The last time the two sides met at Goodison Park, Everton were lucky to escape with a 1-0 win thanks to a Nikica Jelavic goal.
The other ties in the round see Sunderland travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal. The previous fixture between the two sides saw Sunderland win by one goal to nil at the Stadium of Light. Another all Premier League tie sees Fulham and Aston Villa lock horns at Villa Park and Crewe will be looking to cause a major upset when they host Manchester City.

Moyes delighted with Swansea win
28th October 2012
By John Warrington
Everton manager David Moyes has hailed his side after Everton dominated Swansea at the Liberty Stadium, winning by three goals to one.
In an interview after the game at the Liberty Stadium, Moyes said: "What a fantastic result that was. We played absolutely brilliantly and to dominate like that was great to see. My only criticism would be that we should have taken more chances and won by an even more convincing scoreline. Saying that, we were without our number one goalscorer so all in all, I have to be pleased with three goals."
Moyes added: "This just proves that we can play without Nikica Jelavic and that we can score goals without him. Anyone calling us a one man team has now been proven well and truly wrong after that result. Swansea are not a bad side so to come here and dominate like we did is a massive feather in the cap for the players."
Everton manager Moyes was also quick to praise the contribution of summer signing Wellington Nem. "Wellington has come in and done absolutely fantastic for us. He's settled in quickly and his form on the pitch has been just electric. Hopefully he can continue playing like he is an become one of the best ever Everton signings."

Everton rocked by Jelavic injury
7th October 2012
By John Warrington
Surprise Premier League leaders Everton have been rocked by the news that top goalscorer Nikica Jelavic will be out injured for up to 4 weeks with a broken wrist.
Croatian striker Jelavic picked up the injury during yesterday's 3-0 win over Reading after falling awkwardly after an Ian Harte challenge. Early indications suggest that Jelavic will be out for up to a month, meaning he will miss Everton's trips to Swansea and Tottenham along with the visit of Manchester City to Goodison Park.
Speaking to Rachel Wyse live on Sky Sports News, David Moyes said: "It's a massive blow to lose Nikica at this point or any point during the season. He is a prolific goalscorer and we will certainly miss him whilst he is out injured. Hopefully some of the younger players like Vellios can now come in and stake a claim for a starting place by making an impact and finding the back of the net."

Forth Round Draw
29th September 2012
By Darren Craven
Capital One cup holders Liverpool will have to come through a tough test if they are to retain the cup after they were drawn away to Man City at Eastlands in the fourth round.
Liverpool and Manchester City did meet in last year's Capital One Cup with the two teams battling it out in a two legged affair in the semi finals. It was Liverpool that came through and interestingly, they managed to pick up a 1-0 away at Eastlands, a result which will give them confidence going into their 4th round tie against the Manchester side.
Elsewhere in the draw Bristol City, who caused a shock in the last round as they knocked out Manchester United, will face Liverpool's Merseyside rivals Everton at Goodison Park. The lowest placed club in the hat for the fourth round, Crewe Alexandra, have been handed a home tie against Dougie Freedman's Bolton. Premier League Reading don't have far too travel as they travel to the Emirates to play fellow Premier League club Arsenal.
Another all Premier League tie sees Michael Laudrup's Swansea take on Paul Lambert's Aston Villa at the Liberty Stadium. Recent winners of the competition Birmingham will travel to Fulham and AVB's Tottenham travel to Blackpool. The one remaining tie in the forth round sees Blackburn travel to Sunderland.
The full draw is as follows:
Sunderland vs Blackburn
Fulham vs Birmingham
Everton vs Bristol City
Swansea vs Aston Villa
Blackpool vs Tottenham
Arsenal vs Reading
Crewe vs Bolton

Second Round Draw
16th August 2012
By Darren Craven
The Capital One Cup second round draw has thrown up some enthralling ties, the biggest of which being the meeting of Merseyside rivals Everton and Tranmere at Goodison Park.
The last time the two sides met in competitive action was in the 2000/01 FA cup 4th round when Tranmere went to Goodison Park and humiliated Everton, winning by three goals to nil on a day which is now described as 'St. Yates' Day' by Tranmere fans. Amazingly, there are no all Premier League ties in the second round draw meaning there is a high chance of a shock or two. For example, League Two could cause an almighty shock should they manage to win their tie away at Premier League side Reading.
Another Premier League vs League Two tie sees Plymouth travel to West Brom with West Brom's Midlands rivals Aston Villa facing a trip to Ipswich. Oxford will look to cause a shock when they travel to Bolton and Wycombe Wanderers host Burnley. Championship Blackburn will travel to Portsmouth, a fixture famed for being the fixture where Gillette Soccer Saturday's Chris Kamara missed a red card for a Portsmouth player, causing much laughing in the studio.
Five Premier League sides face trips to League One opposition as Sunderland travel to Oldham, Swansea to Carlisle, Wigan to Doncaster, Fulham to Sheffield United and Norwich to Coventry. MK Dons face an away trip rather than a home tie as they travel to the Britannia Stadium to face Stoke. QPR will host Walsall at Loftus Road and Southampton will travel to Hillsborough to play Sheffield Wednesday.
The full draw is as follows:
Bristol City vs Wolves
Bournemouth vs Leeds
Sheff Wed vs Southampton
Sheff Utd vs Fulham
Wycombe vs Burnley
Ipswich vs Aston Villa
Oldham vs Sunderland
Carlisle vs Swansea
Coventry vs Norwich
Doncaster vs Wigan
Preston vs Brighton
Everton vs Tranmere

