick on and get the team back into shape for a huge battle. Could I achieve it?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/hihxC3NiufSOehnh4ZElqaFuXPPeXMLL4JJVN9EM.png

We certainly could, an outstanding turnaround getting three wins from four! Starting February off getting revenge against Sessana with a dominant display. Fell a little short against Hermes Casagiove which led to the board meeting, so I needed 7 points from my next five matches from that point. And it seemed to haven given my team a new lease of life as I've already taken 6 from 2 with back to back wins over Virtus Volla and snatched a late winner to come from 2-1 behind against San Giorgio!

The top four looks unreachable but should I remain in the top half, it will satisfy the board. Sadly, it won't satisfy my own ego as I feel we could have pushed higher and put in a title challenge, but such is life. Seventh is where we lie at this moment in time.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/tAXQEIvwRZLLHeXAoN8LOBl3K0BnsiSiJEVPdZrP.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/1WGs357Ec87sEfXaeGlL1m1yRRPTWXjpXUu7VQ2q.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Np42rsUFbR26LqSS4PTx18Pxxld8piKPZXvdsNdt.png

I did however get an offer for an interview with another side, Igea Virtus. They currently lie third in their own division but I dismissed their interest despite attending the interview.

Transfers were also carried out, getting a few new names in at the back line both left and right.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/DpKAlHPWe0Yf8HDJkJCVxxYnGvTwaXc4DrHihEOm.png

The team harmony seems to have improved too, everyone seems relatively happy. Carlos Sacco has been outstanding this month, bagging five goals in our last four and taking his tally up to 21 for the season.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/itgiYVlZsBB28L1EGMcyEC93vA6xTRH8p363xXTV.png

That being said, our best player on the field is still Vincenzo Carfagno, dominating that right wing and providing 15 assists and an average rating of 7.49.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/itgiYVlZsBB28L1EGMcyEC93vA6xTRH8p363xXTV.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/mxSUI37CVPlqAa22GHrVG2vjhJMtL6n2J018I5bQ.png

So I have one point to gain from my next three to keep my job which should be easy takings since they are against bottom table teams. Real Forio, Portici and Casalnuovo will ultimately decide my destiny. My next update will be at the end of the first season.

December 2015 - January 2016: Scared Little Puppy Dogs

Well...things are spiraling out of control and there is no stopping our freefall. I've really nobody to blame but myself with how I've let everything slip between my fingers but a degree of it has to go to my team; spineless at the back, out-muscled in midfield and feeble up front. Lord knows how I'm still in charge.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Flzydw3LpLefI6PMrwEjpX9EXfVWRJW3zkjIifBf.png

The only saving grace was our result against Sibilla Soccer but there was more than a hint of luck about it....

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/2NfQ9i01to18ucK0IQQ1NVxnMSXbjplWKZjI6ebf.png

The rest? Utter rubbish. Okay, we may have come from 4-1 down against A.V. Herculaneum but still took nothing from it. Our last three defeats were disastrous.

Where does it leave us in the table?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/67Y2SJ0xWBcHunJB7xVHLvIm03nxPaDHWXYoJkXa.png

Struggling and falling at a rate of knots. Need a miraculous U-turn in fortune to not only keep us up and stable, but to keep my damn job. Seems that the signs are all pointing to the managerial trapdoor.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/1PUiuhzChGlF1lIcYDPr9cN3LSX3sl1jrjBgnngv.png

Not much has changed with our players, Sacco still our top scorer and Carfagno providing much needed assists.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/PN9SI4W7uR7rcw6ZODOLxhVO1Cnk5ihdNs1j3quk.png

What happens next? Well our forthcoming fixtures place us at home for the majority, which may give us a lifeline to change our tone but can't be feeling too optimistic about it. I'll be lucky to make it through to February at this rate.

October-November 2015: Inconsistency..

http://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/team/834849.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T6G2G8U8MpDe9C5aXoJVjEDM5wQ5sx4tjsXvL9yj.png

The inconsistency is real within the Gladiator camp with the most bipolar two months you'll see. The league form rudely disrupted with an awful end to November, after a six game unbeaten streak without conceding. Also dumped out of the Coppa Italia Campania with a tough two legs against Sorrento. If we look back on our season, regrets would come from two matches; the 4-3 defeat to Oplonti Pro Savoia, losing grip of the lead on two occasions and crumbled under severe second half pressure and secondly the 3-1 defeat to Portici, a banker of a game we dominated for 80 minutes and conceded three in the last ten minutes with a slightly rotated line up.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/rWAd3WLfUBf0M7dPW5SucrtViuZe4XIuad5FUTse.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/25EM3hiZ20RunHfs3AK7sFxffsHzwMDVOK8hbbvz.png

With those results, we now slip to eighth lying twelve points behind the leaders Stasia Soccer.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/hEqeZMMymLevZcj17NU9bove8M61Hr3SnnHYLiaJ.png

Perhaps being a little harsh on the players, they have actually done very well for me. My signing Carlo Sacco providing the Sacc Attack up front with 13 goals, while our service assistant Vincenzo Carfagno setting up the majority with 12 assists. We've got a bit of a problem with our wing backs but will look into doing some business in the next transfer window.

