ok, here's what I suggest. just keep it basic. don't get too bogged down with who can play here and who can play there.
a flat back 4 always keeps ok. don't give them any instructions though. the DCs need to be the best at tackling and heading.
as for the DR/DL I always think that a bit of pace helps but usually experience helps with the lower leagues..
just keep it simple defensive wise.

why the complicated formation? play to your teams strengths. if its 442 then so be it. a big/little man up front always helps.
big= heading little=pace & acceleration

wingers are a good source of goals. they need dribbling, pace, crossing, flair, acceleration, etc

as for MCs, you need to combine the flair with the bruiser. you always need a creater with decent passing, flair, etc but you also need a tackler how can win the ball and lay off the passes.

what I tend to do is when I've downloaded a zipped file, I go to my 'downloads', click on the file then extract it to my desktop so I can look at it to sort the files I need. then I just move or cut and paste it into the correct folder, in this case, 'kits'.

again, im no expert mate, but the laptop you've mentioned above is good enough to play fm on but I think you can get better for the price.
you will get better answers on the football manager forums at SI. theres loads of threads asking about which laptop to buy.
id steer clear of pc world though as you will pay a fortune. I think I got mine from saveonlaptops if I remember correctly a couple of years ago and its still works fine now. I went for an all-in-on pc as theres no wires and its still reasonably portable with better specs than a laptop. I think I got it for around £500 and its quad core with dedicated graphics card.

im no expert, but anything with a quadcore processor should easily give you a 5* performance. as for graphics, if you're wanting 5* id look for a laptop/pc with a dedicated graphics card

ok to walk you through it, downloaded kit files to-

my documents/sports interactive/football manager 2014/graphics/pictures/kits.

if any of the files above don't exist (such as 'graphics' one), create them.

in game, go into 'preferences' and then 'interface'. make sure that the 'use cache to decrease...' is unticked and 'reload skin when...' is ticked.

I would redownload one of the kit files (maybe the german one) from this site and try that on its own. placing it in the 'kit' file. let me know if that works.

a very difficult tactic to implement on FM14. I've been using the same formation for 3 seasons with my Chelsea network game. dropping the D line works to ebb the goals but you need decent attack minded players to use it successfully. a shame really, because its arguably one of the most popular tactics with FM since 442.

I agree with all of what this guy thinks, I tried to show it on the FM site, and I got warned off and banned by mods! far beit for me to suggest Nazi Germany. ha ha! anyway, who cares. make your own mind up. got told by a mod that this item was written by somebody who doesn't understand their system! very weird. good article though.

Knee-jerk much? You obviously don't remember the CM4 fiasco. Now that was an unplayable game. Sure FM13 had a couple of minor bugs upon release and the match engine really wasn't all that, but to say it's nearly unplayable is a gross over-exaggeration. Besides, if you think that it's not playable until January, nobody's stopping you from buying it then, are they?

being a more, shall we say, senior FM fan, I do remember the farce of CM04. but I personally think FM09 was the worst version in recent times. okay, a slight exaggeration on my part with the words, 'unplayable' but you have to admit that FM can be a very frustrating experience with its 'minor bugs' for the first 2 or 3 months when wingers cant cross, strikers cant score, defenders cant defend, etc.
of course I will be buying it come release week. after all I am a FM junky and need a fix, even if it isn't in its purest form yet! and if it wasn't for the "jibber-jabber", you wouldn't have healthy debate on your forums pal.

I didn't enjoy FM13 as much as FM11 & to a lesser extent, FM12. mainly due to the inconsistency of results and trying to be a bit too clever tactically and getting it all wrong. the frustration of loosing to much weaker opposition when you are coasting was a game killer. not to mention the far-too-regular 25 shots to 20 shot games that you end up loosing 1-0.
I understand the financial implications of not releasing a new game, but if players paid a subscription fee for new content and waited a year or so for a polished version (that was released in august and not in October), then I dare say a majority of us would be more than happy with that.
