Neville excited ahead of new season
1st August 2012
By Dave Lewis
Skipper Phil Neville has told EvertonFC.com how excited he is ahead of the new Premier League season and has said how important getting off to a good start will be.
Speaking after the 2-0 friendly win over Milton Keynes Dons at Stadium:MK, skipper Neville said: "I can't wait for the new season to begin. I think we have got the best squad that we've ever had and I really think that we can challenge the big boys in the Premier League now. We've signed some quality players this summer with the likes of Anderson coming in as well as some great young talent. You just have to take one look at Charlie Austin to know that he is going to be one hell of a player in a few years."
"Our main aim has got to be that we start the season well. In the past few seasons, we have always started poorly meaning we have been playing catch up throughout the season. If we can have a good start and maintain it, I am very confident that we can atleast qualify for the Europa League this season. It's down to us though. We know what we have to do, it's just a case of going out there on the pitch and delivering the right performances and the right results."

Oviedo signs for Everton
29th July 2012
Last updated at 09:18
Everton have signed Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo from FC Copenhagen on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old, who can play at left-back or in midfield, is expected to cost David Moyes's team £5m. Oviedo has 13 senior caps and has been a regular starter for Copenhagen, where he has won two Danish League titles.
Blues assistant manager Steve Round says Oviedo, who also has Champions League experience, has been on the Everton radar for some time. He said: "He can play left-back, left midfield and left wing, all the way down the left, which will help us and give us good cover in the squad. I have seen him on a regular basis. I have been abroad and watched him, as have all the scouts and the manager."
Oviedo told Everton's website: "The last two or three days have been very stressful and tiring but I am so happy now. I am feeling good and right now everything is positive. I know a lot about Everton. I watch Everton games and Premier League games on the TV and it is a very good league."

Cresswell in Merseyside return
28th July 2012
By John Warrington
Ipswich left back Aaron Cresswell has joined Everton for a fee of 1.8 million pounds after signing a three year deal at the Merseyside club.
22-year-old left back Cresswell is no stranger to Merseyside after beginning his career across the River Mersey at Tranmere Rovers where he scored 5 goals in 70 appearances. It was just last season that Cresswell joined Ipswich for a fee of 240k, on a three year deal. Last season, Cresswell was excellent as he played 44 times for Paul Jewell's Ipswich and was subsequently named the supporters' player of the season.
In an interview with Sky Sports News, Cresswell explained how excited he was to be joining the blue half of Merseyside and how he couldn't wait to get going. "It's a fantastic opportunity for me. I know it's going to be hard for me to break into the first team but to join a club of such high stature in the Premier League is a dream come true. The move to Everton is great for me because it means I am closer to my family which is always a bonus. I hope that sooner rather than later, they will be able to see me play at Goodison Park."

Cahill joins New York Red Bulls
26th July 2012
Last updated at 13:55
Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has completed his move to Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls, subject to international clearance.
The fee is believed to be in the region of £1m for the 32-year-old. The Australian spent eight years at Goodison Park, scoring 56 goals in 226 league games. We are absolutely thrilled to bring in a player of Tim's calibre ," said New York Red Bulls general manager and sporting director Erik Soler.
"He is the technical, physical presence we have been looking to add in our team and he brings a wealth of experience to our club having played in some of the highest levels of international soccer," he added.
Cahill, who joined Everton in 2004 for £1.5m from Millwall, said: "I am very happy to start a new chapter of my career with the New York Red Bulls. I also want to thank everyone at Everton, from the club to tremendous supporters. It has been a privilege to be an Everton player for the past eight years and it was a very difficult decision to leave."
The club will officially introduce Cahill to the media at a press conference on Monday. Cahill moved to England in August 1997, joining Millwall from hometown side Sydney United on a free transfer. The Australian scored three goals in Millwall's run to the FA Cup final, including the winning strike against Sunderland in the semi-final. The London side lost 3-0 to Manchester United in the Millennium Stadium final.
An attacking midfielder, he made his international debut in 2004 and has played for Australia at the last two World Cups in Germany and South Africa. Cahill, who signed a four-year contract with the Toffees as recently as May 2010, was a fans' favourite at Goodison Park but only scored three goals last season after going the whole of 2010 without finding the net.

