I had a look at him but he would only be good enough for the bench. I decided against it because I already have two promising young strikers as backup and i'd much rather they got game time instead.

End of season ipdate

So coming in to May, Europa League qualification was in our hands. Champions League was also possible but that would require a huge balls up from Southampton. We started the month off well with a 2-1 win over local rivals Newcastle. Next was a trip to league leaders Manchester United. It was a tough game but came away with 0 points and a 2-1 loss. No worry, we still had two more games to go. Spurs visited the Riverside next and things were going well as we found ourselves 4-2 up. But they came back to draw 4-4 and put us under real pressure from Arsenal and Everton going into the last game of the season. That final day fixture was against Chelsea, who we beat 9-0 earlier in the season. Unfortuantly there would be no repeat of that scoreline, although there were more goals this time. Chelsea got their revenge by beating us 8-3 at Stamford Bridge.

A terrible performance, but was it enough to hold of the chasers?

Luckily it was. Arsenal grabbed 5th, but because the league cup winners also qualified for the Champions League, that opened up 6th place for the Europa League too. Everton finished in 7th behind us on goal difference. Had we won our last three games, we would've actually overtaken Southampton and qualified for the Champions League.

Following the last game, the board set our initial budgets. Not too bad, I can get one or two good players with that.

Awards

For the second season running, a Boro player won the golden boot, player of the year and young player of the year.

Unfortunatly I didn't collect the managerial award. Salah and Nathan got into the team of the year with Kike only making the bench. Salah totally deserved everything he got, he was simply outstanding and even claimed the golden boot ahead of Kike who finished 2nd. A special mention to Nacer Chadli who finished joint top of the assists charts.

As for next season, well the Dortmund and Sevilla jobs have become available and it wouldn't surprise me if the Chelsea or Man CIty jobs will be joining them. Not sure yet, if nothing comes about then i'll happily carry on with Boro for now

Our style of play was a bit mad and open at times under Sherwood, but he did somehow get Adebayor scoring frequently. Should be easy to get Benteke going then.

April

After a poor March, we desperatly needed to pick up some wins in April. Thankfully we did just that, starting with a 3-2 win over my former employers. Starting to regret sacking me Stoke City are you? Next up was a tricky away game at Southampton which I would've been pleased to get a draw in. We went one better and came away with a superb 2-0 win. That kept our paper thin chances of a top four finish alive, as did a win over Burnley to round the month off.

Its looking like it will be a fight between us and Arsenal for 5th place. Its still mathematically possible to get 2nd place, but thats not going to happen. Is going to be weird seeing Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City all missing out on CL football! May is going to be a tough one for us, we face Newcastle, Man Utd, Spurs and Chelsea in our end of season run in.

It wouldn't surprise me if one of the Arsenal, Chelsea or Man City managers gets the sack. That could possibly be a new path for me to take, we will see...

KEZ_7 and Johno I sold Chantome in January which freed up a load of wage money, plus I haven't spent all of the money I got from the Deulofeu sale. A bit of budget adjusting and some tasty clauses in his contract and I reckon I could get him.

All depends on what happens with Kike in the summer really. I have noticed a slight decline in his abilities and there is still plenty of interest in him from around Europe. I'm tempted to cash in because I have Benzia who I got on a free and Walker who is tipped to become a star Premier League striker waiting in reserve.

Our good form continued into February as we only lost one game. That was in the FA Cup 5th round to Manchester United. That is the first time we've made it beyond the 4th round of wither cup since I joined Boro. Norwich usually beat us so it was nice to actually win against them for once. The result of the month is definatly the away win at Man City. We went 1-0 down early on but came back to win 3-2 and make it two seasons in a row we've won at the Etihad.

That unbeaten run in the league coupled with other teams slipping up has elevated us all the way up to 5th position in the table. Man CIty losing all four league games was a nice helping hand. It will be tough to stay there with Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea close behind but we will give it our best. Southampton look as though they are too far ahead of us to catch so this is going to be a battle for the Europa League places.

January Transfer Window

The only incoming players were a couple of promising youngsters from Argentina. Signed both on a bosman.

A few outgoing loans and the permanent transfer of Chantome to Lorient. That deal could rise to £400k with add ons. Acosta went straight out on loan back to Argentina but it wasn't so easy with Martinez. He still needs a work permit to play in England and the only team interested in taking him on loan was Ipswich. Bamford did go to Ipswich and backup keeper Mark Bunn went to Fulham. Hot midfield prospect Cooke has been loaned out to Premier League strugglers Burnley.

After those great wins against Chelsea and Spurs, confidence was sky high, depite a defeat to Man Utd. We played Liverpool on new years day and its a good job we stuck nine past Chelsea because Liverpool gave our goal difference a good battering scoring seven against us. The rest of the month was a bit easier with a draw against Forest the only game we didn't win. Salah continues to impress and scored seven goals this month.

The top four have pulled a small gap on everyone else, but with 5th and 10th separated by three points, any slips ups by the top clubs will most likely result in them moving down the table. Boro are in the middle of the chasing bunch in 7th place.
