The Social Network is pretty much perfect in my mind, there's not a single superfluous scene, not a single empty shot, not a single unconvincing acting performance and not a single moment where the soundtrack does anything but add to the experience. Combine that with the topicality of the subject matter and you've got the film of the decade.
Love how this scene highlights the difference Facebook/social media has done to societal attitudes:

Social Network is a tremendous achievement. It's like a modern Citizen Kane. Or Network. Or something, I don't know. It's not really a modern anything, it's just its own, and that's probably what makes it brilliant.
Fincher is a modern day master. Very few filmmakers are on his level.

Wolf of Wall Street: how awesome is it that Scorsese -- a man 71 years old -- is still able to produce such a destructively manic, sinful ride like that? It moves like a rocket, and I love how it's basically a dagger into the heart of the American dream whilst shoving the greedy allure of it right in your face. God damn what a film.
And The Master. Rewatched it this week in light of the tragic news from last weekend and yeah, that film is so fascinating. That relationship between Freddie and Lancaster is so rich and layered, so primal and deeply human. I could probably watch it a million times more and still pick up on new themes and character moments. Phillip Seymour Hoffman was such an extraordinary actor and it's a such an enormous shame that he's gone.

Scorsese is a fucking master. Without a doubt one of the very best film directors in history.
Back on The Master, I remember when this fucking thing came out:
I would watch it like five times a day, just absolutely astonished and intrigued as to what kind of film we would get.
Phoenix' performance in that small teaser trailer (a scene that isn't even in the film) is enough for him to win the Oscar alone. Fuck Lincoln.

Very good, though just like with Life of Pi last year I definitely feel that I missed out on much of the experience by not seeing it at a cinema.
Same here. Local cinemas only have early showings of the dubbed version planned now though, so unless they offer a late-night showing with the English audio I'll skip it.

What an absolute load of piss. Not surprising, obviously, but still.
No beauty, no pain, no poetry, no emotions at all. Just a fucking dumb and grim thriller.
Elizabeth Olsen is pretty good though.

I did go and see Dallas Buyer's Club last week as well and thought it was very good. It didn't blow me away but I was impressed with everything about it, especially the acting. Props to Jared Leto for playing that role and Matthew McConaughey was superb as well.

Glad to hear that. I love the idea. Did you see the latest season of Black Mirror? From what I've heard it's a similar sort of premise to Her, although I'm sure it's done in a very different way.

I liked it, but perhaps not as much as I thought I would. I found it enjoyable to watch and thought all of the performances were good, but perhaps it didn't captivate me in a way I thought a Wes Anderson film would.

Thats the reason the stopped going ahead with the remake of it. They where planning it then Hunger Games come out. "Audiences would see it as just a copy of Games — most of them wouldn't know that ‘Battle Royale’ came first. It's unfair, but that's reality."
