Went to Download Festival at the weekend - finally got to see The Gaslight Anthem

Other highlights were Black Stone Cherry, Stone Sour, Iron Maiden, and Thunder

They supported Killers on Saturday night. They were class.

Whole gig was pretty good, especially The Killers themselves, 26 songs, monster of a gig.

Daft Punk's Random Access Memories is a big-budget studio celebrity wankfest with all style and no substance. The only track I thought memorable and catchy as a whole was the Steely Dan-ripping Todd Edwards collaboration Fragments of Time.

Hello DJ Dixie Dick, it's been a while.

The minds behind the Sopranos have got fantastic tastes in music, and they've led me to some pretty awesome discoveries, including this delightful country-folk ditty that came in just as AJ had his very own panic attack during football training.

Fuck Buttons have got another winner on their cards. For three albums straight they've churned out some of the most inventive pop crossovers in the longest while. They're easily at the forefront of British music, with their involvement in the London Olympics' soundtrack only proving it.

I don't know how it took me so long to realise Way down in the Hole and Red Right Hand are the same music?

Let's carry out a little survey right here... rank the Wire's seasonal renditions of Way Down in the Hole.

5 > 2 > 4 > 1 > 3, Simon saved the best for last.

Really don't get the fuss about AM. OK. 6/10. Going through the motions.

Very much so. Pretty boring, simple stuff. Arctic Monkeys have been quite boring and uninspired since around 2007.

I really didn't like the first album on first glance, most of the songs which were on the radio were too... I don't know. They didn't really have any feeling. They were pop songs and not the kind of pop I like. My sister got the album and I gave it a few listens. I quite liked View From The Afternoon as I'm a sucker for a nice bit of drumming. Some other songs like Mardy Bum were ok, not life changing but they were alright. I feel like once they got some cashflow going with that album, it gave them the freedom to make a great album in Favourite Worst Nightmare. It's not my usual thing, the lyrics were on the whole pretty poor but at the same time it had a lot of charm. Again, my sister got it and I borrowed it but I think I still have it somewhere.

Their next album was I'd say better than the first one, I enjoyed the likes of Cornerstone and The Jewellers Hands but it was pretty boiler plate stuff. I haven't given the other albums a listen because that's around the time I stopped living with my sister.

I think that sums up Arctic Monkey for me. I'd borrow their albums, but I wouldn't buy them. Zero desire to listen to this or their last album.

I will say that Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High is pretty listenable. Not amazing but I wouldn't be upset if it was on the radio.

I quite like it and it's the only song on the album that I find interesting, but I think it sounds like a Flight of the Concords song.

The greatest record of the past decade?.. it's not even top 10 this year.

Ok, he called Suck It and See a masterpiece, we're done here.

I was really pumped for the album ever since 'Do I Wanna Know?'

Got it about 2 weeks ago, and really was not impressed. However, I have persisted with it, and it has really, really grown on me. I feel like the more you listen, the more meanings you find in the lyrics, and the better each song becomes because of it.

Not the greatest album ever, but I think it's really good.

Glasvegas are going through the same cycle that plenty of bands hyped to death by the NME experience - labelled the new hope for British music, release a solid debut, released a disappointing second album which is followed by an even worse third one which no one gives a shit about.

I thought their second album was as good as their first, just had a very different sound and didn't really have any catchy singles like Geraldine or Daddy's Gone.