Everton recruit French right back
14th August 2012
By John Warrington
Everton have moved to replace long serving right back Tony Hibbert by signing Frenchman Christope Jallet from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of 3.9 million pounds.
28-year-old right back Christophe Jallet joins Everton from Paris Saint-Germain on a four year contact which is set to end in June 2016. In an interview with Everton FC.com, Jallet explained his decision to move and why he chose the blue half of Merseyside. He said: "I felt the time was right to move on from Paris Saint-Germain. I've had three great years there but I feel like I need a new challenge in order to keep my passion for football."
"Everton is exactly the right club to provide me with this challenge. They aren't the biggest team in England but from what I have seen there are one of the teams with the most soul and have the most passionate fans. The fans want European football and that is the aim for us to achieve. I would love nothing more than to achieve that for the fans, they deserve it. During my time at PSG, I felt that the fans never warmed to me as much as I'd like so I hope that isn't the case here."
"I can't wait to play my first game at Goodison Park. I've taken a look around the stadium and I have to say I'm impressed. Obviously it's not as good as the Parc des prices but it certainly gives it a run for it's money. I hope to make many appearances here, but first I have to make the team, which will not be easy. I've spoken to David and he said that I have competition in Phil (Neville) and Seamus (Coleman) so it will interesting to see if I can get in the side."

Moyes happy with squad
11th August 2012
By Dave Lewis
In an exclusive interview with EvertonFC.com, David Moyes said that he is happy with the squad and believes that no more transfers are urgently needed ahead of the new season.
Speaking with Everton's FC reporter Dave Lewis, Moyes said: "I am extremely happy with the squad as it is now. I believe we have depth all over the pitch, something that we have lacked in previous seasons. We have a mix of youth and experience and I believe that's vital to success at any football club. If you look at our squad as it is now, you have the likes of Craig Gordon, Darron Gibson and Leon Osman who might not even get many games. Everyone has to fight for their starting place now and whoever is in the starting eleven will have earned their place."
"Of course we are looking to replace Tony (Hibbert) but with Phil (Neville) and Seamus (Coleman), there is no urgent need to find a replacement. If the right player becomes available then we will sign someone but if not I am more than happy to start the season with Phil and Seamus as the options at right back. Other than right back, I don't see any other part of the pitch where we could possible strengthen in order to be more successful in the Premier League."

Villa defender completes Goodison switch
9th August 2012
Last updated at 17:23
Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark will play in blue this season, joining Everton, after the Merseyside club agreed a 3.7 million fee with the Midlands club.
It is believed that Clark has joined Everton on a three year contract after impressing Moyes during Aston Villa's 3-0 win over Milton Keynes Dons at Stadium:MK last week. Moyes' move for a defender comes as no surprise following the exit of Frenchman Sylvain Distin and Nigerian Joseph Yobo but whether Clark will go straight into the first team remains to be seen, especially with stiff competition from the likes of Phil Jagielka, Johnny Heitinga and Craig Dawson.
Clark has been with Aston Villa since he was just eleven years old and has previously captained the academy under eighteens side and the reserve side. He made his full Villa debut in August 2009, helping the team to a clean sheet as well as nearly scoring a goal. Over the course of his career, Clark has played forty-two games and scored five goals for Aston Villa. A feat he will at least be looking to replicate at Goodison Park. Clark has also made two appearances for Republic of Ireland at international level.

By John Warrington
Brazilian winger Wellington Nem will ply his trade in the Premier League after joining Everton for a fee of 3.5 million from Fluminense.
Everton manager David Moyes has chosen to activate the minimum fee release clause on the 20 year old Brazilian winger in order to bring him to Goodison Park. During his career, Nem has played a total of 64 games, scoring 19 goals and he was voted the best newcomer in the 2011 Brazilian league. Nem, whose full name is Wellington Silva Sanches Aguiar, has also made three appearances for the Brazilian national interest.
In broken English, Nem spoke of his happiness of joining Everton and playing in the Premier League. He said: "I am happy to be joining a good team like Everton. I have heard about Everton before and I think it is a good club. The Premier League is the best league in the world so it is lucky that I am able to play in it and I hope to play many times for Everton and help us get into the Champions League competition next season".

Hibbert in shock Everton exit
4th August 2012
Last updated at 22:44
Everton have announced the departure of long serving veteran Tony Hibbert, with the right back joining Aston Villa for a fee of 1.5 million pounds.
The departure of 31-year-old Hibbert has confused the majority of the Goodison Park faithful with the talk centering on why Hibbert has decided to leave the club he has been with for the whole of his career. During his time at Goodison, Hibbert has been regarded as somewhat of a hero and is famous for his inability to score for the senior first team side, with the fans adopting the catchphrase "If Hibbert scores, we riot".
Over the course of his career at Everton, the right back has played 309 games in all competitions with 253 of those appearances coming in the Premier League. Hibbert was the longest serving Everton player following his debut in the 2000/01 season and the only player to be present before the arrival of Manager David Moyes in 2002.
