#554736 The New Fergie - A Northern Ireland Story
OverlyHappyHobo
I was in need of reinforcements within the defence, especially at left back where we were lacking in proper quality. I browsed the market and found a player who wanted to be a first teamer. Although his stats didn't look good, I thought his athletic ability must be able to help us out. Plus, he wants to be a first teamer, so he MUST be good, right? RIGHT?
Lee Spires. All 76 kilos of him. Absolutely bad. Not even good enough to play for the division below. And I've got him on a big contract till the end of the season. Isn't that just lovely.
I'm not saying he won't play, but there's a reason I didn't include his name in the screenshot, because no one is going to remember it.
I'm a massive idiot.

An update on how the rest of the month went.
Fixtures:
I'm happy it wasn't a loss, but this game was a frustrating one. They took the lead with a quick finish within the opening minutes, and from there seemed to shut up shop completely. We were really knocking on the door throughout the game, and a red in the 21st minute should have vitalised us to come back and win the game. Although Oyenuga did equalise, we weren't able to break down their hard defence and ended up sharing the spoils. Frustrating.
That's more like it, a convincing victory in my first home game. They seemed to have more of the ball but we were far more dangerous with it, constantly looking for chances. Jonny Giles stood out today yet again with a goal, Oyenuga picked up his second in as many games and Danny Green converted a penalty for a convincing 3-0 win. To top it all off, they missed a consolation penalty late on, smashing it into the bar. A strong performance.
A 2-0 scoreline may suggest a comfortable victory, but this one was all about clinicality. In a shootout like this (38 shots in the game), it was all about the finishing ability of our men upfront. Lee Barnard started his first game for me and impressed by grabbing the opener, before young midfielder Wesley Fonguck scored late on to put the result beyond doubt. Another day, another 3 points.
An unbeaten first three games, with strong performances in attack the focal point. We seem to be able to create loads of chances, which can only help us.
League Table:
The slow climb has begun, those points have taken us up to 14th in the league. With only 4 points between us and the playoffs, another month like this could leave us in a strong position come the transfer window.
General News:
On the eve of my first game in charge, I asked the board to sponsor the first step of my coaching badges. Although they were reluctant, they eventually gave in and I will be studying for a National C License.
This also happened. I noticed we didn't have a senior affiliate, which is really important to get easy access to loans. I went and requested the board for one and convinced them to start looking.
The resolution of that was that we announced a link with Bristol Rovers in League 1. This should allow us to get some easy access to quality loan signings.

Thought I might go over what club I've joined, for those who are interested at least.
Club History:
The club was founded in 1994, and promoted to the top-tier of Nigerian football in 1997. They also managed to finish runners-up in the Nigerian FA Cup three times in a row, from 1995-97, which as a second-division club, is quite the feat.
However, the club were unable to establish themselves in the top-flight and were relegated in 2001, following which they were disbanded. However, in 2008, the Katsina State government made plans to resurrect them, reestablishing them as Spotlights FC. They played in the second-division of the Nigerian football pyramid for 7 more seasons, before the landmark year of 2016. Not only were they rebranded once again as Katsina United, but they won the Nigerian National League and earned promotion back to the top flight.
Stadium and Facilities
The team play at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in the capital city, owned by the Katsina State Government (who also own Katsina United). It was opened in 2013, with a football ground, gymnasium and fitness club available. It has been the home of Katsina United, but also hosted Premier League side El-Kanemi Warriors FC for a year in 2015-16 during the Boko Haram insurgency. It has an all-seater capacity of 35,000.
Achievements
Nigerian FA Cup: Three-times runner up (1995,1996,1997)
Nigerian National League: One-time champion (2015)
African Cup Winners Cup: One-time quarterfinalist (1996)
Real Life:
A month ago, they appointed Abdusammad Badamasi, the youngest first-team manager in the Premier League at 35 years old. He reportedly wept tears of joy after being offered the job. Imagine what Moses Manqoba would have done. We might have needed an ark to survive that flood. He's 20, for the love of God.
Their goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, has also played 21 times for the national team and is a close friend of current Manchester United poster-boy Odion Ighalo. He even told reporters that he would like a move to Manchester United to link up with his friend. Good man Ikechukwu. Just like I "would like" to call David Beckham over for lunch so we can laugh about the good times we had. Aren't we all special.
So in conclusion, state owned team just entering their first season back in the Premier League, a couple of flirtations with silverware in the past and a goalkeeper that befits the Premier League better than this club. Let's just hope the fax machines stay working for that one.

