He's reportedly not keen on a move there and I think the talks between the clubs are still in the very early stages. It'd be a very strange move if it goes through.

Good win for us over a near full strength Catania side tonight. We went with an experimental 3-5-1-1 formation with Cana in the middle of the defence and it really worked, we totally dominated possession in the first half, pinning Catania back and closing them down on the edge of their area which is quite unusual for Lazio.

I think 0 gives it a random value so I'd avoid that and just use 1 which is the lowest fixed value.

I wouldn't say he needs to move to a club like Southampton to get noticed, he's been playing well in the Serie A for years and he's on the fringes of the national team. Your club would have to have a pretty poor scouting system to not know what he can do.

Edit: If they were the only club looking at him I'd understand but most of the big Italian sides have been credited with an interest, even our DS met with Cagliari after the game at the weekend and Astori was discussed.

Any World 11 without Thiago Silva is a joke, an official FIFA one?! No words, just no words.

It's the players that vote isn't it?

Aye, I really don't get what would attact Astori to Southampton, new league and higher wages perhaps but there's bigger clubs sniffing around. Then there's the price, IIRC they rejected a bid of at least €15m from a Russian club in the summer.

As for Coutinho, it'd be a real shame if Inter lost him. He looked good early in the season but there's not really a place for him in their 3-4-3, still, given his potential they really should keep him and he can certainly do better than Southampton. I also have a bad feeling they'll try and shoehorn him into a 442 like they did with Ramirez who was stuck out on the wing.

Didn't it happen in Italy a few months ago? Some Napoli player got his own goal ruled out iirc

EDIT: It was Klose for Lazio, jersey colours are similar

Klose scored, turned to celebrate and then the ref asked if it was a handball. If the ref hadn't asked I daresay he'd have been happy enough to claim the goal.

I know what you mean, with the likes of Astori being linked with €9m/€10m bids and Bocchetti both out of contract and hinting that he'd be open to a move to his hometown it's not impossible for them to bring those two in. Couple that with Armero possibly arriving and you have a real upgrade on what they have now.

I can't see it happening though.

Results have really gone Lazio's way so far with Inter, Fiorentina and Juve all losing. Now we just need a draw between Napoli and Roma with lots of injuries and red cards.

Here's highlights of the Fiorentina v Pescara game, including some of Pescara keeper Perin's record 15 saves:

Aye, it was some comeback, down to 10 with half an hour gone in Turin and they manage to get back to 2-1. Buffon was dreadful for both goals though, a rare off day for him.

They don't have a natural sub for Milito, Rocchi is nothing more than a 6 month stop gap who'll sit on the bench, play when he's needed and be content doing so. In the summer Longo will come back and they'll have a few months to find someone better if needed.

Cagliari going down to 9 all started with their keeper clattering into Klose, he was booked and a penalty was given, the keeper then kept arguing with the ref till he got another yellow, the same happened to Cossu I think.

Good result for Lazio last night, it was a poor performance but still nice to see us come back from 1-0 down to get the 3 points especially with all those around us still to play.

The win looks even better now as Inter have just been whipped 3-0 by Udinese.

That sounds about right, a €9m or €10m fee with the potential to go up to €16m if he's playing, scoring etc.

Dreadful game last night, Hibs haven't been very good over the last couple of months but we were especially poor there. Despite beating them in the cup I think we've still got an odd inferiority complex when it comes to Hearts, we never play well against them.

Says it all that as bad as we were they still could win on their home patch.

€16m I think. Given his injuries it's questionable if he'll be able to get back to his best and it'll probably be this time next year before he's really firing on all cylinders, but it's probably a risk worth taking, especially if this sort of ambitious signing helps persuade Jovetic to hang around for another couple of years.

I hope he does.

Isn't Robinho going back to Brazil too? I read somewhere Santos have pulled out?

I think their still negotiating, it's either a €2m difference in the transfer fee or his wages, either way, he didn't train today and I'd say it's more likely he'll go than stay.

Pretty mental to think Milan have lost Ibra, Cassano, Pato and possibly Robinho from their front line in the last 6 months or so.

He's Lega Nord, what do you expect? Another one of those guys talked about how excited he was for Verona's "first game in Africa" when they went to Palermo for a Coppa game last year.

I'd be surprised if Milan failed to put in some sort of buy back clause in their deal for Pato. Ideally he manages to stay fit in Brazil and rebuilds his career for 12/18 months or so then comes back to Milan with Corinithians pocketing a tidy profit for rehabilitating him.

Edit: Corinthians signed 60% of his rights with Pato retaining the other 40% in place of a signing on fee.

Athletic and Juve in talks over Llorente.

Juve are also rumoured to have agreed a deal with Toulouse for Moussa Sissoko.

Not surprising though, that kind of abuse is pretty common in the Italian lower leagues. Even sadder was the Pro Patria chairman trying to say they weren't fans of the club and he'd never seen them in the ground before.

What style of football has their new manager, Stramaccioni, employed?

More often that not their reliant on counter attacks and the front two/three to create the chances themselves. The back three needs Samuel to keep it working, without him the other two seem a bit lost. The midfield works hard, closes down space etc but there's little creativity in there so overall their not very impressive but they do seem able to raise their game as the Milan and Juve results show. Aside from a 10 minute spell we were the better side when we played them the other week.

Twitter going nuts, dread to think what it'll be like tomorrow

A guy I work with knows people in South Africa that actually moved because of this stupid thing, their old place was on the coast and they moved inland because it's 'safer'. I'd have loved to be there when he realised it wasn't a joke and they really were that thick.

Borussia Monchengladbach are going to be a tough side to get past, thankfully our manager looks to be taking the Europa League seriously so we should be able to at least make a game of it.

I'd also use "pass into feet" to reduce through balls and hopefully cut down the number of intercepted passes, "play through defense" is a similar shout, cutting down running with the ball and through balls. Unless you have great passing players in your defense "play out of defense" is a great shout that makes your defenders with a defensive mentality (CB's really) play shorter passes rather than lumping it forward.

"Hassle opponents" can be a useful shout as it raises the tempo, tightens your marking and gets your players closing down more, as Kez said this can open gaps against better players so it's sometimes better to use "stand off opponents" which keeps marking loose and zonal but also means your team keep their shape and don't go charging after their markers. If your Asst mentions "player X is getting skinned..." It's a good idea to switch to "stand off..." for a while.

The club formally backed Safe Standing today.

Teckle news.

Did you see the leaflet/email/thing about them looking to extend the third tier so it goes behind the goals taking the capacity close to 60k? Bad news is their also looking to expand the premium seating areas.

What for?

Failing to report their 3rd keeper trying to fix their game with Samp back in 2010.

Edit: Sao Paulo have just announced the signing of Lucio, so much for the idea of Napoli signing him...

Matteo Gianello the keeper that tried to fix the game with Samp has been banned for 39 months. Seeing as he's 36, unemployed and, well, sh*t, that's pretty much a life ban.

The points penalty is nothing and Grava isn't a loss either but it'll be interesting to see how they replace Cannavaro, a short term deal for Lucio pehaps? It doesn't help that Aronica's off to Palermo either.

On the Lazio transfer front, Matuzalem's apparently had a medical with Genoa and he'll be off as soon as the window opens. Zarate left before the squad for Inter was announced at the weekend and now he's training by himself, his own choice it seems, so that's hopefully him away too. I really hope we find a club for him rather than just recinding his contract.
