How much was di Maria bought for in the first place?

£59m.

I think Man City paid less than that for Kompany

Kompany was a risky signing at the time though. He had an injury history and had never really found his form at Hamburg.

Ameobi last season and Wickham this year.

Pardew still got that eye for a player I see.

I actually quite like Conner Wickham, playing for Sunderland hasn't done him any favours.

In other news, both Walcott and Cazorla have signed new deals \o/

Wickham is terrible.

Not a targetman as he's crap in the air and weak as piss, and can't do anything else either.

Wickham is good. Needs to apply himself though. Could go either way.

Looking forward to seeing Pards and Wickham in Sugar Hut though.

Yeah.

Depends on how we structured our deal with Madrid though, we won't have paid it up front and he won't have activated any performance related clauses (except top 4 perhaps) so we might escape relatively unscathed.

He wasn't actually that bad though.

Got 10 assists and 3 goals or something didn't he?

Nah his numbers weren't. Think he got a few more assists than that even.

But we didn't win anything last season, so its hard to think that any team related clauses would have been activated, he didn't score many goals, and he didn't play many minutes. Even if we didn't put any sort of those clauses all of these deals are structured payments over a course of years in Euros, so the relative strength of the pound now means we will shell out less than we would have.

We'll end up 'only' losing €10m on the two deals in the worst case scenario. Probably a lot less than that.

PL website says Di Maria got 3 goals and 10 assists. Thought he'd get more goals than that to be honest.

Oh I'm not suggesting he played well but I knew his numbers were decent.

His numbers were decent, but he got almost all of them in his first 2-3 months, then did nothing after that.

So Sky Sports have resorted to using football manager stats.

Roma and Man City have agreed a fee for Dzeko. £14m apparently. I suppose that means Man City will go for another striker with Jovetic also leaving.

Bony offers something different what City don't have. He'll be good for City.

I reckon Benzema will be in the Prem soon.

Yeah I like Bony, think hes a really good player. Was disappointed to see him go City (purely as a United fan)

I think City need a new striker with Jovetic and Dzeko leaving. Not sure who though, although Sterling through the middle didn't work at Liverpool so fuck knows why that might be an option.

Elsewhere, Palace close to signing Bakary Sako, who could be good as he's a player with Prem qualities. Meanwhile, Leroy Fer has failed a medical at Sunderland. Impressive. Although given his luck in England so far, it means the Mackems have a better chance of staying up already.

To be fair on talent alone I think Dzeko is better than Bony.

That was never really the problem with Dzeko though.

Di Maria all confirmed.

Disappointing how it worked out and that he wasn't up for it, especially after all his comments at the beginning of the summer about wanting to improve in his second season at the club etc. Going to go down as one of the biggest flops.

The fact he was a British record fee is going to keep him high up on the list of flops. He had a good start but he was too inconsistent.

Shame he's acted like a dick with his move to PSG, but oh well. Losing £10-15M on him isn't a disaster.

The plan at the moment seems (it's too soon to say for certain, obviously) to be to play 4-3-3 with Aguero, Bony and Kelechi Iheanacho as the strikers and Sterling as the back-up. A more senior striker would strengthen us but I think it's a position worth ignoring, especially if it means we are actually going to give a young player a chance in competitive matches.

To be fair on talent alone I think Dzeko is better than Bony.

That was never really the problem with Dzeko though.

To be honest, my comment wasn't really about talent, I was surprised somebody thought Dzeko and Jovetic were a good fit for City. Dzeko has had four years to prove himself and hasn't done so fully, and Jovetic has never looked remotely like he fitted in. Bony ain't all that but he seems like a better fit than either of those two.

Jovetic looked decent in patches and Dzeko, other than last season always seemed to get a half decent goal tally. With Aguero as the main one, he was a decent option

Dzeko was so inconsistent but he scored some pretty big goals for City. Think he'll do well in Italy
