I'd heard about that on the BBC, fuck me what a ridiculous nothing story.
Sam
He's a bit boring these days.
Dan
But he does have a point...
bmg033
Not really. Pretty much every team that wins the league has 'bought' the title nowadays.
SpinSwimScream
I agree too, I feel his pain. Its such a shame he's only been able to spend over £200m himself since he came back to Chelsea. I dunno how they make do with signings like Fabregas, Costa, Matic and Cuadrado. Come to think of it it's amazing how much success Chelsea have had over the last 10 years considering how little they have spent.
In all seriousness though, meh, it's the new normal. I agree with Sam though, it's getting boring. Most other managers/people just ignore him now. Since Fergie retired it's only ever really interesting when he goes after Arsenal as him and Wenger genuinely seem to hate each other.

Jason
He did the exact same in 2004/2005.
Poe
He still riles Man Utd fans up by saying it, as everyone calls him boring.
He's far from boring.

Sam
But it's when he goes into his moaning old man routine he gets annoying. Yesterday he moved onto having a go at pre season and taking digs at Wenger and Pellegrini. He used to be entertaining at this sort of thing.

It's just that we had severe constraints on our spending from 2006-2013, something Mourinho has never had to worry about. All of our funds are self-generated too, unlike Mourinho when he made Chelsea title contenders/winners. We're now in a position where we can spend around 60-70m a year without any detriment to the club or the clubs future. We have around 200m in cash reserves and we'd have to spend something ridiculous like 300m in one season to break FFP.
Flash.
They've made about 30m in sales this summer already and last summer was about 80m.
He's just doing it to get a reaction though, which is working.
Ninja
Yeah, but to be fair the difference between the two clubs net spend is like £6m. It's hardly worth slagging the club off over.
Also I find net spend a bit over simplistic; Chelsea paid roughly £30m more in wages than Arsenal did the season before last its a weird thing to discount when you're talking about their financial weight.
Based Jorge
As a result, we signed fucking Gervinho instead. We still probably can't really afford to pay the wages Hazard is currently on either (I'm guessing he's on around 200k p/w now).
Shola
Arsenal didn't have to do this. I'm amazed that the Arsenal board got away with it.

Or finance the Stadium in the way they did.

Mourinho had spending constraints the summer we signed Sidwell, Ben Haim and Pizarro. Which was like 07/08. Pretty sure the only money he spent that season was for Malouda and Belletti. Which was literally all off-set by the sale of Robben and Glen Johnson. Then we got Anelka and Ivanovic in the Jan window, which would have been when Grant was in charge.
While he's pretty much operated within a budget since returning, funded largely by the sales of first team players like Mata, Luiz, KdB, etc. We've taken FFP seriously and maintained the aim of becoming more self sufficient as originally intended. Which has taken longer because of the considerable revenue we miss out on with Stamford Bridge being the size it is.
Based Jorge
We had to move it was just a matter of when. If we wanted to progress to the next level in terms of stature there's no chance we could've stayed at Highbury.
We got no help from the government and the stadium cost was £430m. We got £100m from Emirates (15 year deal from 2004) and was only getting around £13m a year from Nike since 2004 on a 10 year deal. We also had to regenerate the surrounding areas too. The only way we could fund that was by spending as little net profit as possible each window whilst simultaneously achieving CL football each season.
Thanks to Wenger miraculously keeping us in there with shite like Denilson & Djourou being played over the years, our debt is a lot more manageable now and we can afford to spend 60m each season with our new commercial deals like the Puma one which gets us 30m per season. I'm guessing once the Emirates deal ends we'll also be able to get a large amount from our next shirt sponsor. So things can really accelerate in the next few years to help us progress to where we want to be, which is a Bayern Munich-esque model.

Didn't help that Cesc fucked off to the Spanish GP & went on strike forcing a move though meaning we got a lot less than we wanted for him. I think it was all to accelerate the minimising of debt. We've got some really big commercial opportunities coming up though so it'd be worth it in the end.
We've had it quite hard in comparison to the likes of West Ham paying essentially fuck all for a stadium they won't be able to fill.

I meant defensively.
We need another centre back and quickly, Taylor and Williamson are absolute horror shows.
De Jong and Wijnaldum looked good today mind, another complete no show from Sissoko, though.
Shola
If Mbemba is half as good as promised. The defence will have improved dramatically.
Poe
Coloccini is 33 and well on the decline.
Taylor and Williamson aren't good enough.
We also had Lascelles last season, and yeah they did - but they still haven't been replaced yet.
