Thanks! And I thought as much.
Do you have any tips about reducing the sharpness of the edges? Blur tool?

You would avoid cutting them so sharply from the start, ideally. What technique/program are you using?

Photoshop CS5, magic wand with tolerance, and then just experimenting with refine edge afterwards.
I've tried to use clone stamp tool before but there's something about the way I'm cutting them that means the clone stamp leaves a small border, doesn't colour the edges completely...

Edit: I altered the way I do it to try and include the clone stamp tool, I think it worked a bit better.

I don't have PhotoShop on the PC I'm on atm but that does look a bit better. A word of advice, try to avoid using Magic Wand if at all possible. Try using Refine Edge or Vertus - there's tutorials for both in the opening post

How does one use refine edge w/o first magic wanding?
Also, what do you think is the best/easiest way to cut hair? Eraser tool?

There's practical tutorials in the OP for both the Refine Edge and Vertus techniques on Photoshop - have a look at them for further assistance...

Theres still alot of 'dirt' or 'snow' around the image, check every image on a black background and most of all take your time, don't rush through cutting as rushing ends up with rubbish cuts, alot of the Charlton images have 'dirt' or 'snow' around the edges. also make sure you do THIS on every image

Just to add, you've made a great start to cutting, ironing out the finishing touches and you'll be a welcome cutter

BlindEskimo, original Vertus tutorial videos are HERE.Vertus is the best thing when removing simple background. If there is a complex one (woods, multicoloured) you might try Topaz ReMask plugin, and it's Tutorials

Aww man, I thought I got rid of them. I tried to leave all the finer hairs of some of the players to make it as realistic as possible, are you sure the snow isn't just stray hair? It was also a very sunny day, are you sure there isn't a glow around some because of that?

Lol if so, I'm going to have to completely revise my technique.

Also thanks for the tips/links bakizp, I'll check those out this afternoon.

It's a good start. But there's still snow around the images. Check against a black background as you work to avoid this:

I use a variety of different techniques to remove the borders, but the most efficient is to use the clone tool and make sure to lock the transparency of the image.

Also, the images are too big. 180x180 is what you should save them as, but these may only be work in progress. Always resize when you've finished touching up the cut, and then make sure again that no borders appear around the image.

Keep up the practicing!

What OLT said.

That's a very, very good start for a beginner however, and the relatively small amount of snow will be quite easy to remove.

Keep up the good work and hope to see more of your work soon.

P.S. When hosting images, try to use an image hosting site which retains the filename, which should always be the person's UID.

I don't know if you all know about this, but:
- Using a Clone Tool in Normal mode could produce unreal effect sometimes, because it's copying the exact sample u took with holding ALT key
Therefore:
- If you need just to darken the snow, the best choice is using the Darken mode with around 40-50% opacity, sampling the dominating color of hair
- If you have color spills (blue, purple, red) or anything that is significantly different than dominating color, the best choice is to use Color mode (with same percentage of opacity),then Darken to finish the job.

for bald players i just skip the quick selection and refine edge tool and go straight to unlocking the layer then use pen tool you will get a better image then do the rest as normal

I did everything like you too, except I copied and pasted the cut into new 180x180 file, maybe that's why it showed weird pixes around. I'll try it out and get back to you. Thank you for the step by step images!
