This file is intended for version 14.3.0 of FM14, and will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are re-installed when patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 14 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 23 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. It also includes a small file to correct some incorrect national kit colours and ones whose kits were not displaying. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM14.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this file:
Step 1: Go to
PC
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the folder above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folder mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and open the folder named "editor data files".
Step 7: Copy everything from the folder in step 6 into the folder mentioned in step 5.
To check if the file is working, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly.

Read this post first.
If that does not answer your question, then please post a screenshot of your 1430>lnc folder...

Figured it out. As I had steam previously installed in a different location, I've placed the files there, and for this reason it did not work!
Thanks for the quick feedback.

Steam must have installed the game somewhere - try to find the location and then follow the paths indicated in the OP. I'm afraid I can't be much more helpful, but I use Windows not Apple Perhaps some other helpful user can assist?

Fix for this please

This is not skin-related in any way. Can I have screenshots of the folders you've placed the files in?
Replace the entry in the file with :

thanks

The editor data files folder should not be placed there. It's contents should go into Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2014 > editor data
I have no idea where you got the other files within the inc folder as they are not the ones in this download.
The folder should be named lnc (with the first letter as in licensing) and not inc (as in incest).
Moreover, for licensing reasons, there are no Japanese-based players in the official database. To have them you need to download an unofficial database and place it in the editor data folder within the user preferences folder in My Documents (which is where the media files mentioned above.

Here are some examples.
In the editor: Team - Charlton. Player - 7. Green. In the game: Green has no 13?
In the editor: Team - Doncaster. Player - 7. Mark Duffy. In the game: Duffy has no 21?
In the editor: Leicester 9. Jamie Vardy. In game: 27
In the editor: AZ 22. Berghuis. In game: 27
In the editor: Inter 11. Alvarez. In game: 15
I´ve been in contact with some guys at the Sigames community but the answear I got is:
"I'm afraid the development cycle for FM14 has now finished and this, given the priority of the issue, will not be fixed"

If you want to add the above changes in a new game, they should take you no more than 1-2 minutes maximum using the official editor.

If this is in the middle of a save game, the club names will not be changed, unfortunately.
They can be displayed in a save-game, however, by opening the City, Club and Stadium Names.lnc file with Notepad, scrolling to the French section, and removing the # from in front of all the entries. FYI, the # "instructs" the game to ignore that line and removing obviously lets the game read and apply the changes.
This method will however lose all the current club nicknames, so it's up to you if you want to apply it.

Thanks for your reply - it was done before I started a new game though. Portuguese clubs have also been renamed correctly - Benfica instead of SLB for example - so I found it strange that all the French clubs still had their very long names...
mons
The Portuguese names changes are effected using the lnc files rather than the dbc file in the editor data folder, which is why they appear and others don't. Either way, you can ensure the correct, short names display for the French clubs and all the others by using the process I explained in my last post

A lot of the media files are quite old and some of the changes made in the editor and database means there's inevitably some failed changes. It's something I'd like to take in hand and tackle with an eye on FM15 but I don't think I've got the time to do it. If you, or somebody else, is willing to take it on then go right ahead

I will have to do some more testing.