Yobo seals permanent Goodison exit
25th July 2012
By John Warrington
Joseph Yobo has become Everton's second defensive departure of the day, following Sylvain Distin out of Goodison, to join Fenerbahce for an undisclosed fee.
The Nigerian defender had been on loan at the Turkish outfit for the past two seasons and he has now signed a three-year deal, leaving for an undisclosed fee. The first of his two loan spells was for the 2010/11 campaign when Yobo helped the Istanbul-based side win the league. He briefly returned to Everton in the summer of 2011 while the two clubs discussed his future, with a second season-long loan ensuing. Last term he played 42 times for Fenerbahce as they finished runners-up in the league and won the Turkish Cup.
Yobo said after signing his deal at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium: "I would love to thank Everton and the management of Fenerbahce for reaching a deal.
“My family have settled well in Turkey and enjoy the life there so I'm glad they will be reuniting with friends here. The permanent switch is done and I am also switching to help the team do well on the pitch. It's been a long journey into achieving this dream and now is the time to pay the club and fans back with a great performance."
Yobo, whose Everton contract was set to run until 2014, joined the Blues in 2002, is Nigeria’s captain and made over 250 appearances for the Toffees. He was David Moyes’ first signing as Everton manager. His last game for the Club was in May 2010, a 0-0 draw at Stoke.

Distin joins Stade Rennais
24th July 2012
Last updated at 10:34
Everton defender Sylvain Distin has joined Stade Rennais on a two year deal after Everton and Stade Rennais agreed a 450k fee.
Frenchman Distin has been with Everton for the past three seasons after joining from Portsmouth for a fee of 5.25 million pounds. During his career at Everton, the 34-year-old centre back has played a total of 115 games for the Merseyside club and scored a total of 5 goals. At the end of last season, Distin was voted Everton's Player's Player of the year despite a mistake in the FA Cup semi final against Liverpool which costed Everton a place in the FA Cup final.
On his departure from Goodison, Distin said: "I'm sad to be leaving Everton after 3 excellent years here on Merseyside. I have loved every minute of my time here but with the arrival of Craig Dawson, I felt it was time for me to move on. When the chance to move back to France came along, there was no way I could say no and I can't wait to get started at Stade Rennais."

Everton sign Kevin Mirallas
24th July 2012
By John Warrington
Merseyside club Everton have signed Belgian forward Kevin Mirallas on a four-year deal from Olympiakos for a fee of approximately £6m.
Mirallas, 24, can play both up front and out wide, and scored 20 goals in 25 appearances last season. "I am very happy because Everton is a big club and for me it's a very good opportunity," he told the club's official website. "I've known Everton have been following me for a while and after talking with the manager I decided coming to Everton was the best opportunity for me. I know this is a great club with great supporters and a club that has the ability win a lot of games in the Premier League. That's why I came."
Mirallas, who has scored seven times for Belgium, helped Olympiakos to the Greek league championship last season - their 39th title in their history. The Belgian has also played for Lille and Saint-Etienne, and his arrival will be a further reshuffle of David Moyes' forward options after signing of Nikica Jelavic from Rangers in a £5.5m deal in January.
During that time, Louis Saha left the club on a free transfer and Denis Stracqualursi has returned to Tigre after a season-long loan spell at Goodison Park. The arrival of Mirallas also adds to the Belgian contingent in the Premier League - one of whom, Marouane Fellaini, also plays for Everton.