July-September 2015: Feasting on blood!

A hectic few months of matches saw us pick up a hat-full of victories, mainly coming in the Coppa Italia Campania which is a bit of a Johnstone's Paint Trophy kind of deal but some piece of silverware will do just nicely. Only one scratch against Puteolana, but they seem to have caught us by surprise. Otherwise, a healthy run of wins.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/fc6Hrr4eRqKkv0kzjB6sPPEugjwNA7obEeNBtNac.png

Unbeaten in friendlies and unbeaten in the league so far, though we almost caved in against Arzanese with our makeshift back three. Not sure how we failed to beat Herculaneum, frustrated us and failing to break the deadlock. As said earlier, I may have underestimated Puteolana's ability as they handed us our first defeat but the rest was fairly routine with big wins over Santa Maria la Fossa and Sporting Accadia, securing our qualification from the group.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/sxw9s78XbWOQlduL3ivZAZLNipNUDzQWYYDHdrrT.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xh5qSRsAeLLuB2TE1O7XwYfJwzOFi3vFPjjCrbGk.png

Second round has drawn us against Sorrento Calcio who managed to take five wins from five including a 9-0 thumping of one non-league side. It's competed over two legs with our first leg away from home. Certainly up for a challenge!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/vjWjJ3Y3433JYAEDuG1NuZPEASGuqKTlgG22Ra39.png

Not much going on in the league for now, but 4 points from 2 is decent.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ONOw1yVKHh0t6uFp4pDU0f3u89F3C5I5RlyxBmb7.png

In terms of stand out players, one of my new signings Carlo Sacco is proving his worth with a couple of goals, likewise with Pagano. Carfagno is the Mesut Ozil of the team so far.

So after a whirlwind couple of weeks, I've finally found time to play FM16 again. Thought I'd give this team a go, simply because of their kick ass name. Not much information about this team; no honours, no glory.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/zG1NO3euYn0USlaYxw2Ml5WqDF4igRNL79zUtCpe.png

Never played in the fifth tier of Italian football myself, so this will definitely be an experience. Whether it will go well or not is another question. Since I have no assistant, no coaches, no scouts and no staff whatsoever.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Hwy1lE7jVQ0Wv3ieDqp26Uff7ZGEW9qDM3K1W6to.png

At least the club are financially stable.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/BFXdTalFqJhPrxVrp0T8U3ZEQMAV2Q5TUNjM3TNZ.png

Winter Break-Start of 2016 Season - Transfers Round Up & Pre-Season

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T6G2G8U8MpDe9C5aXoJVjEDM5wQ5sx4tjsXvL9yj.pnghttp://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/team/52076833.png

Transfers:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/62RJ9mRHVFYLql6sxBhP3aev2FNkAC96omlnZ3xx.png

I didn't exactly 'splash the cash' however a few investments were carried out over the course of the transfer window. On the way out were a four players, sadly including John McKeown who hasn't interested in renewing his contract due to ambition issues. The rest were effectively dead wood players. As for the transfers in, a few soft spots for Malahide players whom I worked with in FM14, most notably my star man Anthony Bolger. Although 22, I feel he will excel at this level once he gets into the strive.

Greater detail of these signings can be found here:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/KfjadqhtzBEH8qKhReWRlAss9I3IrFQGGKkYes0B.png

Jake Hyland - M/AM(C) (free transfer from Malahide United)

The number one item on the shopping list was a replacement for John McKeown and I immediately swooped this player up. Looks brilliant for a division of this caliber. More inclined to field him as a BBM as opposed to bring him up to a AMC to partner Alan Cawley as a sort of 'mini-reunion' as Malahide players combine in the center of the park.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/J96pYsoVgMVKVrQ5UTuknYQkpTossmp87S6PcbmM.png

Marco Chindea - AM(RL)/M(RL) (unattached)

