Chapter 1 — The Day Everything Changed

Every player grows up with a dream: to become a professional, to feel the roar of the crowd, to wear the captain’s armband and lead his team to glory.

For me, that dream felt so close.
As a teenager, I was the heart of my youth team — an attacking midfielder, captain, and the one teammates looked to when the game grew tough. My coach believed in me, and for a moment, I believed I was destined for greatness.

Then came the day that changed everything.
The trials. The chance to prove myself. The one opportunity every young player lives for.

But fate had other plans. I woke up that morning sick, my body heavy, my lungs weak. Still, I went. Still, I tried. But every touch was slower, every pass weaker. I wasn’t myself.

And when the final whistle blew, I knew what was coming.
I had failed.

What hurt more than failure was what I saw next: players with powerful connections, sons of “friends of the club,” were chosen ahead of me. Not because they were better — but because the system was never built for players like me.

My coach, the one who believed in me, looked on helplessly. He knew the truth, but his voice wasn’t enough. And just like that, my dream of becoming a professional footballer was over.

I tried again, moving from club to club, chasing another chance. But I never reached the same level. The fire inside me slowly dimmed… until the day I walked away.

That day, I made myself a promise.
If I couldn’t change the game on the pitch as a player, I would change it from the touchline.

I would become a manager.
Not for fame. Not for money. But to prove that talent and hard work should matter more than politics and privilege.

This is where my story begins. Not as a footballer… but as a journeyman manager.

The Road to the Dugout

On the day I hung up my boots, I made myself a promise: if I couldn’t change the game on the pitch, I would change it from the touchline.

I threw myself into coaching.

  • I studied, saved every euro I could, and applied for courses.
  • I earned my National B License, sitting in classrooms with others who once played professionally while I scribbled notes, determined to catch up.
  • I spent nights watching matches, pausing, rewinding, analyzing tactics. Football was no longer just passion — it became obsession.

But obsession doesn’t pay the bills.
When my license was complete, I started applying. Club after club, inbox after inbox. Silence. Rejections. The occasional polite email: “We’ve chosen a more experienced candidate.”

Still, I kept going. Because journeymen don’t quit — we endure.

A New Beginning

And then, one night, an email arrived.
An opportunity in the depths of Italy’s lower leagues. A club willing to take a chance on me.

My heart raced. This was it. The first step of the journey.

I didn’t know where it would lead — Serie B, Serie A, maybe even Europe. But I knew one thing:

The journey had finally begun…