Everton capture Championship hotshot
22nd July 2012
Last updated at 14:56
Everton have made yet another signing after today completing the signing of Burnley striker Charlie Austin for a fee of 4.1 million.
The signing of Austin, 23, comes as no surprise to the majority of Everton fans given the reputation of David Moyes, who has a habit of signing players from the Championship and developing their talents. Former Swindon striker Austin has joined Everton on a three year deal and will be looking to continue his good goalscoring return. All the way through his career, Austin has been prolific in front of goal, a fact David Moyes mentioned after signing the striker.
"Charlie is a fantastic signing for us. You just have to look at his goal scoring record to see that he is naturally gifted. Nobody scores that many goals without having some serious talent and I'm looking forward to seeing him play in front of a packed house at Goodison Park. Of course he is going to have to prove himself, he has never played in the Premier League before. I have confidence that Charlie can easily make the step up to the highest level and hopefully he can form a great partnership with Jelavic."

Warnock move ruled out
20th July 2012
By John Warrington
Stephen Warnock will not be joining Everton this summer after Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert stated that the former Liverpool left back was not for sale.
Earlier this week, the former Blackburn left back was linked with a 2 million pound move back to Merseyside to join Everton and provide back up for Leighton Baines but this will not be the case. In an interview live on Sky Sports News, Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert moved to rubbish the claims and state that Stephen Warnock was not for sale at any price.
"Stephen is not for sale, it's as simple as that. He is a vital part of my plans for the upcoming season and selling him would quite frankly be an idiotic decision. Besides, Stephen is worth a lot more than the 2 million pound fee quoted and I personally think it's an insult to him to only be valued that much. Warnock is one of the best left backs in the country and we are lucky to have him here at Villa Park."

Gordon becomes latest Everton signing
20th July 2012
Last updated at 15:42
Former Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon has become the latest signing at Everton after joining the club on a free transfer.
The 29-year-old Scot has been available on a free since being released by Sunderland in May of this year and welcomed his move back into professional football. Speaking to BBC Sport, Gordon said: "It's such a relief to be back in football. Being released from Sunderland was one of the worst moments of my life and I feel so lucky to be given a second chance in the Premier League and with such a great club."
"I'd like to thank David for giving me this opportunity and having belief in me. I know it's going to be hard for me to work my way into the first team eleven with Tim (Howard) being fit and playing well but I'm going to do my level best to impress in training and prove that I have what it takes to be Everton's number one for years to come."
Gordon won the Best save in the 20 seasons of the Premier League award earlier this year for a save against Bolton Wanderers in December 2010. In total he played 88 games for Sunderland during his five year spell at the Stadium of Light. He has also been capped 40 times for Scotland after making his debut in 2004.

Warnock linked with Merseyside return
18th July 2012
Last updated at 16:18
Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has been linked to a return to Merseyside to provide back up for England international Leighton Baines at Everton.
According to BBC sources, David Moyes is keen to acquire the services of Warnock, to provide backup for England international Leighton Baines. It is believed that a fee of 2 million pounds would be enough to convince Aston Villa to part with the 30-year-old left back. However, it is not 100% clear as to whether or not David Moyes would be willing to part with the cash for just a back-up player.
Last season, Warnock made a total of 35 appearances for the Midlands club and scored 2 goals. Warnock has been virtually an ever present since his 6.75 million move from Blackburn in August 2009. Prior to playing for Blackburn, Warnock spent the early years of his playing career at Liverpool, the club where he started his career at.

Duffy going nowhere

By Michael Donnely
EvertonFC.com can today confirm that 20 year old defender Shane Duffy will not be leaving the blues in the transfer window after speaking to both Everton manager David Moyes and Shane Duffy himself.
In an exclusive interview, the boss David Moyes said: "We have no intention of selling Shane Duffy to anyone let alone our Merseyside rivals Liverpool. Jack is a vital part of our squad as he provides excellent back up in defence. Selling him would be an stupid move and I can assure the Everton fans that Shane Duffy is going nowhere. I've spoken to Jack and I know why he was talking to Brendan Rodgers and it has been taken completely out of context.
EvertonFC.com was also able to catch up with Shane Duffy to get his side of the story, he said: "It's been taken way out of context. The only reason why I was talking to Rodgers was to ask him directions to the Red Hot Buffet place in Liverpool One as I was meeting my girlfriend there. I have absolutely no intention of leaving Everton. Everton is in my soul and I couldn't bear to leave. Everton gave me my chance in football and I want to continue to play here for as long as possible.

