I still use windowed mode on a laptop

I use a desktop computer to play FM, and most logopacks became "unusable" after I got my current rather high resolution (3840 x 2160) monitor. Original size @2x logos look fine, but normal logo size should be perhaps 300 x 300 px or greater for them to not be fuzzy on many game screens. If they are smaller, the game will stretch the logos beyond their actual size to fit them into spaces that are reserved for them (this will of course depend on what kind of skin is in use etc.).

I'd go along with that conclusion too - i tried to make my own as simple to make as possible by automating as much of the process as possible once the logo has been cut...should have called mine LazyLogos

I guess its as simple as cutting the logos, saving them into a folder with IDs as names and then running them through batch automation coupled with an action that adds the effect and saves the logos in the three sizes you have in your pack?

I can confirm that once screen resolution is high enough (I'm not sure what the threshold is and there might be other factors such as skin zoom), the game will automatically use @2x logos instead of the regular small logos.

If you search the net for the best source logos you can find, their sizes will vary from as big as you can want (vector logo) to the smallest you are willing to use. Quite often famous clubs have large good quality logos available, while less reputable clubs may not have. With the great variety in source logos' sizes, the Photoshop layer styles that include measurements in px will require tinkering from one logo to another.

Merging down might be failing because a layer that cannot be merged down has been selected before the action is being played. If you just want to merge all layers press ctrl + alt + a to select all layers and then press ctrl + e to merge them.

There are many ways to arrive to similar outcome, but using the reveal all function should guarantee that no abrupt cutting happens (and by cutting I indeed mean that the shadow looks like it should continue past the edge of the image).

Generally its best to work in large sizes and later make the logos smaller. That way any imperfections in the logos - or in the quality of the work that has been done - can often be reduced to something that isn't visible in the end product.

If its possible to have all the logos in the same size and resolution before you add your effect, it should be fairly straight forward to quickly make logos that have consistent looking style with similar shadow widths etc. It sounds like you may be using a "standard" style logopack as a source for the logo images, so it should at least solve the problem of the image size, though not necessarily the one concerning resolution. I guess it just has to be tested how big of a difference the possible variance in resolution between the images actually makes...

If you are using a standard pack as a source and you have an action that does all the magic you want done on the logos, you can use Photoshop batch automation to automatically go through the whole pack. Click file -> automate -> batch.

Looking pretty good.

It seems that there is still some cutting happening with the shadows on the edges of the images though. If you want to avoid it, here is what you could do:

  1. If possible, work on the source logos in size that is considerably larger than the intended logopack logo size.
  2. Add your effect, and notice that characteristics of the needed drop shadow (maybe other styles as well) depend on the size and resolution of the image you are working on (if you require consistency from logo to logo).
  3. Click image -> reveal all to resize the canvas to include all opaque pixels. Click image -> trim to remove all empty space on the canvas.
  4. Rasterize layer styles and merge visible layers (if there are more than one).
  5. Resize the image to the intended logopack logo size using either height or width (which ever is greater). You can also make the logo smaller than the intended end size if you wish there to be some empty space around the badge.
  6. Change canvas size to the logopack logo size.
  7. Ready to save logopack logo...

I have only one comment on logo style. It looks like the drop shadow effect behind the badges is not always at 0% transparency at the edges of the images. Maybe that is what you want, but I think shadows that are cut abruptly like that do not look very neat.

As general advice - if you are going to make a large pack with thousands of logos, its important to try to make the work flow as effortless and organized as possible. If you are working with Photoshop, you should create an action to automatically add your special effect to the logos, and perhaps another action to automatically save the logos in the logopack image sizes into the folders you want them to go to.

DVX Logos v16.1 Update is live!

The update includes flags for 235 countries, new logos for 2400 clubs and also some competition logos. Its worth mentioning that now all major and a few not so major Australian and American clubs have logos in DVX style. Italy has gone through a big overhaul, and with the update the pack contains badges for as many as 2037 Italian clubs.

Update download link is in the first post.

Ah yes. Its true that since the flags are marked as logos in the config, they can be used to replace the national football association logos by rearranging the order of the folders. I would still think that the main reason for having the custom large flags in the pack is to show them in the game in place of the original flags? For this to happen, the flags must be marked as flags in the config. There is no reason why the config shouldn't have both the logo and flag markings at the same time.

