Tend to agree. We signed him at the beginning of last season, and got rid halfway through the season. Now, our shithole isn't necessarily the right place to inspire someone to get their head down but I think it would take a lot of work to get the best out of him and I don't see it happening the lower down the leagues he drops. Still, only 24 so could mature!
Can't believe we've made 3 signings already! Two of which were rather necessary in goal, Doyle from Birmingham and Letheren from Dundee. Happier with the latter, seems to have performed well when given the chance and should be good for League 1. Only other signing so far is Brad Potts (so close!) from Carlisle United, any fans here who can shed some light on the type of player he is? I'm guessing that's insider knowledge from MacDonald's time there!

Good player him. IF motivated. Played brilliant for Carlisle first half of last season but as soon as there was transfer talk involved his form dropped so I highly doubt whether he has the right attitude or not. Can play in the middle of the park but also at Left back or Left mid or as right back or right mid. Very agile and good on the ball but as said, his attitude and workrate are concerns.
Good striker. Liked him at P'boro. Don't quite know what happened to him since then but in an attacking system he'll get you goals

Great cryptic clue? Nah, apparently it was just someone's 3 year old who posted it by accident and we're not actually signing David Ball. Our club's a fucking tinpot joke sometimes.

He would've been a brilliant signing for the club, I just wish whoever's 3 year old it was is clairvoyant.

Good signing is Monkey. He'll be happier up north and he'll continue to be a consistent performer in the Conference. I'm a little disappointed to see him leave, but I await to see who will replace him.

We've also signed Jason Davidson, the Australian international left-back, on a free from West Brom. I'm actually really excited about this one, and it has the potential to be a class move. He was pretty good at the World Cup, and played for the best side in Asia when they won the Asian Cup, and he's only 23.
We've also been linked with David Ball, which somewhat undermines previous good transfer business. He's not good enough for the Championship, even as a backup striker behind Wells, Vaughan, Miller, and Bunn.

Lost Cairney and King already, Rhodes and Gestede will surely go, Marshall and Conway (the only other two players apart from the aforementioned who can chip in with goals and assists) are also being linked with moves away and will surely want to go - the players will know that we're only heading one way.
And, to top it all, we're in a transfer embargo and can't replace any of them! Apart from loans and frees.

Not much chance of getting O'Sullivan back then?
Looks like we've signed Alfie Mawson and Conor Wilkinson. Especially happy with the former.

Aren't you only under an embargo until you can show yourselves to be FFP compliant? In that case, doesn't it make sense for your board to ensure the sale of one asset on a ridiculous £45,000 a week wage to protect the rest of the squad? On his own, Rhodes sets you back (under FFP rules which mean the transfer fee is also taken into account over the duration of the original contract, which I think was 4 years) almost £4.5m a year. Doesn't it make sense to take that off the wage bill with a £12-15m transfer and ensure you can sign other players?
Or does that make way too much sense for your board to consider?
BR.
I wouldn't completely rule it out, Bowyer barely used him at the end of last season with nothing to play for and on the back of his impressive loan spell with you so I don't see much there to suggest that he'd be prepared to use him this season. For a youth/reserve coach he doesn't really like playing youngsters at all.
You're talking way too much sense there mate for our board haha! It's pretty frustrating, we just seem to have lied down and accepted it and it's being used as a convenient excuse. Once the season starts it'll be trotted out after every bad result.
Leeds have got out of it and QPR are challenging it aren't they, so it can be done. And Bolton avoided it despite having a ton of debt.

Fingers crossed. I'd love him to come back, but his twitter gives off the impression he's got a big season ahead of him.
You poor lot. He's got the ability, but he's bone idle. Nice to hear that Flicker is spouting the same old 'DNA' b*llocks. If players like Mellis and Clarke fit your DNA then I worry for you! He rejected a new deal with us, claiming he wouldn't play in League One..

Quite a few mixed emotions. On one hand, he had phenomenal potential. At 22 he was touted as a future captain, and at times last season he looked a real Rolls Royce player. On the other, it was only his first season in the division and he might not live up to his potential. If I had to put a strict value on his performances last season I'd say he was an £800k midfielder with £5m potential. To get £2m for him 12 months after signing him for £400k is good business whichever way you look at it, even if it leaves a gap in the squad. Best of luck to him at Wolves, I hope to see him in the Premier League shortly.
It also gives young Philip Billing a chance in the first team. He's a Danish U21 international from our academy, still only just 19, having made his debut for us at 17. It'd be too much to expect him to play the full season, but his emergence means that we only need to sign one midfielder rather than two to plug the gaps in the squad. We've also got Sondre Tronstad, a Norwegian U21 international, waiting in the wings. And Jake 'grandson of John' Charles, who's a Welsh U19 cap. It's a big season for the academy lads, not least because we have a few with great potential, and also because they'll be expected to plug the gaps in the squad. Some won't be up to it, but I have high hopes for those three in particular.

Quietly optimistic.

Noticed you've signed Graham Carey. We had him for 6 months 5 years ago. Beautiful left foot. Not quick. Crap full-back. Decent winger. A bit unlucky to be competing with Gary Roberts and Anthony Pilkington for a berth on the wing with us. Wish him well with you
In the mean time, we've signed Carlisle midfielder Kyle Dempsey. 19, just played his first season in professional football and won their player of the year. Got 11 goals and assisted another 10. Optimistic about this signing, he sounds like an ideal replacement for Coady. Time will, of course, be the ultimate judge. We're only a couple of players shy of having a very competitive squad. We need a centre-back for certain.
Vercoe
That's good to hear, I know sweet FA about most of our new players, so it's good to hear a review from someone who knows about one of them! I think he'll be a winger rather than a fullback anyway, so that's good!

Still no news of a new goalkeeper yet though, either we're taking a gamble on Lainton or we're looking at a larger pool of keepers available

The biggest bit of Football League transfer business this summer done and dusted. We can all go home now. It didn't exactly come as a shock, but it shows what this division is like when a side can spend £7m on a player of that quality. I'm looking forward to seeing him in action, provided we turn Boro over on the day in November!
For us, it looks like we've signed Jordi Hiwula from Manchester City. Where's our resident Walsall fan? I need to know about him! (Such as how to pronounce his name.)

Don't really count as a Saddler but Hiwula is a good player though. Not sure whether he is Championship material yet but looked very lively from what I've seen and heard of him. Played as a striker first I think, started off well but his form dipped and lost his place but was put on the wing then and showed some really good performances iirc.
You can listen to how he is pronounced here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htgTU5Amue8