21st November 2016
Well, being Nigerian did indeed pay off. Received offers from a few clubs in Nigeria's top flight.
I did attend all of them, seeing as I need any break I can get. Kano Pillars are title contenders, so the ideal move would be to them. The rest of the sides are mid-table mediocrity.
24th November 2016
What is this? A wild job offer has appeared!
Considering this is a first management job for an unknown 20-year-old, the chance to manage in Nigeria's top flight would be irresistable. But considering no other team has gotten back to me yet, I'm gonna delay.
8th December 2016
Almost two weeks have gone since the Katsina job offer. The Kano Pillars job went to a 73-year-old Belgian, who's probably gonna win them their 5th league title. Meanwhile, none of the other clubs have come close to responding to me. As a result of this disappointment combined with my own impatience, I decided to take a leap of faith.
Let's get this show on the road!

I've used claassen's amazing megapack on FM18, so I have pretty much every single African country's top flight loaded, with a few lower divisions as well. Top 5 European leagues, Argentina and Brazil also loaded. Makes the loading take forever though, but oh well.

Moses - Important prophet in the Abrahamic religions. Most known for crossing the seas using his magical abilities. Hoping to do the same?
Manqoba - Zulu name for a person capable of winning in hopeless situations (rough translation). Will definitely need some of that.
He is Nigerian, for no other reason that they are a big football country in Africa. The Nigerian league is one of the better ones to go to so here's hoping that helps.
20 years old, no coaching badges, last known experience of playing football was falling over trying to volley. This is starting from scratch.
Now here's hoping some club likes taking a risk on an lad younger than most players.......

Not anymore. Hopefully, at least. Here's whats gonna go down.
This is the African Hall of Fame. A large mountain to climb indeed. The goal is to one day reach the pinnacle of that mountain. To become the best African Manager ever.
Main Goal: Reach #1 in African Hall of Fame
Of course, that wouldn't be entertaining enough. So I've set myself some side goals.
Side Goal #1: Win a league title before 30
Side Goal #2: Win a continental competition (any continent) before 40
Side Goal #3: Win a league title with Enyimba (my favourite team in this save)
Side Goal #4: Win an international tournament
Side Goal #5: Win a UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Pretty tricky right? But that's the challenge. So let's pack up that suitcase and grab that travel pillow, cause we are going continental!

The American Samoan national team has only won 4 out of 42 games in their entire history, and are currently ranked 190th in the world. They have never even gotten close to World Cup qualification, have never made an OFC Nations Cup and just 4 Pacific Games appearances. Club teams don't do much better either, with no team having made it past the group stage of the Oceanic Champions League.
Basically, these guys aren't very good. But that's where Rawlston Masaniai comes in.
Rawlston has been asked by the American Samoan FA to improve the state of football in the country. This is his story.

Remember how I said that Montgomery were doing quite well? Well, we played them, and it didn't go well. We got completely FMed, doubling the shots on target and controlling possession, but still losing 2-1, pushing us 5 points of them. Very, very annoying. Then we went to Dyffryn Banw. They're in 10th. Easy game, right? Next thing you know, we lost 4-1.
You might be asking why. One reason - my reserves.
After the first month, a number of my squad players began complaining about game time. As a nice person who doesn't want to exclude people, I agreed to play them. In the Montgomery game, Liam Blake and Sam Tattum - my stars - began on the bench. Brad Miguel did nothing whatsoever. The next game, I rotated the side completely - all backups. The results can be clearly seen. The goal Blake scored? Off the bench.
After this run, I realised one important fact. In the lower leagues, always assume that your backups are shite, because it is a BAD idea to rely on them.
With my mind now clean, I started our best elevens in the next games. We got two solid wins, with Blake and Higdon showing their value with goals in both the games with goals. This led to this league table.
Thankfully, Montgomery slipped up and now are only 3 points off and we have a 5 point gap. First isn't off just yet, but we need to maintain consistency - the bane of lower league sides.
If you guys got any suggestions for me, comment below!
#456676 Brecon Northcote - Road to Glory

Solid month, unbeaten in the league, but can't say it was unexpected. Liam Blake has been fantastic, scoring in 5 out of the 7 games and having 8 goals overall. The 7-2 over Dolgellau was quite interesting - the scoreline was 2-2 at halftime, but we exploded in the second half to dominate the game.
Somehow we didn't even have the best month in the league, with Montgomery going 7-0 in Aug-Sep fixtures, will be a tough matchup against them. The table seems pretty tight, with only a 3 point difference between 3rd and 8th. With the best goal difference in the league, we could have a major advantage come the end of the season.
#456430 Brecon Northcote - Road to Glory

The lads. Still getting to know each other, but looks like a strong bunch who can compete for the title this season. Sam Tattum looks like the star of the team, and Liam Blake looks amazing as well. The first team looks solid, while the bench has a good blend of experience and youth. Brad Miguel represents our international experience, with a single cap for St.Vincent and the Grenadines. Should be a good season.
(If you wanna see anyone's stats, lemme know)
Backroom staff. Nothing remarkable. Lots of former players, Roy Gumbs had a cap for Anguilla at 39, and represents the international experience in this group.
Got thrashed in most of the friendlies, but didn't really have a squad for most of them so not annoyed about that.
So.....should be an easy season right?
Come back for the next update....sometime this century maybe.

Welcome to Brecon Northcote. Here's a little bit about them.
Not very informative, I know. Basically a random amateur club with a young history that just got promoted up to the Mid Wales League 2, the fourth division of Welsh Football. With their football league basically a nothing competition compared to the glamour of the Premier League and the Scottish Championship (maybe not), the level of competition isn't very high. That being said we are expected to finish bottom, so maybe high enough.
No staff, no players, no trophies, nothing. Starting from scratch. Just the way I like it.
Hang around for the next year and you might see another of these updates.

vs AFC Hurst II: We first went to AFC Hurst II, where we went down within 10 minutes, but fought back courtesy of a brace from George Burton, as well as goals for Galliford and Sodje.
vs East Grinstead Town III: We then went away in the Junior Cup to East Grinstead Town, where it took a 97th minute goal from Burton to break the 1-1 deadlock.
vs Ifield Galaxy II: We narrowly came away victors in our first home game of the season, through an Onome Sodje goal.
vs Fletching II: Another narrow victory in our next fixture, as we barely scraped the three points, courtesy of an 89th minute own goal.
vs West Hoathly II: A good victory over West Hoathly II, despite a missed penalty we got a comfortable 3-1 victory.
vs Scaynes Hill III: Another Cup game, another extra time win, another George Burton winner.
Looking comfortable with the three point gap, hoping for more form like this in the months to come.

My first team. I'm very happy with it. A good blend of talent and experience, potential and ability. Key players include Norwegian defender Snorre Strand Nielsen, midfielder Isaac Galliford, Nigerian striker Onoma Sodje and 16-year-old winger Keanu Williams. Most of these players are good enough for Level 8, so I would put us as the best amateur side in the country.
The tactic. Keeping it simple, standard 4-4-2. Nothing fancy to see here.
The staff. Lots of former players including Dan Trenkel, Mark Burgess and the one and only, Wayne Shaw. Neil Mackenzie is the only staff member still playing.
Financially, looking good. With us not spending on anything, can't see us losing too much money in the season to come.

Have seen this save lurking around quite a few forums, so thought I might give it a go. Premise is pretty simple - I'm in charge of Fairwarp, who are the worst playable (or lowest playable) team in the English football ladder. They are expected to finish rock bottom by an absolute mile in the 22nd tier of football, making them the worst team in England (Sunderland came a close second, mind). The challenge? Well, maybe not to be the best, but not the worst would be a good start for one.
First challenge will be putting people in this club, cause, well.....duh.
Will get back in a bit (or never, I'm not good with sticking with these saves.)