<record from="africa/alg" to="graphics/pictures/nation/5/flag"/>
<record from="africa/alg" to="graphics/pictures/nation/5/logo"/>
This way the flags will replace the original flags, and will also be shown in place of the football association logos if the flag folder is above the FA logo folder in the directory structure. This should work - I have my own little logopack project going on, so I have been recently doing some testing to try to find out how things function.

The large flags config has the flags as logos instead of flags.

<record from="africa/alg" to="graphics/pictures/nation/5/logo"/>
Is this deliberate? I mean with the current config the TCM large flags obviously won't replace the original large flags in the game.

Installation
  1. Find your Football Manager folder. Its typical location is: Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2017.
  2. If it doesn't contain a folder called "graphics", create it: Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2017/graphics.
  3. Unpack the file you downloaded. It should contain a folder called "dvx-logos".
  4. Copy the folder "dvx-logos" into the "graphics" folder: Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2017/graphics/dvx-logos.
  5. Go to game Preferences > Interface, disable "Use caching to decrease page loading times" and enable "Reload skin when confirming changes in Preferences".
  6. Click Confirm.
  7. After the skin has been reloaded, the new logos should be in use.
  8. Sometimes it may be necessary to clear the skin cache for the logos to appear. To do this go to Preferences > Interface and click"Clear Cache". Then reload the skin to make the logos appear.

How to use alternative logos
  1. Go to "alternative" folder
  2. Choose which logo you prefer and remember its name
  3. Locate the config.xml that is in the same "alternative" folder
  4. Open the config with a text editor
  5. Remove letters "X" from near the beginning of the rows that handle your logo of choice
  6. Save the config and reload your FM skin with skin caching disabled
  7. The alternative logo should now be displyed instead of the primary logo

Example:
Do this to enable alternative Lewes logo "uefa_eng_lewes_alt-1":

Locate rows with the name of the logo inside the config.xml file
		<!-- Lewes - alt-1 -->
		<Xrecord from="uefa_eng_lewes_alt-1" to="graphics/pictures/club/5105248/logo"/>
		<Xrecord from="small/uefa_eng_lewes_alt-1" to="graphics/pictures/club/5105248/icon"/>

Remove letters "X" from near the beginning of the rows. "Xrecord" becomes "record".
		<!-- Lewes - alt-1 -->
		<record from="uefa_eng_lewes_alt-1" to="graphics/pictures/club/5105248/logo"/>
		<record from="small/uefa_eng_lewes_alt-1" to="graphics/pictures/club/5105248/icon"/>

Save the config file and reload your Football Manager skin. The alternative Lewes
logo should now be shown in place of the primary Lewes logo.

To get the most out of DVX Logos, it is recommended to use a skin that displays logos in large size. Like this altered Tangfu Skin.

New logo Virtus Verona 43006436

https://scontent-mxp1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash2/v/t1.0-9/10702205_725282584192071_7278100596458645486_n.png?oh=f066e8199077d5116b0d6f8bdb726697&oe=5617EEE0

source: https://www.facebook.com/usvirtusbv

Do you think this is definitely the logo Virtus Verona will be using primarily? I mean it is on their Facebook page and in the header of their website, but it was posted on Facebook as far back as in October 2014, and the team pages for Virtus Verona's squads on the aforementioned official website still have the older logos. The team pages are for the 2014/2015 season though.

Could it be that the new logo is a general Virtus Verona logo (the club has for example volleyball team in addition to the football teams), and the older logos are specifically for the football teams?

Yeah i use comune or town/region flags for Italy & France if nothing else is available - Stemma dell'Aquila looks quite nice so i think it will do for now

I have made quite a few logos (especially Italian) for the Shiny pack, and sometimes when finding a source logo has seemed difficult, I have checked what is in the Metallic pack. The coverage in the Metallic Logos is impressive to say the least - even if a few of the badges are coats of arms or flags of the respective cities/towns/villages.

Real Agropoli have probably changed their logo since the one in the Metallic pack was added: here is the latest crest on their facebook page. I cut the logo and removed some of the most egregious compression artifacts:
