I've started as Patrick Thistle, who are predicted to finish 5th, they have a small but good, young squad. With a few additions they could become a very good squad for this level.
Here's a view of what the squad looks like on the first day of the job.
Strengths
We have a large midfield filled with quality players, hopefully this group can dominate the physical side to Scottish football. We also have some good options up front to compliment this. The clubs finances are all in order and are working on a tight wage budget.
Weaknesses
We have no transfer budget and could do with strengthening at the back. I will have to look into the loan and free transfer market for a solution to this.

I've taken up Rick87's The Sir Alex Ferguson Challenge and I will be doing it 'The Fergie Way', well sort of. I will be updating it every few months or if anything drastic happens.
I will follow two of the rules to the letter:

Cheers! If there's a job suitable available will resign. When I choose Patrick Thistle, I completely forgot about the first part of the challenge. If I don't get promotion I hope to take over the relegated SPL side and if I win the league, I'll move on to the next stage.

I noticed that our balance had been dropping dramatically so I had to ship out a few players. I also brought in two new players as replacements at no cost for the club.
A product of Celtic youth academy, Mark Fotheringham joins until the end of the season with Ross County footing his wage bill.
Aberdeen youngster Clark Robertson fills the void left by the wantaway Aaron Sinclair. Again like Fotheringham his wages are paid by his parent club.

Cheers, over half the squad are out of contract in the summer. I cant afford to tie all of them down so I'm in for a tough year next year.

I made two signings and found a nice little loop-hole that allows us to play trialists for up to 3 matches which could come in handy when our squad is knackered. We missed Kris Doolan this month who was ruled out for 2 months injured.
Derek Riordan joined until the end of the season with an extra year if he plays 15 matches. He has a bad reputation in the world of Scottish football, but hopefully I can get him in line for his final few year. He made an instant impact scoring a brace on his debut.
Another former Celt, Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe, joins the cub until the end of the season also with the view to an extra year. He will replace the departing Stephen O'Donnell, who sits in our reserves for misconduct, and is joining Plymouth for £12k. It's not much but it will free up £200 wages and we have a 20% sell on fee for a player who would leave for nothing in the summer.
Maceo Rigters gives us a new dynamic to our attack. The Dutchman put us over our wage budget, hopefully we can shift some deadwood in January.

We’ve turned things round dramatically since I brought in my new players. February was a big month for us that left us 3 points off 7th place with some tough fixtures out the way. We also sailed through to the Europa League last 16 with a 6-0 win over Basel.
Manchester City look to be running away with the title again and both of my old clubs aren’t doing to well in the standings.

I also added two more defenders to the squad before the end of the transfer window.
Bradley Donaldson joined to booster our defence and offer us an extra option at both centre and right back. He looks like a no nonsense defender who can win a ball an clear it.
Scott Rumsby also joins on loan until the end of the season, another central defender to thicken up our back line.
I tried to flog Stephen O'Donnell despite his potential, however I received no offers and he has been placed in the reserves until he apologises or his contract runs out.
We have another youngster getting too big for his boots and has been placed on the transfer list. Aaron Sinclair will remain in the first team unless he acts up like O'Donnell.

First to be shown the Fergie treatment was young right back Steven O'Donnell who thinks it's time to move on. He has requested a transfer and been placed on the transfer list, however nobody's interested in him.
We played a few pre-season matches and preformed pretty well, this also gave me chance to mess about with tactics.
The highlight of pre-season was the draw SPL side Ross County, we fought back after going behind twice to seal a good result. The Cumnock result was disappointing as it would have been good going into the first competitive fixture.
Two players have joined the club to give the defence a boost.
First in was Scott Morrison to give us an extremely good choice at left back, between him and Aaron Sinclair. He joined on a free transfer and has the option of an extra year, if he reaches 20 games.
I brought in another right back to offer me an option if I lose O'Donnell. The club are paying half of Mark Bradley who has joined from Rotherham until the end of the season.