Next step was to increase the firepower on the wings. Let go by Athlone last season, Marco looks a worthy candidate with good pace. I may work on his crossing to make him look a bit more dangerous.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/42J1HzmqTXqXbiyA7AJi4fngbe7HNXWl6YuIkuZR.png

Robbie Gaul - D(RC)/DM/M(C) (unattached)

Not entirely sure who let go of Robbie, but he'll be key to fill in at the back or the rock between our defense and midfield. Defensively, we looked unstable last season and with his versatility, I'm sure Robbie will feature around some area. Not the best stats, but a team player for sure.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nxdsPxZwhD3va8VsA9mpS797bkDzAy5ZmsNUPpUA.png

Manny Kaguako - D(RL) (free transfer from Tolka Rovers)

Before you ask, he has resided in Ireland for the last number of years, qualifying him as an Irish citizen and therefore eligible in the challenge. Again, better defense will help us out this season and Manny could prove to be a big player. Good stats defensively.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/lUoP91tpMRIibh8UEDCGvFjmZ3SSbbCllK3TtXbX.png

Connor Deards- ST(C) (free transfer from Swilly Rovers)

Swilly Rovers had a great campaign in the EA Sports cup, making it to the final and Connor played integral parts in it. Supposedly a target man with a heading of 5 is pretty atrocious but as a poacher or advanced forward with a finishing of 12, it could help us score goals. This guy could spark magic.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0OTtkCgTVvOteMBVDjkH4sEEBW70TlLqVxG2gHXV.png

Anthony Bolger - ST(C) (free transfer from Malahide United)

A sort of homecoming to be under my managerial prowess again, the ginger ninja himself Anthony Bolger. Provided wonders for me in FM14 and have signed him up in hope he can help out again. Not impressive statwise, but the plan is to loan him out before he cements himself in the first team. I have faith he can show what he is capable of.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/3DpDHiN1YPPBY1yYYzbMjebSoOO9ubOyDtIrMdPM.png

Paul Phelan - M/AM(L)/M(C) (free transfer from Ferrybank)

More of a backup since the number of left sided midfielders in our team is slim, but could be a solid winger for us when he gets game time. Temporary signing for now.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xW0eIdueOOOMoGsmH24qpLSNJys4BMlSiv4lcMxy.png

Dean Murphy - M/AM(L)/M(C) (free transfer from Cherry Orchard)

After Victor Ekanem's broken leg, it was clear we seriously needed a good center back to partner him on his return. Dean has good heading stats to help us with aerial challenges and should galvanize the defense.

Pre-Season:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xLtTOjhn8wSKRTJu9vnpeCqJwjTtRebee48vvEfa.png

...I really need a new assistant. Hopefully this doesn't spill over into our league form.

Leinster Senior Cup Fourth Round:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/3F8o8zcz0Fuf8HsOgRDDQ2PLMEHdO8yrqL9txyCW.png

First particularly competitive game of the season was at Dalymount Park to take on Bohemians. The scoreline didn't exactly reflect their greater force compared to us and we gave it a good shot. Connor Deards bagged his first goal on his debut which was promising too. Mickey Mouse cup as far as I'm concerned.

Forthcoming Fixtures:

Tough run in with Cork and Bray back to back, plus our now bogey side Finn Harps away. The big one though is trying to get one over the team that snatched a playoff from me last season Cobh Ramblers. Trying to settle an old score.

No major strives in the cup competitions, however fourth place in the league was a great feat and will be looking to improve on that.

Team of the Season/Player of the Season:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ynDSKkRG1JWNT2vQyNLZ9X8Y2v34RD5u4KpNGkpH.png

Quite surprised to see Alan Cawley in AMC given he was a bit of a scalp compared to others like Conor Foley. Was also a difficult own to decide between Shane O'Neill and Dean Ebbe, but despite being injured for a lengthy spell Ebbe took the lone striker role. No complaints about GK and defence.

Player of the Season - Victor Ekanem

http://loi.cabinteelyfc.ie/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Victor-Ekanem-211x300.jpg
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/khtiMbPwa6JPgZOINQo8JvRta1iPTZUT3FKFleEC.png

Not a surprise as he was a cut above the rest in my humble opinion. Always looked rock solid as a center back, despite a broken leg causing him to miss the final quarter of the season. I have seen him play in real life too and I know of his quality so I was relieved when he finally gave into signing a new deal for us until the end of 2016 too.

Some might call this season a brave success, I find it a missed opportunity for greater things. With a playoff spot in our hands, we really needed to push on. Only a handful of wins would secure it, especially with a match with Cobh Ramblers in the wakes.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/FoqUOS9sovzuQzVxrEUZExkm1BqjuQWmQNXFEadM.png

Those two defeats may be very costly.