Fixtures:
Somalie Cup:
A good victory, and a good way to start off the competitive season. We welcomed mid-table outfit Muqdisho to the Mogadishu Stadium, and we came away with three points on the day. An early set-piece header from attacking midfielder Jamaad Elmi and another header from striker Musse Yusuf gave us the win, although I am slightly unhappy at the loss of our clean sheet late on.
This was very confidence boosting. Gaadiidka are not a bad side, and we certainly struck gold with the 4-0 thrashing. We dominated them completely, barely allowing shots, creating loads of chances and dominating possession. A sending off did not help Gaadiidka's chances at all. And the results were clear, as right winger Mohamed Amin Ali and striker Musse Yusuf helped themselves to braces in a great all-round performance.
A nice, expected 3-0 victory over amateur lower-division outfit Feynuus. Musse Yusuf was once again in top form, scoring another brace to take his tally to 5. Winger Jorbateh Getamesay punctuated the victory with his goal. Another dominating performance, and we are through to the quarter finals.
Another amateur side, another dominating victory. Once again, dominated play, created lots of chances and barely allowed a shot. Musse Yusuf took his tally to 7 with a hat-trick of braces, while centre-back Kifaayo Elfadi's set-piece header and Jabril Hassan Ali Roble's finish rounded off another pleasing performance for the Xamar Stars.
We took on Gaadiidka once again, and this time they made more of a game than the group-stage game. They were tight at the back, and despite our rampant creation of chances, it took till the 78th minute for the breakthrough, as Jorbateh Getamasey scored the winner from a header. A good win, and a Final spot is booked.
Its Cup Final Day. Could Elman bring home their first Somalie Cup ever, as well as the first trophy in 4 years?
Hell yeah we could (excuse the OneDrive popup)! Not to say that it was easy though. Horseed are one of the best teams in the country, and we struggled to break them down, despite the massive amount of chances (sorta like the semi-final). Jamaad Elmi even had a penalty saved in the 17th minute. But then, like a Somalian Stevie G, Yebeltal Abdi scored a 20 yard screamer in the 87th minute to gift us the Cup. Abdi, you beautiful beautiful b**tard.
Transfers
Prospect for the future, Could prove to be a useful squad player over the course of the season.
Another prospect. Could also be pretty good in the future.
(Again, apologies for the OneDrive popup). This one I'm properly excited about. Yusuf has been a phenomenon so far, but he's not highly rated by the staff or the league. Abdi already looks a proper choice, thanks to that 20 yard screamer in the Cup Final. The stuff of dreams, mate
Another exciting signing. Probably the biggest talent in Somalia, he looks like the ideal replacement for our 35-year-old captain, Sheikh Abdulkadir.
(I'm not apologizing for the popup anymore, just deal with it). A first team starter, for sure. Looks extremely good for this division. Could prove to be a very key player for us.
Prospect. One for the future. Can't go into detail cause there's too much else to do. Moving on....
Same as above, if slightly better.
Same as above, but slightly worse.
Looks half decent at just 19, and could push for a first-team spot before long. Him and Abdi are my earmarked "breakthrough stars" for us.
Celebrations
Nice to see that we conceded 1 goal in the entire competition.
Goal-scoring machine Musse Yusuf got the Golden Boot (or whatever its called around here), and midfield star Jean Jacques Burale picked up the award for the most assists. Fantastic stuff to see.
The board didn't really care about this, but at the end of the day, silverware is silverware, and a first time win in Somalia's premier cup competition is only gonna earn me browny points.
Glad to see that the fans have such faith. To many more successes then.
Miscellaneous
Just a side note, but in the recently picked international squad, 9 players are Elman players, the most from any club on that list. We are all but the biggest club in the country.
Apologies for the loooong post, I had my exams so kinda hard to post stuff, will try and keep updates more short and sweet in the future. Peace out! (Is it cool to do that anymore? Whatever, call me out of date)

A solid win, and first of the season. Lung Moon are one of the worse teams in the division, so the victory was expected. A brace from new signing Lai Kak Yi was excellent to see. Hopefully the first of many more.
Another solid victory. We didn't dominate, but definitely created great chances and converted well. A clean sheet, coupled with a penalty from right-back Wong Kin Tong and another goal to Lai Kak Yi gave us the victory. This was also the first game we used the new formation, as I was looking to shift to something more conventional and easy to manage.
The new formation, a conventional 4-5-1. A more reliable presence than the 3-at-the-back that we were playing earlier to me. So far signs are looking good, will have to see how this develops.
Third win on the trot. Contrary to the last game, we dominated, though weren't able to stay as solid defensively. The game was tied when youngster Lam Ngai Yueng scored the winner after coming off the bench. Good to see.
A very frustrating loss. They scored early on and we just failed to show up as a team today. They could have been 2 or 3 up, or we could have brought it around to a draw. Disappointing to come away with no points.
#429487 Around the World in 80 Years

