Review time again, and like last night it's an Irish black comedy:

The Guard (2011)
Directed by John Michael McDonagh

Sergeant Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson) takes an unorthodox approach to his role as an officer of the Garda Síochána, paying little attention to rules or procedure whilst shamelessly consuming drugs, drinking on the job and employing the service of prostitutes. After a mysterious murder and the disappearance of a young officer Boyle is forced to team up with the straight-laced FBI agent Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle) in pursuit of three drug-traffickers believed to be in the process of shipping $500M worth of cocaine into Ireland. The conflicting personalities of Boyle and Everett initially strains their relationship but as the film moves progresses they gain mutual respect and grow an unlikely friendship. The Guard is more than just a buddy cop film however, relying just as much on its strong wit and its depiction of the life and attitudes of rural Ireland to provide humour and drive the plot forward. The film is heavy on close-ups, letting the strong performances of its cast set the mood in each scene.

The Guard shines thanks to its strong wit, intriguing setting and a most memorable performance from Gleeson. The film is funny from beginning to end, only a very dour man would find himself without a smile by the end of the 92 minute run time.

5/5.

(This'll be good)

What's wrong with Schindler's List?

It's just boring.
Very well crafted, well acted, etc. A bit too well crafted, really. Would've liked it to be a bit less pretty, a bit more raw. More gray, less black and white.
Also you can just smell how important Spielberg thinks the film is.

Not for me.

I laughed quite a lot when I watched Schindler's List.

Because I'm sick like that.

I once got Schindler's List confused with The Bucket List and was taunted relentlessly for asking why Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson were in a film about Nazis.

I'm not going to write a review on this one, I'm just going to flat-out urge all of you to watch Jagten (aka. The Hunt). It's the most gripping film I have watched in a very, very long time.

Finally got around to watching Pusher 3. It's a step down from the first two, but still a very good film.

Just watched Cloud Atlas, loved it.

Was genuinely shocked at who played all the characters at the end, amazing make up and costume.

I'm going to go and see the new Metallica film which is out next month, although the plot sounds rather baffling it seems to be picking up decent reviews;
As Metallica performs a roaring live set for fans in a sold-out arena, a young roadie named Trip is sent on a mission to meet a disabled truck and retrieve a particular item. However, the routine task turns into a surreal odyssey when Trip's van is hit by another vehicle and he subsequently finds himself up against a death-dealing horseman. As Trip flees through desolate streets, he has only his wits to help him avoid the deadly horseman and deliver Metallica's cargo.

Surely it can't be any worse than the Some kind of monster documentary they did in the mid 00's?

I cringed constantly for the first 25 minutes, then I was bored for the rest of the film.
