Well he only won the Premier League with it and narrowly finished runners up the season before.

That's exactly what I mean. He was probably the best manager of all time, look at what other people can do with that squad; nothing.

Is it too simple for Man Utd to just play 4-4-2 with Mata and Di Maria on the wings? Playing the same basic shape as Man City.

Carrick and Fellaini may be passable in CM in that shape?

I hope they play that, I love seeing Fellaini out of position cause he is utter shite.

I personally think it's a no-go seeing as we flatout rejected your approach with Vermaelen unless you gave us a player. And no Hernandez is shit, same with Remy. As long as we stay clear of them two it's fine.

Great player and good signing, albeit overpaid but United need to if they want to get back in the top 4 anytime soon.

Still glaring holes to fill though, but there's nobody better at transitioning from defence to attack than di Maria.

You've just said that we were never going to sign top defenders because United are only interested in big names and not actually improving the team. Which is clearly bullshit.

Woodward signs van Gaal's targets, and yes it is his fault when he fails. He also gets credit when he does actually do something, like when we signed Mata.

Mata has proved to be a needless acquisition though. He wasn't what you needed and seems to be a massive waste of money.

It baffles me though how we're so willing to spend money on average players in one way or another (Fellaini, Herrara, Shaw, Rojo) but baulk at paying a penny over the odds for anyone world class. £45m for Vidal? No way. £45m for Fellaini and Herrera? You betcha.

Very baffling. So when everyone's fit, Shaw wing-back and Rojo central? Evans would probably still be your best defender.

It's kinda funny seeing United scrounge around for players. All the big names linked and then most likely ending up with nothing more than respectable squad players not good enough to actually lift the side to a higher level. No Champions League definitely hasn't helped the cause.

I don't think it's to do with the CL at all. United are easily the biggest club in England and the only one Worldwide who can compete with sides like Madrid & Barca in terms of stature. It's simply a lack of plan and poor conduction of business to blame for the late rush. Vidal was a very feasible target for them and he's the best CM in the World.

Mata in my opinion was a very poor purchase for them and I still have no idea why they signed him. Herrera was a step in the right direction but it was a bit pricey and Shaw was obviously overpriced but it's a long term investment. Woodward has to get the blame for this, at this rate they're gonna be battling for 5th and are looking to panic buy like us a few years back when we got spanked by United and bought Andre Santos.

If Barcelona and Madrid can get away with being in shit creek financially for the past decade and still spend £75m on one player I'm sure Atleti can be fine with signing Griezmann.