Bore draw. Nothing really happened. This is one of the better teams in the competition, so I'll take it.
Did we lose? Yeah. Do I care? Not really. This is the top team in the country, with access to one of the better senior squads in the country. They are expected to win the league. For us to lose 3-2 is not too bad, although I would like to sharpen up the defense.
The league table. Doesn't really matter at the current point in time.

Born in Chennai, Raghav has had a rather quiet life so far. He lived the first few years of his life in India, before moving to Singapore. He started his NS age 18 and finished when he was 20. Along the way, he also took up a preliminary degree in Fitness and Physical Health from the Singapore University of Social Sciences. He has now moved to Hong Kong to get a further degree. And along the way, might get into the football scene there as well.
The first job he gets, you ask?

A little bit more about the club.

We also have one of the most vibrant sporting scenes in the world. We have one of, if not, the best cricket teams in the world. We have played host to World No.1 badminton players. We have the most successful Olympic hockey team in history. We have produced one of the best doubles and mixed doubles players of all time.
But how about the most popular sport on the planet? Well, that's where we kinda fall apart. The country is ranked 97th in FIFA's world rankings, and has rarely challenged in qualification for the World Cup, barring the 1958 tournament. The country has never won the AFC Cup, never produced a player to play at a high standard in one of Europe's top 5 leagues, never produced a top class manager of any kind. India have never really entered the conversation for "best ...." for most things football.
This is where it changes.
I give myself a lifetime. To fulfil the dream of every Indian football fan. To have my name uttered with pride by the people of the subcontinent. To act as a bastion for this sport to a nation.

The first of many jobs on this journey.
The general background. Spent most of the noughties in the 7th tier, but has spent around a decade at this level.
The squad. Definitely good enough to be winning promotion, or at least challenging for the playoffs. Bit worrying that most of the stars are loanees though.
The finances are not massively comfortable, but I have some good leeway with the wage budget. Bit worrying how much red we might be in at the end of the season.
And finally, the reason I was brought in. A side meant to be challenging for promotion are barely staving off relegation. However, not all is lost, considering we remain just 7 points off a playoff place. This campaign could yet turn out to be a successful one.
For a first job in management, it's not terrible. I'm targeting a playoff push for season no.1, but I definitely want promotion by the end of next season.

YES! Finally, a job offer. I did say I didn't want to begin in England but its mid-October and I'm desperate to get at least some work in. I will be the new manager of Chelmsford City!

My first job in management will be at Knockbreda FC in the second tier of Northern Irish football. A pretty high standard to start at, so let's hope that I can live up to it.
Originally founded as Knockbreda Parish, the club was founded in 1947, but was only admitted to the Northern Irish amateur leagues in 1989. Through a series of gradual promotions, they joined the Premier Intermediate League (the 3rd tier) in the 2009-10 season, before winning the title and promotion in 2012-13. Under the leadership of President Colin Russell, the club remains optimistic about staying in the division and dreaming of a first ever promotion to the top flight.
The squad is quite a solid one, with quality to boss the division below but one that might struggle in the 2nd tier. While the star ratings do make it look good, there is a lot of improvement left to be done.
The finances look similarly optimistic, with 300 pounds available to be spent. However, the club is predicted to go into serious loss by the end of the year, so maybe all that money isn't there to spend.
So that's the new club. Time to get settled in and run through pre-season.

All right. I should probably update you on what's happening.
Only a couple of jobs in the top three tiers of Northern Irish football are available, but there are a host of clubs in the amateur leagues. I applied for four jobs accordingly.
A good balance of league clubs that I can build my rep at along with amateur clubs for a quick promotion to up my stock. Now to wait and see who comes back.
Wow, that was quick. Seems like my rep is higher than I imagine. It's hard to say which job appeals to me more, but I guess that's what the interviews are for.
One is offering a non-existent wage budget to challenge for promotion from the third tier. The other is offering a decently sized budget to survive in the second tier. I think the decision is fairly obvious.
