Start of Season 1
A host of pre-season matches saw Anderlecht get a well deserved prep for the start of the season. Since the start of the season Anderlecht has gotten off to a flyer with an unbeaten run of 8 games.
The manager has got a winning formulae so far with a formation that concentrates on ball possession and hurting the opposition through the middle.

Transfer Window 1
With £4.7 transfer budget, we decided to bring in some additional players. Jozak advised us on an experienced midfielder to go along with our young midfield. Marko Docic was our preferred choice and we snapped him up for £550k.
A big admirer of next player by the manager was right central defender Timothee Pembele. Contact was made with his camp. He was convinced of the project ahead and Jozak wasted no time in brining him in from PSG for £775k.
Souts were hard at work trying to find an inverted winger who could also play an attacking midfield role. Scouts have been following Tete Morente a 26yr old Spanish player at Betis. Jozak made contact and it was tough negotiations. But we managed to secure his services at an initial £1.9m with £2.6m addons. Negotiations with the players camp was not straight forward but we eventually got it over the line.
A late bid for Benito Raman came in from Genk. The player made it known he wanted to leave and so Anderlecht was facing a race to secure another striker. The manager put forward Danny Namaso as his preferred option. Calls to Porto went well into the evening and there was an agreement reached for £1.5m

New Director of Football
After concrete talks the Anderlecht owners there was a decision to make a change in the Director of Football position. Remeo Jozak was the name on everyone's lips and it wasn't very long to see this appoint. With great adaptability and negotiation skills we will be sure to need him getting to business as soon as possible.

Assistant Manager Appointment: René Marić
Rene boasts a credible football resume at such a young age and has worked with top clubs like Leeds United, Dortmund, RB Salzburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Austrian born, Rene enjoys using the genenpress style which suits our formation. Rene brings experience in our transitional play between 4312 to 433. His easy media friendly approach and determination make him a useful addition. Areas of development is in people management and that will improve with more years of experience. He can also ensure necessary discipline is applied and his good adaptability will make him work easily with other staff. Tactically Rene is astute in making sure we are seeking to address the weaknesses of our opposition.

Season 1 - Anderlecht
Kickoff on our journey starts with Anderlecht. A prestigious club in Belgium with 34 League Titles, 1 UEFA Europa League, 2 Super Cups, 2 European Cup winners cup and a host of domestic cups. The Lotto Park stadium seats around 21 500 and was originally built in 1918. The club was first founded in 1908 and today boasts top training and youth facilities. Most notably in recent times they have produced players like Vincent Kompany.
With £4.7m pounds in the transfer kitty, and £30m bank balance, Anderlecht is an exciting prospect. Unfortunately their net debt stands at around £105m which means there wont be increased transfer budget unless there is increase in revenue or reduction of debt. Wage budget sits at a modest £ 405k per week with over 81% of the wages already used up.
Fortunately, Anderlecht boasts a decent u18 and youth setup that is shown as strong status with high potential. This means we definitely have options to bring youth through to the first team. Three players are currently out on loan. With 14 Home Grown players in the first team, we have ensure we keep those numbers up as Belgium league has strict rules in ensuring enough home grown players are in your match day squad.
Anderlecht failed to make top 3 in previous season, with 14 league titles won from 1990, and 7 runner up places in the league. This makes them a serious contender, and last seasons failures are sure to be unacceptable for such a big club.
Our goals for the season:
1. Minimum target: break into the top 3. Stretch target is to try and eclipse Clube Brugge on their recent strangle hold on the title for the last 3/4 seasons. Antwerp is also a team to be weary about as the clinched the title previous season. Making top 3 could bring European nights back to Anderlecht and be sure to raise the transfer kitty. An incentive to clinching the title would also be a shot at the Belgian Super Cup next season, which Anderlecht surprisingly last won in 1988.
2. Try and secure at least a domestic trophy - the Croky Belgian Cup.

LAST TWO LEAGUE GAMES
So we around 2 games to go. United on 36 games. Arsenal on 37 games. United need a minimum of 2 points in their last 2 games (Liverpool away, Newcastle Away). I am thinking its United to lose. I have basically resigned to the fact I will have to try and win the league with Arsenal again in another season. Obviously I was trying to aim for 7 titles in 7 seasons...and was starting to accept that might not be the case.
United faced Liverpool (the club I follow and a big fan of) and I hoped atleast they would draw. True and behold, Liverpool smashed United 4-2. I was estatic. A small glimmer of hope but still thinking a win would clinch it for them. More importantly they had the much more superior goal difference.
This result was good. Liverpool actually made it to the CL final under Klopp along with Arsenal. The win was a true testament to the club I follow dearly helping me out. So we entered the last game of the season with United on top just needing a win. How the table had turned - 2 points in 2 games turned to need 3 points in 1 (cause getting 2 points from 1 game was not possible).
Arsenal faced Southampton and took the lead and raced to a 3-0 lead. United went 2-0 up and at the half time, it sunk in. United were going to snatch this from Arsenal. When it got to 80 min respectively, things turned around. Newcastle got one back. I totally ignored my match and continued to watch the latest score update widget on screen. Hoping Newcastle would get the second.
Then on 82 minutes Newcastle got their 2nd goal (Wijaldum you beauty!!!!). I was surprised and happy at the same time. I quickly got back focus to my game and saw Southampton pulled two back and it was now 3-2. First thought was: Is this FM really going to f* with me. I am 3-0 up and now stand to possible draw this game...and United who lose their lead are going to win by just getting 1 pt. This now meant just 1 point in last 2 games would seal their fate. Thankfully Arsenal made it 4-2 in 90+ minutes and Newcastle held their nerve to keep the draw. This allowed Arsenal to leap frog united and steal the Barclays premiership under them. For the first time, no Fergie time could save them and they bottled under the pressure. Needless to say I was dancing and in a good mood in my living room when this happened. Thankfully family was in bed and asleep to not see my antics. Below is a snapshot of that moment in time- where dreams do come true in games.
A good mate Quintin is also carrying our this challenge (who may post) got a running commentary from me on iMessage and encouraged me to post this. He himself enjoyed recent Inter success and his new City endeavours is already a good start. I am sure we both will have stories to tell but we were both astonished to see United lose grip and the twist and turns this brought at the send of season four.
The good thing for me is the race for ...7 titles in 7 seasons is till on. Four in four and 3 to go (Spain, Germany and Italy). Lets do this!

FC Twente - Holland
I landed the only real job going at start of game. Some might have sat it out until the right team came along. But I was eager to get going. FC Twente presented an interesting challenge. Not much transfer kitty, but a hard working team. I got to work on strengthening the team where I needed it most through loans and small buys. I was hoping to at least be in contention near the end but luckily PSV and Ajax was not having a really great season. No European football helped and together with some possession and attacking football at times I was able to take advantage on a continuous basis. I resigned when FC Twente gave me an ultimatum to jump ship after showing interest elsewhere. This allowed me to then join Marseille in France.
Marseille - France
To be honest, getting the Marseille job was a really great experience. The interview process was fairly tricky given I had no significant experience and showed no real loyalty. Obviously the game is a little more forgiving here. I joined Marseille where they failed to get into Europe the season before and also they had been out dominated by their powerful rivals Monaco and PSG. This was a really daunting task. Fortunately I got some early financial backing. I think the request to sign high profile players must have lifted the ante for me. I concentrated largely on defense and a really good keeper. I made an investment to sign Rulli and Balanta. Both South American gems. Again, no European football really helped. I managed to pick up points against rivals and avoid defeats where possible. A diligent finish and steady campaign saw me gain a marginal lead and this helped me relax as the season came to an end. It also gave me a chance to take more risks in the cup and it paid off. A double with Marseille was really impressive considering I was up against some big purses of the game. I was satisfied with the accomplishment and was quickly looking towards the next challenge. This got me onto Benfica. I overlooked they didn't make Champions League (although made Europa league) but knew they could be top 2 finishers at worst. I applied for the Benfica position where Marseille had to be paid off to get me to come onboard. The french fans obviously was not happy and felt I did not repay their loyalty in me. I sited reasons of an opportunity to further my career further to try soften the blow.
Benfica - Portugal
Not an awfully competitive league, Benfica surprisingly gave me very little funds to work with. Financially they were struggling and saw transfer to revenue ration slashed more than once. Wages was really hard to come by and great talent was not always interested in joining this league. With only Europa League, cup and title to look forward to I decided to ensure I had at least a fairly big squad to work with. Rotation was key but I did settle on great forwards (Jiminez, Salvio) on a regular basis. I managed to win both title and cup and actually got fairly far in Europa league. Benfica as in the real world have a fairly good record in Europa and I found that this showed in the game. Porto and Sporting were also distracted and failed to keep up with the eagles. At the end Benfica clinched a memorable title and cup double. Benfica made an attempt to make me stay, but I immediately jumped at the opportunity to manage Arsenal. Again, I had to apply and lure Arsenal to get them to pay off Benfica to make the switch. Thankfully I convinced Arsenal board and they swiftly made me an offer.
Arsenal - England
This really turned out to be the toughest of the lot. Arsenal were financially in a good space. I received 80m pounds to spend. I largely got into this role because Wenger decided to retire. I immediately saw that Arsenal were previous runners up to Man City on goal difference. I took a big gamble and decided to sell the Arsenal faithful that Wenger still relied on. I landed up doing a Benitez spend. I sold players and got transfer kitty up to 180m and then bought for 180m aswell. I invested in Batra and Mangala as by centre back pairing. Jordi Alba shortly arrived. I kept Ramsey, Walcott (sold him in January window) and Sanchez. I brought in my reliable Rulli. I got rid of Metasacker and Giroud amongst others. I invested in El Sharwaay (spelling !) and Malcolm the young brazilian. Victor Fischer also proved a useful addition. The end was really close (which I will cover in another post), but Arsenal landed up taking the title and champions league. This was remarkable as both competitions hadn't been won for years. I must say I feared the sack should I have lost either but thankfully pulled through at the end. This then gave me the big ticket to apply for Real Madrid. The eve before the Champions league final I was called for the interview. Arsenal made last attempt to try and keep me...but you know the ending...Real madrid paid over 6m pounds to get me onboard.
Real Madrid - Spain
A new chapter begins. 50m+ pounds to spend and a really great players. More will be shared on this later as the season unfolds. The team has been modified slightly. Milan swooped and met the the 44m pound release clause for young Odegaard (under my nose actually). I decided to bring in more spanish players and traded Kroos for Martinex and invested in Montoya the right wing back. Griezmann was also snapped up and young Zivkovic was added. Zlatan also game in on a free (thanks Villa Boas). With Bale and Ronaldo also at the helm I am hoping we have enough goals in the team to take on Barcelona. As always the Real Madrid spot is a hot seat. Winning the league is a must...More to follow.

