Don't forget Barkley.

Would be where Rooney is but there's no way he isn't playing.

Never thought i'd hear myself say this, but this game needs more Welbeck.

Baines is one of the most overrated fullbacks England has ever had.

Aye, him and Jagielka perform better for Everton than England for sure. Who is going to replace him - Shaw, obviously, but what about when Shaw is unfit/injured? Also, I thought John Stones was a centre-back?

I rate Gibbs over Baines tbh. The latter can't really defend and has no pace whatsoever.

Rooney shouldn't be in the side imo. Welbeck and Sturridge up top with Sterling in behind would work a lot better than Rooney with Sturridge. Obviously Hodgson won't change anything especially with making Rooney captain.

Could argue that Rooney has been made captain of both club and country at a time when he could easily be dropped from both sides.

He is a CB, but he can play RB if required. He put some decent crosses in last night.

We looked much better when we switched to a 4-3-1-2 last night. I'd keep your front 3, have Henderson and Wilshere as the two outer CMs, and then have somebody who can just sit in the middle. Not sure who mind!

Was trying to think of somebody a bit younger, he'll be 35 at the Euros.

Barry's hardly one to rely on his pace though in fairness. But you're right

I love how we all call for all the older players to leave yet as soon as they do we want them back.

Well only Terry and Barry but still.

Sounds like Hodgson is feeling a bit of pressure.

I'm not that bothered about what he said about the two shots on target, plenty of other managers would roll out similar comments, but saying that the opponents in England's qualifying group will be the reason why Wembley will be half empty every game is poor. If England had a team that the country could get excited about, or that were at least good to watch, Wembley would be full every game - regardless of the opponents.

Also it was disappointing to read him say that for Monday's game "England may turn into Norway" (or something similar, they'd just been discussing Norway's defensive approach). How are we supposed to progress when the manager has got that attitude? Switzerland are decent enough, but let them worry about us.

Good to see a lot of articles in papers today about how the team should be built around Sterling, agree completely.

It bugs me that Rooney's captain not necessarily because of his character but rather because it pretty much guarantees his starting spot in the side for years to come. On recent form there's a case for him to be dropped. If he plays up front, he either plays ahead of Sturridge or forces him out wide, and if he plays deeper he does the same for Sterling. I think at the moment we should be looking to play Sturridge as the main striker with Sterling just behind him but with Rooney in the side that's never going to happen. He just slows the game up so much and does very little nowadays. Roy doesn't have the balls to drop him either.

I'd love to see a side like this going into Euro 2016;

Hart
Stones - Chambers - Cahill - Shaw
Henderson - Wilshere
Lallana - Sterling - Chamberlain
Sturridge

I forgot about Jones. I'd have him ahead of Chambers for now but I think by 2016 Chambers will be seriously knocking on the door of the first-team.

Not really, Sterling absolutely has to play behind the striker. I'd play Theo & Ox either side of him as well.

It's hard to say. The only way for that to work in the current system would be for Rooney to play up front with Sterling and Sturridge on either wing.

I'm surprised Caulker has been overlooked. I thought he had an excellent season last year and he's certainly ahead of Stones and Chambers as a central defender in my opinion. Maybe because he plays for QPR and not one of the top sides leads to being overlooked?

Front three of Welbeck, Sturridge and Sterling should be utilised more.

I don't think Caulker had a good season by any means last year. Cardiff were atrocious at the back for most of the campaign and he was obviously an integral part of that back line so can't really be excused. I think at this point Hodgson probably thinks the likes of Chambers and Stones have potentially higher ceilings than Caulker and he wants to integrate them as soon as possible.

What about Nathaniel Clyne for right back? I think he alternated with Chambers alot last year so didn't have a full season, but now should b 1st choice, he's got the attributes to do well if give a chance. Also Eric Dier could force his way into the Euros reckoning if he continues to get games at Spurs

Clyne should certainly be in at right back.