Everton's young centre back Shane Duffy could be on his way out of Goodison Park after being linked with a move to fellow Premier League side Liverpool.
The link comes after the Everton youngster was spotted in the heart of Liverpool city centre seemingly in a deep conversation with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. With Jamie Carragher coming to the end of his fairytale Liverpool career, it seems that Rodgers looking for a young centre back to become the new Jamie Carragher type player.
Duffy, 20, has played a total of four appearances in the Everton first team with two of those appearances coming against Tottenham and Aston Villa in the Premier League last season. In the first half of last season, Duffy was sent on loan to League One Scunthorpe United where he played 18 games. During his time at Scunthorpe, he scored his one and only senior goal, a header against Tranmere Rovers.

Victor Anichebe and Ross Barkley have departed Goodison on loan for the duration of the season, joining Burnley and Leeds respectively.
24-year-old Nigerian striker Anichebe has spent his entire career at the Merseyside club, coming through the Everton youth system. The striker has played a total of 104 games for Everton and scored 12 goals, with the majority of his time on Merseyside being hit by injury problems. Dawson agrees Everton terms

Craig Dawson looks set to complete a move to Everton, with the central defender set to take part in a medical on Monday morning.
The 22-year-old centre back has been at West Brom for two years after signing for the Midlands club from Rochdale in 2010. He didn't make his West Brom debut until the following season as he was instantly loaned back to Rochdale for the 2010/11 season. He made his competitive Baggies debut in a 4-1 Carling Cup win at Bournemouth in August 2011. He has made a total of 8 appearances for West Brom.
Everton are just one of many clubs that are reported to be interested in the 22-year-old, and appear to be the front-runner with Craig Dawson set to take part in a medical on Monday morning.
A statement on the Everton FC official website read:
"Everton Football Club are delighted to announce that West Brom have accepted a bid for centre back Craig Dawson and the player has agreed terms. Champions City in Rodwell capture
13th July 2012
Last updated at 9:47
Premier League champions Manchester City have confirmed the signing of English midfielder Jack Rodwell from Everton for £12m.
The 21-year-old has signed a five-year deal and the fee could rise to £17m. Rodwell completed a medical with the Premier League champions on Sunday before signing a deal to become Roberto Mancini's first signing of the summer.
"Man City are a massive club, the league champions, so it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It's a dream come true. It will be an amazing experience to make my debut in front of them [Manchester City supporters] if I am selected to play," Rodwell said.
"Obviously I knew the squad is immense with talent here but I believe in my ability. I've just got to work my way into the manager's plans and hopefully things will go well. The hard work starts today as I start to help contribute to the club winning more silverware. The season has started really well with the Community Shield win."
Rodwell rose through Everton's youth system after joining the Premier League club at the age of seven. He represented England at four junior levels before making his senior debut in the friendly win over Spain, replacing Phil Jones as a 56th-minute substitute. Three days later, Rodwell started his first full international, playing 58 minutes against Sweden before being replaced by James Milner.
"I would like to place on record my thanks to everyone at Everton. The manager David Moyes has been brilliant for me and helped make me the player that I am today," said Rodwell. "I have a special relationship with the chairman, Bill Kenwright, who did not want me to leave." Rodwell revealed that despite his long-standing ties to the Toffees, talks about a move to City had been going on for a while.
"It's been kept under wraps quite nicely. It's been going on for the past couple of weeks but the last couple of days it's progressed really quickly. I'm just pleased it's done," he added.