After such a good start beating Everton 2-1 at Anfield. It all went downhill fast after giving away the lead to Werder Bremen and picking up a single point from the remaining fixtures.
A lot of overpaid players left and raised £56m to re-invest into the squad. With this I managed to bring in 5 good players.
Tom Huddleston is a good signing for us at only £6m, he still has a few good year left in the tank and will be a big part of my plans taking the club forward.
Gylfi Sigurdsson is another good signing, costing us £8m from Borussia Dortmund. He offers an extra option in the middle of the park and a creative addition to the squad.
I braught in Guillermo Burdisso to replace Daniel Agger and Martin Skertel he looks solid at the back and cost us £10m from Palermo.
My most expensive signing was Mateo Kovacic from Inter for a cool £15m, the youngster has huge potential and could be a future captain.
I needed another defender for cover at the back and Joel Veltman joined the club for a bargain £4m form Ajax.

I’ve joined the club with them sitting 11th in the league and have already qualified for the last 32 of the Europa League. I am aiming to finish 7th place, one place below our predicted finish at the end of the season.
Liverpool have a lot of high earners who aren’t pulling their way and will be moved on, mostly at the end of the season.

Why did I choose to leave Cardiff?
I have a good budget to invest in the squad in January and a few high earners will leave the club.

The Liverpool job became available and I applied for it. The board were unhappy and forced me to either apologise or resign. I choose the later. I felt I had taken them as far as I can without a tycoon takeover.
The club now sit 10th in the table, with Liverpool 11th. I leave Cardiff with a strong squad, more than capable of a top half finish. My final match as manager we beat rivals Swansea, a good way to part company with the club.
Now we play the waiting game.

We had a decent pre-season which allowed some of the new signings to show me what they can do and win a place in the squad.
Striker Joe Mason was the latest player to leave as he wanted more first team football and hadn't developed as well as I had hoped.
Six foot three Danny Batth is one of the best young English defenders in the game so snapping him up at £3.5m was a no brainer. I tried to sign him last year but we lacked the funds.
Welsh international Hal Robson-Kanu should add some much needed options on the wings and provide competition for Nathan Redmond and Gary Mackay-Steven, he also cost £3.5m
Rene Garly was my final signing of the window, the young Dane cost just £2m.

I was re-united with Gary Mackay-Steven, paying Stoke £3.5m for his services after a year in the Championship.
Adam Smith cost us £2m from Tottenham and gives us excellent options at the full back, being able to play either side.
Tom Cleverly followed a day later on loan until the end of the season for half of his wage and offers us an option over the midfield area.
I needed a long term replacement for David Marshall who wants to leave at the end of the season so I brought in Alex Smithies on a free transfer.
Young Romanian Nicusor Stanicu looks like a real prospect with 23 caps at the age of 22. He is definitely a part of my long term plan for the club.

We got a very good budget going into the new season. There are a few positions that need to be strengthened.
Transfer Targets
Full backA lot of players left, meaning I need to sign a few players. This gives us £25m to spend on players in total.
My first signing of the transfer window Carl Jenkinson can play over the full defence has joined on loan until the end of the season.

The squad coped well in their first season in the Premiership, particularly my new strike partnership. If I fast-forward 3 years into the future I need a new right back, left back, winger and two centre midfielders.
A year at the top has massively improved the clubs finances. We sit with over £35m in the bank, I put that down to a tight wage budget. We also continue to rise in the world rich list.

We didn’t have a great run at the end of the season, but we did manage to move up one position in the league securing us an extra £1.5m.
Overall we had a great season for a promoted club. I was surprised to see Spurs win the league and Everton do so well. It is a finish we can build on for next year and hopefully compete for Europe.
If you look at the yearly salary we look like massive underdogs. The squad will need strengthening going into next year.

Our exploits in the Premiership lead to me being offered jobs by both Fulham and Aston Villa. Both of which I rejected and signed a new contract with Cardiff City.
Our winless run extended to 10 games but it wasn’t such a bad run considering some of the teams we played. Things changed in February when when we won 4 of 6 fixtures including a win over Everton and an epic match against Manchester United.
We are so close to a top half finish. If we can carry on our form until the end of the season it will be a real possibility.
End of Season Fixtures
We have a tough run in, especially the final 3 fixtures, however I do see a possible 12 points we can pick up before the end of the season.
