My starting eleven usually comprised of:
GK - Radek Cerny (purchased for 14k from QPR but Paddy Kenny is just as good)
DR - Lee Peltier
DC - Paddy Kisnorbo
DC - Jason Pearce
DL - Aidy White
DM - Paul Green
CM - Rodolph Austin (much better in CM role than in DM or CB)
CM - Jason Koumas (Signed on a free transfer)
RW/IF - Ross McCormack or Davide Somma
LW/IF - El-Hadji Diouf
ST - Emile Mpenza (free transfer) or Becchio (as an advanced forward)
Sold Paul Rachubka for 100k to Wigan. and only spent 14k on Cerny.
This team won me the championship with 6 pts clear over Blackpool. Also beat Tottenham 3-2 in League cup but then got knocked out by Bristol lol.
I also use Monty Gimpel as my substitute Defender as developing and playing him early like bringing him on for last 20 mins of every game really speeds up his development and he ends up one of the best defenders in the game. I'm in my fourth season and hes immense. Valued at 14m.

As for training: during pre-season I use very high team cohesion and match training on tactics.
Once pre-season is done I switch the general training to tactics on normal and I leave the match training on tactics.
Once the tactic is fluid I then change general training to Defending on normal.

I've tried the tactic with a few teams now and a lot of them were top teams like Man City and Tottenham as well as Barca (who can win with any tactic so not really relevant) and Juventus and I've had great results with them all.
By far my most memorable seasons though were with Leeds United and one with Monaco who are an excellent team to manage due to the very high quality team in a league that is no match for em and also because the budget they have is amazing with their oil rich owner who just constantly pumps money into the club lol.

Just to let all users know that our Rapidshare account has been locked for an unknown reason. This means that many people will find that they are unable to get free mirrors for our files. We are currently trying to fix the problem however being late at night and a weekend it is hard to get anywhere with their support team so this may take until tomorrow or even Monday.
In the meantime I will be investigating what other options are available to get the files to you as quickly as possibly. But once again, being late at night here in the UK, I don't want to put a timeframe on it but I promise that i'm working as hard and quickly as possible to get it fixed and can only apologise for a problem that is beyond our control.