Everton release six
10th July 2012
Last Updated at 19:38
Everton have released six players as their contracts were set to expire, with James McFadden, Marcus Hahnemann and four others shown the door.
The 40 year old goalkeeper joined Everton on a free transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but a year later, he has been released without making a single first team appearance for the blue half of Merseyside. This will be a disappointment for the American considering only 2 years ago his form ranked him as "the Best Goalkeeper in the World" using the Castrol Performance Index system.
McFadden, who re-joined the Toffees last October, made only 5 appearances this season, and failed to score in the process. In his first stint on Merseyside, the 29-year-old notched up 139 appearances, scoring 18 goals, but has struggled to break into the first-team after returning from Birmingham City.
Among the other faces on the way out are two players who have featured regularly for the Blues this season, with loanees Denis Stracqualursi and Royston Drenthe returning to Tigres and Real Madrid respectively. The Dutch winger, who recently hit the headlines with racism allegations aimed at Lionel Messi, has not featured since being disciplined by manager David Moyes for a breach of club discipline in April. Reserve team players Adam Davies, Connor Roberts, Aristote Nsiala and Femi Orenuga are the remaining names who have also left the club.

Gueye delight at Everton exit

French born Senegalese winger Magaye Gueye has joined Championship club Nottingham Forest after Forest agreed a three million pound deal with Everton.
The 22-year-old winger spoke of his delight following the confirmation of his move to the Championship side. "I'm so excited to join Forest and play regular first team football. I feel like my move to Everton has been a waste of time and I'm extremely happy to be leaving."
"To only play 32 times for a team like Everton in two years is an absolute joke for a player of my class and ability, I should have been starting every game. I am really looking forward to playing in the Championship with Nottingham Forest and challenging for titles and promotion at a domestic level."
Everton boss David Moyes has slammed the comments from the young French winger, "Unbelievable. Does he not realise that if he wasn't injured so much, he may have actually played? It's very unprofessional of him to say such things about a great club like Everton. I wish him luck at Forest but one thing is for sure, Everton will go on without him with ease."

Mucha leaves Everton

Slovakian goalkeeper Jan Mucha has left Goodison Park after agreeing a three year deal at Manchester United after the two clubs agreed a 1.7 million pound fee.
Mucha has became the second summer signing for Alex Ferguson's Manchester United and will do battle with David De Gea for the number 1 jersey in Manchester. In a statement on the official Manchester United website, Ferguson revealed his delight at the capture of Mucha.
"We are delighted that we have been able to bring Jan to the club. I would personally like to welcome him to the club. It's not every day that you can get an international player for just below 2 million pounds and we knew we had to snap him up. Jan is a quality keeper and I'm looking forward to seeing him play in the red shirt. He's the perfect back up for David De Gea"
The Slovakian international joined Everton in a free following the 2010 world cup but only made two appearances for the blue half of Merseyside. Both games came in the Carling (Now Capital One) Cup. He played in the 5-1 demolition of Huddersfield at Goodison Park and the penalty shootout loss away at Brentford. Mucha saved a penalty during normal time of the Brentford game.

Argentine striker Denis Stracqualursi has confirmed that he won't be returning to Everton this season following his loan spell at the Merseyside club last season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Stracqualursi had this to say: "I won't be returning to Everton for next season. I loved my time at Everton but with the signing of Steven Naismith, I feel I am no longer required. I'll be returning to Tigre in Argentina where I hope to score many goals. I'd like to thank Everton for giving me the chance to experience the Premier League and I wish them all the best for the new season."
Everton manager David Moyes added: "I'd like to thank Denis for all his hard work last season and I wish him al the best back in Argentina. He's a good player and I'm sure he will score many goals for them. With the signing of Steven Naismith, he wouldn't really get a look in as a regular starter so it's best that he goes back."
During his time on Merseyside, the Argentine striker played a total of 27 games for Everton and scored 3 goals in the blue shirt. His first goal was against Fulham in the 4th round of the FA Cup. He also scored in the 5th round in a win against Blackpool. His one and only Premier League goal came in a 2-0 win over Chelsea. His best performance for Everton came in a game he failed to score in as he played a key role in the 1-0 victory over eventual champions Manchester City.