Airtricity First Division:

Matchday Twenty Five - vs. Cobh Ramblers

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/CZc1EazWkt0h0oyrTkFWi1qg5EP8mYgeJg3HK0FU.png

Saved by the bell! Shane O'Neill was our saviour to snatch a goal at the death to take a point. It meant we were still in contention for a shot at the playoffs still one point behind the Cork side.

Matchday Twenty Six - vs. Athlone Town

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/A91I3eWGO9Q93V6ulRweqXC9G1Tweepv6J39lPId.png

The only team in the league we haven't been on the end of a defeat, Athlone Town, was a big match. Cobh slipped to a midweek defeat to UCD due to a cup match clash, meaning Cobh played on Wednesday and were battered 3-0. No other option but to win and a win we managed! A debutant of Stephen Hanley proved to be a gamble but paid off with a glittering display along with Richie Purdy grabbing a second. Of course Athlone kept it interesting with a goal back but we were now up to third thanks to it!

Matchday Twenty Seven - vs. Finn Harps

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/zafJd4hAkHRbP77etzSLyUYyNeCzT8DA3mStf0VB.png

A team who were getting on my nerves, Finn Harps cut us open again and demolished us 3-0. No chance of us getting a toehold. However, our luck prevailed as Cobh fell to a 2-1 defeat to Wexford to keep us in the driving seat.

The big concern was goal difference..

Matchday Twenty Eight - vs. Waterford United

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/5aQguc5L6czI9StGxPxVztwFvq1XeQISlKnWjJoW.png

Bottled it! Despite a good first half, Waterford bombarded us with shots left, right and center to claim a 2-1 victory. All we could hope for was a Cobh defeat at Shelbourne.

But it wasn't to be. Cobh won 2-0 in Tolka and condemned us to fourth place.

Airtricity First Division Final League Table:

Gutted. Nabbed in the last match to let the Ramblers sneak in under to leapfrog us. However, Shelbourne did the kind favour of demolishing them in the playoffs and eventually going up by defeating Cork City in the final. Glad we managed to stay fourth, but when you get that close, you just wish you could hang on to it.

August 2015: "A miserable run-in to the finish line."

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T6G2G8U8MpDe9C5aXoJVjEDM5wQ5sx4tjsXvL9yj.pnghttp://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/team/52076833.png

Coming towards the end of the first season and things have taken a turn for the worst. Injuries, suspensions and rotten results mean we now go chasing for the playoffs. Wexford Youths have been too hot to handle and seem to be charging to the league title. With my best centre back and strike force all in the hospital beds, one can only hope for a speedy recovery.

Cobh Ramblers have now snatched our place in the playoffs, but we still need to face them for the last time so anything goes. More concerned about losing our top half status with a few teams sniffing around. Might pay off as we reach the end but our ambition to make the promotion/relegation playoff is still achievable.

Airtricity First Division:

Matchday Twenty One - vs. Waterford United

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xfzTxVBgffWyNWU64LvSGbZgr0Bk6CHe8aJKaQsT.png

Revenge was on the cards as we traveled down to skanger town, er, I mean Waterford United. By the way they were playing they were set out to snap legs, bite faces and slash throats, which they ultimately did. Four injuries. FOUR. Luckily, one of them was a stubbed toe but three faced lengthy spells on the sidelines. Despite that, we went in front from a rare Sodiq Oguntola goal. But they felt they had the last laugh, draining an equaliser while we were down to ten men. However, justice prevailed with a sweetly struck Alan Cawley free kick in injury time. Suck on that you c***s!

Matchday Twenty Two - vs. U.C.D.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/RQ9o1ZvhqKD7z4h4a11v6aQsVLVz0hpPdrgmw87L.png

This was a classic case of reviving form as it was a woeful spell for U.C.D. as manager Colin O'Neill hit the sack. The Students lost their last six, but amazingly found form against us. Typical. Another red card changed the game in the second half and we folded like origami.

Matchday Twenty Three - vs. Wexford Youths

http://i.imgur.com/acZGTUl.png?1

High flying Wexford Youths were up next, knowing a defeat will all but end our hopes of the title. And it proved to be just. Stayed on the back foot for most of it, but with a late red for Peter Higgins, we sought hope. Peppered the goal a few times but to no avail. Gutting defeat.

