We had a couple of bad results last season -we had more than a couple actually - if anything it seemed to pull the team closer together, like the siege mentality Ferguson used to foster.
Of course he's upset players in the past, he's not supposed to be their friend. Part of 'man-management', or more accurately leadership, is making tough decisions. There's not a successful person in the world who hasn't upset someone in the past.
That doesn't mean he got everything right, I suspect in hindsight he would have handled Rivaldo differently if he could (although even then Rivaldo's antics were bordering on the primadona) but the acrimonious bust ups are few and far between in a managerial career of over 20 years. You're acting like he can't go two weeks without insulting someone's gran and kicking a dog.
Shola
Good to see van Gaal turn into Pardew.
"He can't go two weeks without insulting someone" - He is Dutch tbf. They can't keep their mouths shut.
Based Jorge
He is a funny fucker I'll give you that, the Dutch are too blunt. I know the above statement is true but he's not one to protect his own players is he.
Ninja
Wonder if he has anyone in mind, I think he's right that we lack that star quality up front, but I can't think of anyone who is available.
Based Jorge
Darmian - Jones - Rojo/Otamendi - Shaw/Rojo
Schneiderlin - Schweinsteiger
Pedro - Mata - Depay
Rooney
Is how I'd line up if I were United boss.
Debuchy - Mertesacker - Koscielny - Monreal
Coquelin - Cazorla
Ramsey - Özil - Alexis
Giroud
Can see Ramsey moving more centrally towards the tail end of the season as I think this is Cazorla's last season in England. I can't see us challenging continuously with someone as average as Giroud up front and I think we're going to place all our eggs in the Benzema basket. Arteta as back-up if Coquelin gets injured is also a massive worry.
Ivanovic - Terry - Cahill - Azpilicueta
Matic - Cesc
Willian - Oscar - Hazard
Costa
If I was Mourinho I'd bin Oscar, put Hazard centrally and punt on Pedro. But it's still as solid as you'd expect.
Zabaleta - Kompany - Mangala? - Clichy
Yaya - Fernandinho/Fernando
Sterling - KDB? - Silva
Agüero
If they get that front four then the attack is probably the best in the League imo. The Fernand's aren't exactly solid, Kompany hasn't been good for years and Mangala is a bit of a liability. Clichy isn't even worth mentioning.
Top 4 will probably end up as the same as last year in the same order or I can see us nicking second. But I still think Chelsea have the minerals to do it back-to-back.

Which is why I hope we actually try and win the Europa League for once. With our squad we wont be getting anywhere near top 4 again for many years to come.
Interesting that you've got no Wilshere or Walcott in that Arsenal team.
Based Jorge
I think it's a testament to our quality in depth. I'd like to see Walcott start up front over Giroud but it's not happening. Wilshere's best games have come on the wing so I'd assume he'd start out there if at all. Having the likes of Bellerin, Chambers, Gabriel, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere, Welbeck & Rosicky all available as depth is pretty good for us. With Ox & Wilshere being the main two.
Flash.
Di Maria played in his 'proper' position for the majority of the season. Not being able to take a competent corner or pass the ball 10 yards is irrelevant to where he played.
I don't think you can understate how fucking dreadful he was for the last 6 months of the season. At least when Falcao was struggling you could still see he was working his ass off, and it was hurting him that he wasn't performing. Di Maria didn't seem to care.
Look at Mata, he didn't play in his 'proper' position for most of the season, but ended up finishing it being one of Utd's best performers due to him having a good attitude and working hard. Same for Young, Rooney etc.
Sam
L'Equipe say Di Maria to PSG isn't done due to Di Maria wanting more money than they're willing to offer. Seems like the burglars didn't scare him enough to take a slight cut on wages.

I would say that Liverpool should look out for the much better penalty box killer. Names such as Huntelaar, Higuain or Austin could possibly fit the bill. Despite the fact its difficult to convince the former two player to join Liverpool for the time being, its worth an effort to try to pursuit them. I mean, with the likes of Coutinho, Firminho, Lallana behind the striker, we just need someone to finish the move. Why bother to have good link of play if you can't finish the move?
Based Jorge
Grimnir
It's not like he'll play except in the odd League Cup game!
Sam
Hyperbole much.
Ninja
Yeah, you can't complain on a free but he's never impressed me.
I hope Van Gaal's comments about him and De Gea are little more than bigging up a new signing because if he is intended as a De Gea replacement I'm worried.
Based Jorge
Sam
Still hoping we get Lloris to replace him when he eventually goes.
Sam
If that is true, PSG can fuck themselves tbh.
.verse
Levy will absolutely milk you lot for all that he can.
Also looks like Ramos has played United well and will be rewarded with a new contact, surprise surprise.
Sam
Haha, he definitely will.
Jonas
BR.
He only had one year left on his contract as well. Unbelievable.
bmg033
I think Man City paid less than that for Kompany

Grimnir
Yeah for next season, when they are in the Championship.
Ninja
Not bad business in all honesty, imagine we'll make a saving on wages as well.
Hopefully one big name to come up top as well.
Sam
But yeah, glad we got a good fee for him.
Based Jorge

Yeah I reckon he'll do alright. Frightening in the air. Scored v Swansea and Stoke (two top half teams) in the FA Cup last season and put in a good shift at Anfield against Liverpool.
More suited to the PL than Rhodes.
