Barnes knew Matic was coming and could have quite easily 'stabbed' at the ball with his foot rather than follow through knowing full well he would make contact with Matic. The one on Ivanovic wasn't a lot better either. Both are just crafty tricks anyone that's played football for a good length of time knows they can get away with and he did.

Bingo!

Even the way Barnes gets up and walks away after the challenge gives the impression he knows what he's done and could be in trouble. Had he been correctly booked earlier, the whole situation could have possibly been avoided, or seen him pick up a second booking. When there has been ex-officials and players coming out and saying Atkinson got it clearly wrong (along with the other 3 key decisions) it certainly highlights the incident more and how incredibly lucky Barnes was to get away without any reprimand whatsoever.

Yeah Di Maria has been muck. Our movement has been pretty poor up front and just leads to us passing it around outside their box for ages and ultimately getting nowhere. Falcao has been doing plenty of running but not really getting the service, though to be honest the couple of times he has actually got the ball he has usually just ran into the nearest defender anyway.

Theoretically we are but unless we contrive to lose every single game from now until May we won't. And even then I can't see certain teams down there making up the game between us and them right now.

It does sound like the kinda of game that makes you wonder if the new TV deal is an elaborate con pulled by the league to rack up the moolah.

Wouldn't like to pick who'll go down though, tough one to call. Leicester will go I think but that's the only one I'd be confident of putting money on.