Matchday Twenty Four- vs. Shelbourne

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/O2wLqPvLAl6RYi8NtCHWXEPUuyQJTemwdkc3h54W.png

A second half capitulation saw our way out of the playoffs with an embarrassing display against Shelbourne at home. Our home form has been woeful and added to that with a spanking from Benrouguibi, having a hand in all three goals. Full time could not come soon enough.

The last four are crucial, and none more crucial than going to Cobh. Should we lose, a four point gap gapes. Luckily bottom half teams will see us out but none should be left for granted. This is mission improbable.

June-July 2015: "A summer of frustration."

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T6G2G8U8MpDe9C5aXoJVjEDM5wQ5sx4tjsXvL9yj.pnghttp://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/team/52076833.png

http://www.donegalsporthub.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/AO2X6957.jpg

A bumper amount of games, both crucial and important. The trio of matches involving UCD, Wexford Youths and Shelbourne I was hoping to get six points from, only managing one. Incredibly disappointing. Our cup hopes were torn up, shredded and stamped on by Longford. Few wins here and there but the pressure is beginning to mount and I'm wondering if we can hold on.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0LvXYabD7EvhfmihJgL0oUNvzaRjjNVJab2xqgPu.png

It seems our title hopes are a fickle memory now. Not a hope we'll catch Wexford at this rate. Our only saving grace would be to snatch a playoff place, but with the teams below us, we'll need to rely on good fortune to hold out at this rate.

Airtricity First Division:

Matchday Fourteen - vs. Finn Harps

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/vYCPjZXJFGYqjefYzqZYVczGGsMnBmmltdZC5ezd.png

Our furthest away trip came up in Ballybofey as Finn Harps welcomed us. Can't say that I was too surprised at the result as our dominance showed on the day. Two wins from two against the Donegal side.

Matchday Fifteen - vs. U.C.D.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/GhAroMQezIV8Jaz8vrX7TCeuJn5HfovHkWqQYAi7.png

The first of the big three came about as we took on the students of U.C.D. for the third time. The temptation to smash my keyboard was real in this one as we blew an enormous amount of chances as the stats below will tell you. Credit has to be given the UCD 'keeper pulling off heroics to keep us at bay. Very disappointed we couldn't get more than a point.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QkvHITXOEE9HHJPn11jpj7FnvAi4rO8taxC9x95U.png

Matchday Sixteen - vs. Wexford Youths

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/65gwOnIrSyIgmD5nqDUdjPNK66UVZ93fC02nI0PB.png

The biggy was up next, facing Wexford Youths at Stradbrook. The Youths has the league almost by the balls at this stage so at least a point was needed. Nope. Despite upping the ante in the first half, we fell behind and from there on in it was a mountainous climb. Eric Molloy sunk our hopes and left us for dead. Gutted.

Matchday Seventeen - vs. Shelbourne

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/2onSeh7mup6vBV7JupTQG2eQnnOMHncR25TOtsRA.png

Isn't it incredible how one incident can turn a game on it's head? Well we were cursed by Kevin Knight's early booking in the second half to earn us a harsh defeat to the Shels at Tolka Park. Conor Foley curled a delicious shot from the edge of the area into the back of the net to put us in front at the break. However, defending was on our agenda following the red card and two goals, no less than sixty seconds apart left us with no points. I was reaching boiling point at that stage.

Matchday Eighteen - vs. Cobh Ramblers

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/W6YoZGDkNmPXUpYd63TIcSzX8B6PN598QXCZfaIW.png

What would make this stage better for us was three points against Cobh Ramblers, considering they were one of the chasing pack. Not the most entertaining match, but a rare goal from Alan Cawley sealed the deal and hopefully would kick us back into shape.

Matchday Nineteen - vs. Athlone Town

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/XF7w3EycGa7V6sawZapPZqcJU9SeCelBxaZGWES9.png

Athlone Town was our next trip, knowing full well that this would be a much harder match than it seemed given our last two. Surprisingly, it was more comfortable than that with two first half goals from Conor Foley and Alan Cawley. However, the comfort zone was breached due to one of the most absurd own goals from my goalkeeper Cathal Gillen.

Matchday Twenty - vs. Finn Harps

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/hMtEgMGLOYAlz5lpG1Elm8e2S2AA227dl9sXgXG7.png

Well...Finn Harps definitely got their revenge from me. Disastrous to say the least. Never really looked like posing a threat in front of goal. A very poor way to end the month of July.

In other news..:

The board are willing to hang onto me for now. Just waiting to seal the deal on a new contract. However, there were already two casualties.

The Finn Harps one was inevitable, but UCD's form took a huge tumble which saw Colin O'Neill on the firing floor.
