Mate has a code for DOTA for me, looking forward to trying it out. Love LoL.

Well, you probably won't like it at the beginning. Getting used to a new game(especially moba) is pretty damn hard. I played HoN for 2 years or so and had a really hard time getting used to Dota 2. Now when I watch a HoN stream I just can't imagine how could have I played it.

You'll also probably get flamed more than in LoL, so just play with your friend.

Turns out after installing the fucking thing I now have to wait for the beta code.

You have the spectator client probably. You can't play on that.

If you REALLY want to play Dota 2, I'll send you one. Me and my mates have a few extra ones.

Dota 2 has the advantage of Valve backing it, so I think Dota 2 will become bigger once it hits non-beta status.

I just found out I have access to the beta though so I'm downloading it atm.

The communities of all the MOBA games are fucking terrible anyway.

If you want me to carry your noob ass through some games, let me know. You will even have the advantage of hearing my sexy voice over Skype/TS something.

At the minute though LoL is probably slightly bigger, purely because Dota2 is still in beta/invite only. The LoL Season 2 finals, despite the mahussive problems they had, did get over a million viewers for the final five games. Then you'd have people like me watching the VODs the next day.

To be honest, the whole LoL/Dota rivalry is tiresome.

LoL is bigger. LoL is the most played game on the planet at the moment. Dota 2 is very big too and will get even bigger with moves such as hiring the Chinese distributor. Hell, even HoN is big when looking at the grand scheme of things, they are just unlucky that they are in a genre with such immense competition.

To put it simple, the Dota community hates both HoN and LoL. Hell, I'm sure most of the people in this community hate their own mothers too.
The HoN community doesn't really hate anyone, but they are very critical of their own game.
I have no idea about the LoL community.

I don't really "hate" LoL, but I do think it wasn't designed to be an ultra competitive esport and Riot are pushing it just because they are filthy rich, thus they can. I also don't like the fact that they actually pay a shitload of money to tournament organizers and kinda making them not pick up other Mobas. And yes, I'm jealous of LoL's competitive status, but I'm sure Dota 2 can surpass it.

Red Bull said they want to get into esports even more and Dota 2 is top of their list. Hellz yeah!

In other Dota news, Valve found a distributor in China. This will make the game even bigger in Asia. Hellz yeah again!

A relatively small Dota 2 tournament last weekend in Kiew(15k pricepool) had 100k viewers watching the stream in the time of the finals. Hellz yeah again.

Oh and by the way.. This approach is retarded to put it simple. A lot of gaming companies realized that micro transactions are the best approach to get a constant income(see Valve), but the most important thing is that the player who pays shouldn't get any advantage over those who don't. For this Valve brought only cosmetics into the game, like weapon skins, hats or whatever. No problem with that. if you suck, you can make the game look prettier, but you will still end up sucking and those who are more skilled than you, but don't wish to pay, won't end up with a disadvantage.

SI should hire some good gfx designers from across the scene and make people pay for visual stuff. No harm in that. But then again, SI are known for making stupid decisions, such as restricted sites from creating eBooks for the game and whatnot.