Goal: Start unemployed. Look to be a league champion in the highest league in the following 7 european countries in no particular order:
- Holland
- Portugal
- France
- Spain
- England
- Germany
- Italy
Pick up as many titles and trophies as you can in at least 7 seasons of management across Europe.
Rules:
- Once you have landed your first job from unemployment, the only way to move to the next nation is to win the title in that country. You are not allowed to move nations until you have completed that nation. So choose wisely the team and league you go for upfront or on your journey.
- You are not allowed to move nations without winning the title in that nation first. You can swap teams in the same nation if required or if the opportunity arises to improve your odds.
- You are welcome to apply for available jobs at the end of a season only (after last league match played). You can do this because you have won a title in the nation, or you looking to change teams in the same nation to get to win the title.
- If you get sacked in any part of the journey, you LOSE the challenge. As you move swiftly to a new nation or team ensure you can meet the objectives of that team to avoid the sacking. Also don't ruin the chance of jumping clubs and facing the sack.
- Resignation as management is allowed but only if you win the title (your club may push you to do this if they find out you looking/applying elsewhere). Movement between clubs is either through an offer from another club or applying for a vacant position at a new club or through resignation. If you don't win title, you have to try remain in that nation until you do.
- Order of nations is at your own discretion. Choose wisely.
- Setting on your player profile: Start with experience and all badges.
#271960 The Fallen Giant Challenge - Liverpool
rogeriofza
#200967 Wolves - Leader of the Pack
rogeriofza
Introduction
Right! New challenge on the cards for FM2014. A good friend and I have decided to take a Championship side and get promotion into the Premiership at first time asking (I hope).
We have both done this before with Leeds and Nottingham Forest in the FM13 series. I recently also took Brighton in FM14 series to the premier league stage also, so I have some expectation of what to expect…but obviously can’t take too much for granted.
Why Wolves? Well there is just something about them. I am a die hard Liverpool fan, but Wolves by virtue of their name speaks to the challenge ahead - dominate and become a leader of the pack. The long term goal is to get to rub shoulders with the elite of football and beat the best (and win silverware!). Also, this will give me a great opportunity to learn more about the club itself and perhaps even its history.
Since their inception into the league in 1888, they were champions of the old first division 3 times and came runners up on 5 occasions. They have been runners up in the 1972 UEFA cup and 4 times runner up and winner of the prestigious FA Cup. Most notably their last real silverware most recognised in todays topflight football was their League Cup triumph in 1980 (where they previously won the competition in 1974). So its fair to say that Wolves have in their past enjoyed some success, but its been 34 years since there has been something worth celebrating with their fans.
They were last in the premiership in 2011-2012 season. If you can re-call Mick McCarthy was dismissed after a run of 1 win in 13 games. That left assistant manager Terry Connor to lead the team to premiership survival with 13 games left. Obviously not even Terry could avoid the drop and they finished last on 25 points with 23 losses. Clearly, the drop was needed to help them prepare for being more sustainable and consistent in the premiership. From the premiership drop, things got worse. They then relegated from the npower Championship by coming second last. Clearly a low point for the club as they had to now prepare for League One. This is where the wolf needed to sink its teeth. In 2013-2014 season they won League One to get promotion back to the now named SkyBet Championship. They now find themselves back on the promotion push to the premiership.
Different managers have different styles when it comes to promotion pushes. Some like to get the right players in thats going to do the job and worry about the premiership dynamics when actually there. This strategy is probably more short term focused, but it does have its drawbacks if you fail to get promoted and could bring about large change in your first season if promoted.
Some on the other hand look further ahead and maybe invest in players that provide that quality to get you promoted but that could become an important squad player to help you staying in the premiership after promotion. Its always a balance, but there is no denying the funds the club are prepared to give you. This is where its important to buy and sell (if you need) very smartly. Sometimes if you think a player is good enough caliber for the premiership you would offer a longer contract. If not, perhaps a short term contract might be better (considering you might offload once in the premiership).
Loans can also be very effective and nice way to fill the required gaps at with some quality from other higher profile clubs. But it does come at a cost. Wages. The wage budget is probably just as important as the transfer funds. If you find yourself over budget it could cripple the club (especially if you don’t get promotion).
In principle, goals is what wins games and relying on a striker or two to get those goals consistently is important. Equally a defence that you can rely on to keep clean sheets helps. The goal shouldn’t be to make the play-offs but rather to win the championship. That’s the target we have to have in mind with Wolves and adjust the target when and if required. I have never been a big believer of aim low or what is necessary. Aim high, cause you bound to fall short.
Well lets cut to the chase and start putting action to words (firing up the game). I look forward to sharing this journey and hopefully it ends with Wolves dominating english and european football for seasons to come.
